Herbie is probably the coolest guy anybody will ever know. Just a fantastic song. The bassist is just killin it. Amazing intro. And hot rails on Strat. Whut?

That is fantastic. Herbie and the band with their individual talents. And to be playing out there in the sun and the wind, not the easiest for a flute.

Must be the number on Jazz etc flautist of all time.

The studio original had the most addictive, deep, *slinky* groove that isn't much in presence here. I know, this is a jazz festival so the piece is played jazzier, and with a couple of jarring speed changes. It's still pretty good though, glad I saw this.

Super talent by all, the searing guitar, those thick and intense bass lines, percussion all around, and of course Herbie on his flute)...unfortunately I didn't seek out opportunities to see jams like this before his passing. I did see some wonderful jazz musicians at Mt. Fuji festival in early 90's, the other Herbie (Hancock), etc.. Toyko Blue note was too steep a price at the time for my meager E-5/E-6 military pay!

Most over rated flute player in jazz - most of the saxophone doublers were way better - Roland Kirk, Joe Farrell, Yusef Lateef, James Moody Eric Dolphy. Then you have the actual flute specialists like Hubert Laws, James Newton and Dave Valentin (who is kind of cheesy but has chops to burn Mann to hell)....

Richard Worth for what it’s WORTH, your two cents of negativity doesn’t impact his legacy or his appreciation among his many fans.

His “skill” was his innate understanding of what made an accessible melody and his ability to groove.
