  • Windows and doors make up a very important part in the design of any house. They also have a very large effect on the thermal performance of a home. In this video we talk to the team at Windowmakers Ltd about how aluminium joinery is made, and find out more about the options on the market. We also get to watch some of the construction of the windows that will be going into our Tiny House.
    In our next video, we will be showing how these are installed.
    For more information about this joinery, check out Windowmakers at windowmakers.co.nz

    Nothing finer than seeing a well designed efficient factory! I would be hard pressed to find any more efficient manner to perform those tasks. Maybe locating the barcode/parts in barcoded binds to better locate and speed assembly. Yeah, I'm sure they are doing that as well. Awesome video! How It's Made - Tiny House ;-)

    Window building has gone super high tech. They certainly are beautiful. Unfortunately they are not repairable. It will be interesting to see how these windows hold up to road use. My guess is most Tiny Homes won't actually see much road use, so no problem.

  • @jedics1
    @jedics1 9 лет назад +1

    In your videos, will you be covering where you are going to put it and how you came to be able to put it there? I am deciding between a tiny house and a truck atm as I dont have anywhere I can put a tiny legally but a truck can park most anywhere although hugely more expensive to buy/run.

    • @livingbig
      @livingbig  9 лет назад

      Jayme Capurso Hey Jayme. Yup, we will be talking about all of the various options for Tiny House parking spots. I think that both are great ideas when it comes to a living arrangement. The major benefit that I can see with a tiny house over a house truck is that you can drive your car without the house being attached to it! If you're planning on moving it often (and if you are worried about where to park) I would certainly advise to look at constructing a smaller home, that is easier to transport and also will take up less space. So yeah, in the end you just need to decide what will suit your lifestyle better and go for whatever makes you feel the most excited! :)

    • @livingbig
      @livingbig  9 лет назад +1

      Jayme Capurso You can also check out this video that we filmed with Brett about how he found land for his Tiny House. ruclips.net/video/nRYOhnErkls/видео.html

    • @jedics1
      @jedics1 9 лет назад

      Well I don't think its an issue of excitement, more can I find somewhere to live, if not can I afford to buy/build on /run a truck. Obviously a th is by far the cheapest option but without land what will I do with it.
      Yes watched Brett's video, I guess it comes down to if I want to risk being at the mercy of others generosity :-)

    • @F1nddatruth
      @F1nddatruth 9 лет назад +1

      Jayme Capurso
      A big part if it is where are you? Every place has different rules. Most places here in the U.S. will not allow people to live in a TH like this one. Well, not in most cities anyways unless you are behind something like a 6ft privacy fence and in some areas even then you are not allowed to live in it. I'm looking to build my own TH and sell the house I'm in now to move to Austin TX but, from what I've been able to find out the only way I can live this way in the Austin area is to rent a spot in an RV park or buy property in the county where no one will really know what I'm doing, or of course do what Brett did. In my case, at least at first, the RV park seems the way to go. RV space fees vary a lot as well as what you get with it. For instance around Austin a space runs $350-$500 per months but some, even at the lower end, include water, elec, sewer, trash and wifi. A few even have the option to get cable and phone service at your expense when you pay by the month. So there are options but to live this way with current rules we have to make some sacrifices.

    I'm from Sydney and doing all the research I can here to build our own tiny. It's so heavily regulated here. Is there going to be a second part for the roof? I'm interested to see how you do the guttering? :)

      I think they said the guttering is added after the walls :-)

    • @livingbig
      @livingbig  9 лет назад +1

      Leahna Janssen Hey! Yup, we will be doing a part 2 of the roofing, but that will come later after the weatherboards. We will be showing the instillation of our gutter, and rainwater collection system, as well as all the plumbing etc. Pretty much if it's going onto the house, we will be filming it and showing you guys how we've done it!

      There might be institutions in your city which specifically teach how to make this stuff so you need to search.
      Be prepared that the best and only way to learn this skill is to work in a factory where you learn the real stuff.

    The factory didn't even put in a locking hardware into the 45degree angle, not professional enough there, I guess this is ok for a small shop. Hopefully these windows don't cost you more than 2~300NZD per sqm.. or it's going to be a rip off.
    Also double glazed windows should be sealed with argon gas.. the guy was saying that it's vacuum inside..very weird.
    Look at Shuco's video and you will find the best quality. Unfortunately nearest shuco window is in AU, not in NZ.

      WizzleThump I completely understand your thinking, and I too really like seeing all the recycled tiny homes out there. It certainly is the most common way of doing it. I agree about the recycling, but at the same time I like how this is a "Tiny" modern house with all the bells and whistles. I like that it is so different from most of the more traditional Tiny houses you usually see. This is more a Tiny Dwell or Habitus house.
