Thank you. When i saw the dates for the life of Ptolemy, i wondered if there might be a mistake. The. I learned that tradition says that St. Symeon was 360 years old when he reposed. Amazing. Truly amazing. I wonder if St. Symeon had been aware of the news about what had happened jn Bethlehem 40 days earlier. Surely that news had reached the ears of some in Jerusalem. Although, of course, the Holy Spirit could have informed him of this news had the Holy Spirit, or an angel, have told him. Righteous Elder, indeed! Also, only this morning, i was thinking about St. Luke as he had listened to Mary, the Theotokos, as she told him of events about which only she knew. [Although the Lord and the Holy Spirit and angels could have told him, but what i am thinking of, i believe, probably came from the Theotokos. ] We marvel at what we read in St. Luke's gospel. Even if these words are 'familiar' to us. But how are we in any way able to relate to what it must have been like for St. Luke to hear these stories from the mouth of the Theotokos? Glory to God!
You are mistaking the 8th day which the Lord Jesus was circumcised and the 40th day which was the purification of a woman after childbirth, according to the Law of Moses, (in this case Mary) which required a pair of doves or two young pigeons from the poorer people or a lamb from the rich as the Purification offering. Also see Exodus 13:2; Leviticus 12:1-8; Numbers 18:15-16.
@@HolyOrthodoxy luke 2,21 : « And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the child, his name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before he was conceived in the womb. And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought him to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord; As it is written in the law of the Lord, Every male that openeth the womb shall be called holy to the Lord; And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtledoves, or two young pigeons. Luke 2,29: « Lord, now lettest thou thy servant depart in peace, according to thy word:For mine eyes have seen thy salvation, Which thou hast prepared before the face of all people; …. » There is no mistake.
@user-cb9wj6bv3r; Yes, if you notice that Luke 2:21 is on the 8th day the Lord was circumcised and verses 22-40, where they came to the temple of her (Mary Holy Mother of God) purification to present Him on the 40th day. These are two different events.
