Thank you for this review! I plan on picking this vest up soon. I appreciate that your reviews are based on experience, not just comparing specs. Like in your comparison video you point out that the Adv Skin 12 has that foolish pouch that's very annoying to use, and that's something that no other reviews that I've seen have mentioned. Thanks again
Yeah you're right Steve that is a brilliant solution! Not one I use too often but it works great. I had to mention it as it is something that requires a solution. There are a few options to solve the problem but it's worth noting that the problem is there so people know before they buy.
I feel like an idiot but idk how the bladder goes in. Between the pack and your back or within the backpack compartment..? How do you situate the hose. Can’t find any videos or info on it.
Thank you, glad it was helpful! There is no standard way to add poles to the active skin 8! However, you can attach them if you rig up your own elastic cord. If you want to attach poles the advance 12 is a good alternative as this has options for storing poles as standard.
Yeah it’s always mandatory kit! I think some races specify you have one that is separate from the one on the pack but hopefully you can get away with it
Hi there You said you’re a size small and bought a small vest… but what size chest are you? I am a 38” chest which is kind of in the middle and I don’t know whether to get the small or medium (I would rather have a slightly tight small vest than a medium which would be more baggy and loose on my torso)
I'm the size as you. I find the small is just a little too small. If you get the medium its not going to be as baggy as you think and you can pull it tighter with all the draw strings.
You will be able to get the controller and drone in there! Might be a bit tight with the go pro selfie stick as well! Maybe consider the advanced 12 as it has pull strings for poles and you could attach the selfie stick there for quick and easy access!
Not as standard with the pack however with some cord you can rig up a way to hold the poles. If you're looking for something that holds the poles as standard then the advance 12 skin is a great option. ruclips.net/video/2gPOT2u6BXY/видео.html
The sizing is pretty generous when the pack is empty however, once you start to fill it it can get a bit snug! I recommend sizing up as you can use the drawstrings to compress it down so it doesn’t swing about.
Regarding carrying the hydration reservoir in this pack is there room in the active 8 vest to use the sleeve that comes with the Adv skin vest? i have one i can use if so and it may help with the warming up of the water!
thanks for the great video. comparing to ie. CamelBak Ultra Pro Vest, the bottle flasks sit much higher in Salomon comparing to CamelBak, do you have any preference in regards to this.
Hey buddy I’m a bit torn between sizes, you said Small fits you well may i ask your height & weight ? So i can better guess my size, thanks for the review!
Hi mate, glad the video helped! Yeah I’m 5' 8" (9" on a good day) and weigh 75.8kg (11.9 stone) and my chest measurement is 39 inches! The small is great for me when only putting a couple things in it however, if I use the reservoir or bottles and then put a jacket and leggings in the pack plus food it does start to get quite tight! I really struggled on my last race to get all the mandatory kit in! The race did have a lot of kit mind! Hope this helps!
@@BobThomasUltra Thanks for posting your sizes, I was going to go for a small but I am 169cm 58.5KG with a 36" chest so it looks like an XS would be more suitable.
@@pikerstutt so I’ve come to a new conclusion with sizing which I prefer currently. I now go a size up for my vest as the vest itself has loads of drawstrings which help you compress the vest down for fit. Now if you’re going to be filling the vest with loads of stuff the extra room of a size up is considerably more comfortable when the vest is full. Also if the vest is empty, maybe you just need to take keys and phone you can utilise the drawstrings to tighten the vest around you! I find this way you have a more versatile vest. I wouldn’t go extremely oversize but I would definitely consider a size up and maybe 2 if you’re on the larger side of the size that “fits”. I hope this helps.
Extra skin layer = SUPER HOT!!! Running makes you hot, don't you know? My simple backpack is over 20 litres and DOES NOT CAUSE OVERHEATING WHILE RUNNING.
Good point. My "Evoc CC 3L Race" backpack is pretty slim/narrow, and so it gives really good ventilation. 3 liter sound like almost nothing, but for me, this is the perfect size for dayhikes where i dont plan to bring a cook set. It fits my 2 liter hydration bladder, BeFree waterfilter (without water), a couple of sandwiches, some snacks, my GPS, flashlight, map and compass, thin running jacket that packs down into a tiny size, and first aid kit 👍
I don’t have to google translate to understand this haha! Yeah it was a mistake, I’ve worked hard to improve the lighting in my new videos I hope these are better!
I just received mine. naively ordered thinking I could mount poles or compatible with their pole quiver but sadly mistaken. Is there a way around this? I know you don't show poles here.
Black background, black T-shirt, black product…missing a lot of the details. Review is v good.
Thank you for the feedback Esteban!
Nice review. However, consider adding more light next time so we can see the product better.
Thank you for the feedback, I appreciate it. I will sort the lighting in my next one 🙌

For the moisture situation ya can put your stuff in a Ziploc bag and jam it in there I do that all the time

Really helpful review. Have just picked one up and can't wait to get it out on the trails!
Glad it was useful! That’s awesome, hope you love it!
Ciao, si riesce a mettere una faretra su questo zaino? Grazie

Just bought one and found your review after. Thanks for review .
Cheers, Ian! Glad you liked the review. Hope you enjoy the pack 🤙
hey nice and very objective review! I wonder can you attach track pole on active skin 8? Cause I see no elastic cord around. Thanks!

@@BobThomasUltra ah okay, thanks sir. Keep up the good work. Cheers!
I actually bought this becasue it came with a mini whistle and its mandatory item on some ultras. Not really bothered if someone can hear 😅

Great review! Just ordered one
Thank you! Hope you love the pack!

I'm the size as you. I find the small is just a little too small. If you get the medium its not going to be as baggy as you think and you can pull it tighter with all the draw strings.
Is there a way to attach poles on active skin 8?
Not as standard on the active 8. The Advance 12 has the ability to carry poles
@@BobThomasUltra ok noted and thanks
Do you know if I’d be able to get the Dji mini 3 and controller in there. Ideally in the flymore bag? Plus a go pro with selfie?
You will be able to get the controller and drone in there! Might be a bit tight with the go pro selfie stick as well! Maybe consider the advanced 12 as it has pull strings for poles and you could attach the selfie stick there for quick and easy access!
Great review, thanks mate!
Thanks Ben! Glad it was helpful 🙌
what the difference between active and adv 8 L? thanks for the nice video
I've got a video here about the active and advanced: ruclips.net/video/DqcN4A3fJqk/видео.html
Hopefully it will answer all you questions :)
Cheers!
Big fan of the salomon gear. Nice review!
Thanks!
Hello, can i atatch the running holes on the backpack? Thx for answer.

Hows the sizing?

I just got the 4 in red.
Regarding carrying the hydration reservoir in this pack is there room in the active 8 vest to use the sleeve that comes with the Adv skin vest? i have one i can use if so and it may help with the warming up of the water!
Yeah, I think there is enough room. You may just have to fiddle about with the valve as it comes out in a different direction.
thanks for the great video. comparing to ie. CamelBak Ultra Pro Vest, the bottle flasks sit much higher in Salomon comparing to CamelBak, do you have any preference in regards to this.
I often choose not to use the bottles as they do sit quite high and can becoming annoying when they're almost empty as they flap about a bit.
Hi Bob. How much do you get paid per view??
I don’t know per view. I earn a small amount of money through ads but it’s not something I really worry about at the moment
