John McAuley is an artist and even though this is ripped off from J. Prine what a beauty! Jonh, we love you! Thanks for exposing youself to us and the world!
“The one thing that will never change is that yer always on my brain 🫂🙏 Baby turn that oven on, you can count on ME! If yer ever in jail and you need some bail I got the money..” miss ya Nettie, it’s been 2 yrs tomorrow… I really wish you’d given me the chance to show you how much I love and appreciate you. Yer never alone, idk where you came from and I don’t know where you are… Id love to talk, everything is at it should and I would love nothing more than you to know I’ve done everything I can and now would invite you anytime to come and live, actually live happily the rest of yer life🤝💜☸️🥀🐇🦄🌹🌙🌕
john prine. i dunno for sure, but i think the music in this song might be loosely based on john prine's "clocks and spoons". i really like this song...it seems to stick in my head for a couple days after i hear it once. john mccauley has one of my favorite voices in terms of modern artists.
I know this post is 11 years old, but I just wanted to clarify it’s neither Clocks and Spoons or In Spite or Ourselves, the verses are the melody of the song “You’ve got Gold”
@headstock48 Unfortunately I haven't. I was actually just turned on to them today by a friend. I agree this is a great song. You should definitely check out some John Prine if you're into this type of songwriting, assuming you haven't already
@headstock48 Kinda like travis picking. If you wanna lesson on how to do it look up a youtube lesson of "Julia" by the Beatles. It has the same alternating thumb picking with the right hand. The left hand is the standard country/folk C, F, C, G progression like every John Prine song lol. That should basically be it. You'll have to work out the lead embellishments by ear though.
It is one thing to be influenced by somebody but you really should not try to sound just like them . I might like him if he said ' I am going to do my best John Prine imitation for you ,'
@@kendylan1021he doesn’t sound anything like Handsome Johnny🤷🏼♂️ but I garuntee John loved this… just saw Sean/Slim, and Oliver Wood(Wood bros) cover That’s the way the world goes round… I saw Sean open for John and he forgot the lyrics🫣 I didn’t notice but he did- So it’s fun watching him do it again, he and Oliver played it last night of the tour and the ending, just kinda ended a big beautiful mess, and it was exactly what JP would of loved to have seen!! It was special, luckily these artists are keeping him alive!!
