  • On the face of it, the Land Rover Discovery has it all. A luxurious interior, go-anywhere capabilities and the option of carrying seven people. Does this latest refresh with its upgraded infotainment system retain its position atop the 7 seat SUV pecking order? Watch our Land Rover Discovery review to find out.

Good review. Wife has had a Discovery 5 HSE since 2017 and we love it...also have had no major issues with it. In Feb'22 traded it in for 2023.5 Discovery 5 S D300 (arriving 26 May'23) and agreed to just A$10,000 short of original purchase price...great result after 5 years.
Being in Australia and needing to drive huge distances, my 'must have' was a full size spare wheel. Checked out all other manufactures models and not one filled this requirement...so another D5 was a no brainer.
Must be worth a mention in your review.
Yes, did drive a new Defender, but already have a 2012 Defender 90 fully kitted out for real offroading which has taken us 168,000kms on rugged trails throughout Oz. Now at 74, can sit back in comfort and enjoy a different style of touring.
    Cheers
    Mike Butler, Townsville, North Queensland

Thank you for your comment. People generally think this is a money pit of which it’s not. They went out and bought a 2nd hand bad example and it cost them. Mine was 2nd Hand ex UK driving in Zimbabwe and it’s surged us beyond brilliantly

I’ve Discovery 5 since 2017. It is a genuine British car: super confortable, very good details, tought enough to climb snowy Alps, fantastic traction like defender ,extra space for everything , 7 seats for large family, genuine understatement compared with the too luxurious Range, good old English cars defects and imperfections (not an soulless german vehicle), air suspensions, supercharged 340 hp powertrain

I'm 29,000km in to my new Discovery HSE and it's been almost perfect so far. Also, not all configurations have electric seats at the rear, mine have a tether system which is a lot more efficient.

Discovery Sport is available with 7 seats. Similar off road abilities and have only had trivial problems over 6 years use.

The problem with the Discovery is that most people have cottoned on to the fact that American and Japanese double cab pickups (with a truckman canopy fitted) do pretty much everything the disco does, but for half the price and half the road tax.. and for those that do want/need the LR badge, the new Defender is a better option, essentially filling the gap left in the market when the disco 4 was discontinued.

If only someone could design a full size 7 seat SUV with sufficient leg space and decent boot space rather than having to resort to a "van". If only Lexus could bring back their RX-L with a bit more leg room as the boot space in that with all 7 seats was much more than the discovery. These cars are available around the world but for some reason UK can't do it

You must get rid before the warranty finishes because it will cost you a house to keep fixing it not worth it not worth it at all I know I work there the engines are terrible the BMW engines are probably the worst engines on the market at the moment.
SO GET RID OF IT SOON AS WARRANTIES COMING TO AN END THAT'S MY BIT OF ADVICE 👍🏻

Stay clear @ all costs most unreliable car I’ve ever had to waist money on my hard earned money 💰…the whole process of owning this absolute bag of shite was a nightmare from start to finish happiest day I had was when I handed my 11 month old disco over and part exchanged it for a Cayenne…should have just bought the Porsche in the 1st place would have saved my self a lot of grief pain and heartache…if you like spending your days sitting in the dealers workshop having a car that rarely works properly and is total white elephant the disco is the car for you good luck but not for me never again rather have bleach injected into my eyes
