  • Warring tribes made travel for the trade caravans unsafe. This wrecked their economy. They had to wait for the 4 sacred months when fighting was not allowed. These month were:
    Dhul Hijjah
    Dhu al-Qadah
    Muharram
    Rajab
Arabia never had good soil for planting, and the profit from Hajj was only one season of the year. So their economy was built on fighting other tribes to take their goods. In their time of ignorance (time of ignorance= jahiliyyah) they mostly lived in poverty.
Allah swt chose the Arabs to be the first Muslims due to some of their qualities. These good qualities were mixed with some bad qualities, but Islam came and purified their practices. The Prophet(saw) came to delete the bad cultural habits and encouraged them to keep the good qualities.
    1. Generosity. Example: the guests became "owners of the house". They were extremely generous to the guests, even when they arrived unannounced.

    2. They fulfilled their promises.
    3. They loved dignity.
    4. They were consistent. When they said they would do something they would do it.
    5. They were patient. (This could conflict with pride). As long as you didn't insult them they were very patient.
    6. They were innocent people. They couldn't lie or be two faced, in Mecca. (In Medina there was a more diverse population due to trade, and the hypocrites that lived there.)
