    I've only ever won on Deity four times (with Egypt, Portugal, Venice, and Spain, in that order), and every time, it was a diplomatic victory. Maybe it's just my gameplay style, but I do genuinely think it's easier than a science victory - having a bunch of city-state allies will protect you if the AI declares war on you, because the AI will go to war with your city-state allies and have fewer units to send your way. (Sometimes they won't send units to you at all - I had one game on an island map where the AI just kept sending their units to the city-state allies that stood between us, and couldn't get past them to my territory!) You don't even need to pay attention to quests so long as you're generating enough gold to keep buying the city-states. Just my two cents!

      I should add, too, that my first deity victory was diplomatic on a duel map as Egypt against Venice - it's definitely not impossible to win diplomatic against Venice!

    Its a pretty sad state of game design where the easiest way I've found for culture victories is to invade and capture the civ who is pumping out the most tourism and then piggyback off their attempted tourism victory. I just want to spam art and be a pacifist dammit.

    • @PCJLaw
      @PCJLaw  3 года назад +26

      Yeah that kinda sucks, and definitely is quite dumb, but a totally viable solution if you see an AI stacking the wonders for yourself. Most of your Tourism kicks off late game so it is something you could conquer for!

      Sadly too many Tourism attempts invole forcing your blue jeans on your opponents...

    First of all: thanks PC for bringing us new Civ5 content!
    Then on to a few comments about culture victory (CV) on Deity. The first thing to look for is a reasonable start. You don´t need five tiles of Salt in the capital to make CV a possibility. However, a strong capital is to be preferred and makes the whole game easier. This means that long river systems and a good mix of growth and production will set you up for a nice peaceful culture game. For your first wins I would also strongly recommend going Tradition. It would also be ideal if you have land for three reasonable expands ("normal" 4 city Tradition play). After that comes:
    - secure a religion with one or several faith buildings (for this you usually need a faith generating pantheon and you might need one or two policies in Piety as well)
    - get some of the midgame wonders (GlobeT, Sistine, Uffizi and/or Louvre) and fill them with Great People (remember to check the theming bonuses)
    - beeline for Archeology and dig up as many Antiquity Sites as you can fit into your cities (Museums etc)
    - beeline for Telecommunications and Internet (and Radar)
    - if you need more culture to win, buy some Musicians for faith and get them into the borders of your competitiors.
    Easy enough? To be more specific, you need to get your religion roughly on t55-60 (standard speed). To achieve this, my early build order is scout-scout-shrine. It is also helpful to have a peaceful AI nearby for early trade routes, all in order to catch up in science asap. You need to be at Acoustics/Printing Press on t125-130 at the latest. AIs usually prioritize Printing Press, which means that Leaning Tower of Pisa and Globe Theatre are very contested. But, Sistine is usually available and thus I find it to be my "minimum requirement" to even try a CV. If you hard build it, you should have it ready before t140 on average (standard speed). More or less directly afterwards you have to build Uffizi as well (preferably around t150 on standard speed). If you on top of this can reach Archeology around t170-175, it is usally good enough to build Louvre as well. As a disclaimer, you need to track what the AIs are up to (which AIs go Aesthetics and which go Exploration). If no AI have Exploration, I would strongly recommend to go to Radio first (Eiffel & Broadway) before picking up Louvre. It is not such a big deal if one or two AIs get to Archeology before you, if they do not have Exploration. After all, you only need about 10 Antiquity Sites for yourself. On watery maps (Archipelago or Tiny Islands etc) the turn times will usually be a little slower, both for you and for the AIs.
    The turn times used above are, as stated, standard speed. For quick speed you need to multiply by 0.67. This means that you should aim to have Sistine ready around t93-95 and Uffizi just after t100. What I outlined above, is playable with any civ but obviously some civs will make it easier than others. The Mayans (for their unique building), the Aztecs (also for their unique building), Babylon (for their early science boost), Egypt (shorter wonder building times) and Poland (all those social policies) are good contenders for your first peaceful CVs. When you know how to do it with Tradition, you can easily transform it to either Liberty (a chance of faster finishing times) or Piety (just to be different).
    I am not pretending to be the wizard of Civ5 here, because I know there are better players around. However, I do have (at the moment) 26 Deity CVs in the Hall-of-fame (more than any other player) and all in all I have something like 60-70 Deity CVs. Thus, I feel that I know something about the subject.

  • @fortunastreet
    @fortunastreet 3 года назад +16

    Totally agree with the ranking (although I prefer diplomatic just because it is less click intensive).
    Some additional remarks I founded interesting:
    -Domination is also more easy the less civilization there is in the game. On a map with 9 or 11 opponents, it is way harder to prevent all of them from winning.
    -For diplomatic victory, don't forget you can bride other IA to get their votes. Who cares about 50 golds per turn while you are going to win some turns later?
    -Tourism may be the hardest victory for a human, but it can be very dangerous in the hand of the IA, if only a single of them is focused on culture. A solo tourism IA can sneakily take out the game with Olympic games and/or internet if you are not careful enough.

