I love when experienced craftsman give beginner level advice, lowering the bar for entry is always a great thing. Up until recently I had access to every tool I could possibly need, but now I find myself needing to get my own and it's definitely a challenge figuring out what to prioritize, so this is very helpful. Personally I'm taking things a step further on the cost saving and getting everything used. Sure it'd be great to have a set of brand new matching battery operated power tools, but corded tools work just fine in the shop and I can find damn near anything (except for a tablesaw) under $25 at local thrift shops, even a sturdy enough table to work on can be had for $10. I learned as a photographer that it's not the camera that gets the photo, never think you're too good to use the tools you can afford.
And sure I'll upgrade down the road when I can afford the tools I'd rather have, but often half the fun of a project is figuring out how you can get it done with just what you already have.
