Today if Yamato would have new CIWS Phalanx or RAM systems.... It would survive such kind of air attack. Strength of its armour upscaled with plenty modern anti-aircraft weapon should deal even with modern manuveuring missiles and modern aircrafts.
No one gonna talk about how Iowa managed to enter the Imperial Japanese Fleet without being spotted and rams Yamato without any damage to her bow and point blanks Yamato which somehow doesn’t detonate Yamato’s ammunition and blows up Iowa with it?
@@buhrmomteno8320 I understand that, but if Steel Ocean (this GMV is a mixture of WoWs and SO) is gonna be pulling up some dumb stuff like that, then I would expect some talk about it.
if yamato and iowa had a 1 v 1 fight, i think iowa may not have a chance of winning, but at night iowa might win because of her more advanced radar than yamato and her more accurate fire
In a day battle with good weather conditions in the pacific Yamato would have easy advantage with superior optics and funni pagoda mast, probably spot Iowa over the horizon before Iowa's radar can even point at Yamato. Yamato simply being taller gave it the advantage in a day battle over the pacific, which is pretty common.
@@gearz2570 The Japanese were also good at night time ambushes. It was until they invented radars that the Japanese had the upper hand. Even then, the Allies didn’t trust radars and that’s how the USS Juneau was sunk. May the Sullivan Brothers rest in peace o7

@@Ch3wyz_z in the case of Philipphines, they likely would have had support (destroyers and carriers). In a 1 v 1 battle Iowa would likely dictate the battle as she had the higher speed and likely would just run away and request air support. But with Iowa being a mighty battleship to the crews and officers, they likely would've had a duel, to the death. With both battleships firing at each other, a hit or two on both sides would've been devastating, with Iowa having the higher chance to hit with less damage, and Yamato making more damage, with less chance.

And wound up fleeing from what should have been a vastly inferior opponent, due to overestimating them (hence using AP and overpenetrating the tiny ships for much of the battle) and being taken by surprise from the sheer ferocity the Taffies showed. Taffy 3 may have been slaughtered, but the Japanese center fleet still wound up fleeing with noteworthy casualties.
Iowa would actually be a pretty fair fight for Yamato; by the end of WW2, America had noticeably superior radar systems, and Iowa had a slightly better effective range, as well as more speed. Montana, on the other hand, has been (admittedly mistakenly) referred to as a 'Yamato Killer'. In reality, it's designers had no knowledge of the Yamato, though it's design philosophy was quite similar to what led to the creation of the Yamato class: A battleship that was just beyond reasonable, essentially, an attempt to create a second dreadnought-style evolution, and make everything else useless. While Montana was designed without knowledge of the Yamato class, it's armor _was_ designed to withstand it's own massive guns (designed to be excessively large), which would have had a roughly equivalent penetrative ability to Yamato's, so it's armor would have been highly effective against Yamato's shells, while it's own guns would have had slightly better range. Meanwhile, America's superior radar, damage control and, by the time that Montana would have been created, significant air superiority (by the end of the war, Japan simply ran out of planes) would grant a significant advantage. Basically, it was America's version of the Yamato... Just with a few extra years of R+D mixed in, granting it a notable edge. ... Of course, if you were to give Iowa a few W23s...? No contest. (The W23 was a nuclear artillery shell and, IIRC, the only naval nuclear artillery shell ever designed. Created in 1956 to be used by the Iowa class' main guns, and retired in 1962. Only 50 were made, and they were never actually used)