    • @PCJLaw
      @PCJLaw  3 года назад +5

      ooo interesting remarks!
      - Domination with more AIs, definitely agree it becomes less viable, though I usually prioritise the leading AIs first, to avoid one of them sneaking a win past me
      - Diplomatic, true! Is that as much as it usually costs you? In that circumstance Diplomatic can become a decent amount easier if you can get multiple civs on board
      - Tourism, 100% agreed. Tourism is often the AI victory type that's challenging me in my games. I always check for the Tourism and Culture leaders on Domination runs to make sure I don't kill the only AI with enough culture to stop the win!

    • @fortunastreet
      @fortunastreet 3 года назад +3

      @@PCJLaw My latest brides (in Diety) were:
      50 gold per turn
      5 luxuries
      33 gold per turn + two luxuries + open borders
      23 gold per turn + one luxurie
      The easier way to achieve this is to build the Manhattan project and some nukes and scare off some of the fearful leaders/weaker civs who don't have nukes yet.
      Otherwise second rank nations may also accept your bride (even if guarded), if it isn't obvious you will win right away.
      Any nation you liberated will also always vote for you in the world congress (but if you did, you probably don't need the diplomatic victory to begin with)
      IA will usually refuse the bride if it thinks it has a good chance to win, or if your position at the world congress is already very strong.
      Less than 10 delegates away from the required number to win the congress seems to be the moment where the IA begins to refuse your brides.
      It is why you should try to take mondialisation at the very last moment (with diplomat already in place, of course), like one turn before the vote with a scientist, so the IA is least scared to give you votes.
      As you said, it is possible to bride multiple IAs at the same time. IA never knows you already bought someone else, so you can easily get two minor civs on board.
      Any IA you bride is worth 4 delegates in the information era (equivalent to 2 city-states), and cost virtually nothing.
      Diplomatic victories are also more easy with more players (if none are a strong Venice, Greece or Austria), as it means more city-states, more diplomats and more weak IAs to bride.

    in NQmod, more opening trees are viable (honor and piety are also relevant) and more victory types are balanced with rationalism nrefed. I switch between standard and NQ mode to have a different taste.
    By the way, exploration as the opening in NQmode is super fun. There is a tenant called colonism in exploration. Which gives you a worker,2 free pop and 2 free hapiness and 6 extra tiles when founding a new city.
    This is a video from filthy robot and I've never saw such an interesting start when using exploration as the starting tree:

      Exploration in Lekmod/NQ Mod is super cool! I love how it tackles the most common issues in coastal empires and gives you away to found more cities, later on (once you've had a chance to scout the islands)

    You don't need World Wonders to win the Cultrure Victory.
    The best and consistent way to win it is to rush Archeology, build archeologists like crazy (you can't buy them so you'll need a lot of productive cities).
    Then you have to ignore all archeology sites inside your territory and plunder all your neighbors artifacts.
    Focus on the culture leader first, this way they have less culture, you have more tourism.
    Also, never attempt Culture Victory if your Civ is not tailored for it. Unless, you are a Civ5 god and want a super challenge.

    • @Gonzshf
      @Gonzshf 2 года назад +1

      It's really hard to pull off. If you are going for a domination victory I think in every scenario you should at least conquer one or two capitals in early eras (Crossbow/Composite bowman push).
      Then you can simcity all the way through to stealth bombers/nukes, etc.
      The other easy way that he didn't say is play arabia, pangea map and go for chamel archers straight away while keeping your economy up.
      With 4/5 camel and a great general you basically can destroy any civ.
      I won my second deity domination victory with wwii soldiers mixed with camel archers, they stay OP til industrial/modern eras.

    Very nice video. My subjective opinion though is that the quick formula you give for Domination, is not domination in the real sense. Its more of a cheat. If one has to go for Stealth Bomber and Xcom, one might go for SV instead. While early game wars and domination is Tedious, esp on Deity, that is the proper way to play Domination IMHO, where strategy is involved to win wars and one will use units from all eras, upgrade them etc.

    • @Frilleon
      @Frilleon 9 месяцев назад

      As a deity player, you almost can’t win without the stealth bomber and xcom strat on an 8 civ map to some degree. To capture 7 capitals otherwise against the insane resources the deity AI cubs have is almost huge task that can’t be consistently done. Trust me…some of the deity civs have endless hordes of units to wade through. You’ll undoubtedly fall behind at some point trying to match them through multiple eras

    • @abhishekab1
      @abhishekab1 9 месяцев назад

      @@Frilleon I partly agree. I am not against using Xcom and Stealth bomber for Domination, if it comes to that. All I am saying is that plaing the game like mostly like a SV and then at last moment retorting to Xcom etc. is not what I consider a domination victory. One needs to start early or mid-domination applying some sort of strategy to capture a few civs and then go super late game if needed. Anyways, I m a purist, so only I capped it by saying that was my humble opinion.
