I've been using this on my maddening run, and I've got to admit it's kind of funny when everyone runs at mage knight Anna to kill themselves leaving me with a few thousand gold in my hands
I will say, it's a little funky but I been liking bonded shield on seadall. On one hand it sucks having to choose between dancing or shielding, but on the other hand sometimes the extra dance just isn't that useful. An extra kill is nice but not as useful if there are still 5+ enemies in attacking range. Regardless, I also like using corrin fog on the unit on the back side of the + formation, furthest from enemies. It'll give the bonus avoid to 2 side units plus the bonded shield user, making it possible for them to hit such high avoid that enemies don't target them
I ran Anna on Sage with Byleth for the artillery range and changed her to mage knight a while later and kind of regretted it. After that I was struggling to find a useful unit to put Byleth on because I didn't have any Mystics. I eventually settled on Veyle, but it basically just became Goddess Dance machine. Byleth's range bonus for Mystical units is just so damn good and it's just so damn good on Anna. In future runs I might either keep her on Sage, or use Mage Knight but make sure to have another Sage for Byleth. I'm also thinking about running a pure ground unit team. No cavs, no fliers. I am thinking that the much shorter movement range will change up the strategies a ton.
Eyyyyy glad you recognize the strat bro. This is why I use Cupido Fogado as my bonded shield bot cuz his avoid is crazy good and enemies ignore him and/or he can counter mages easily. This also frees up Alear to do damage.
I’m looking forward to the wave 4 DLC, one of the classes that could be released is a Qi Adept and will have access to knives so they’ll be able to use Lucina Emblem and do 100% bonded shield for everyone plus poison stack with chain attacks, giving the best of both worlds.
@@acefreak9561 Yes, I wasn’t sure if the name was spoiler territory but that’s the class I was referring to. And while the mage cannoneer will have a wider range for chain attacks they should be an armor class so the 100% bonded shield will only be for armored allies which isn’t as strong as having it for all allies.
I've been using Wolf knight Alear to some success with Lucina. They get access to daggers, so dual assist+ has poison now. Also dual support adds a lot of avoid with mage knight, or MM Framme.
You're really just describing my ideal team comp. My bonded shield core is usually wolf knight Alear with Lucina, with Anna and Pandreo on mage knight. Then I'll have 2 sages with corrin/byleth, 3 fliers (1 griffin, 1 wyvern, 1 Ivy), 2 warriors, 1 Seadall
Martial master Framme with her aelar avoid passive and dual support is enough to reach unhittable avoid with just the two of them and you can slot in any character into the open two slots with 100% protection as you see fit. She also supports op units if you need aelar to be freed up.
Have you tried mage knight Alear? Their spread is actually really good for it randomly. They have a 40% in str and mag, 50 in spd, def, res. So something like sword power with levin and a physical sword would be interesting. I’m planning on giving it a go next time
I'm pretty sure Seadall has quite a lot of support options and although you sacrifice dance, being able to guarantee bonded shield on any character can be really useful. Not to mention I normally throw Micaiah engraving on his weapon so his avoid hits well over 200 endgame.
I generally still prefer flier bonded shield because it's just very simple to keep units together due to ignoring terrain. The mounted bonded shield is legit though, especially and somewhat ironically, on indoor maps. It could be possible to swap up the Lucina user between Alear, who is great as a wyvern, and someone part of your cav retinue, probably a wolf knight for poison chain attacks, and get the best of both worlds depending on the map, but I'd need to play around with that idea more first.
I really like WK Lapis bonded shield Anna mage knight, chloe, other cavalry, etc. Also, you should give Fogado Cupido a shot. Jut forge him up the Radiant Bow, and watch as he destroys and doubles fliers (except Griffon knights but he one shots them so) and enemy armors, he can even sit comfortably in the bonded shield after cantering from killing something. He also is a great use of Eirika.
With this comp, you could run Great Knight Lapis, too. With her crazy speed growths and some +Speed, she can easily avoid getting doubled, and Great Knight really balances out her low strength and defense.
I’ve used the bonded shield strat on dragon (base class) Alear through two runs with great success as well. 90% proc rates with a high speed unit next to them usually means ~5% chance the unit gets hit, so unless I get extremely unlucky or the unit can’t tank a single hit it ends up similar enough. Ultimately its a trade-off of flexibility vs. safety, and I’ve preferred the flex in my two runs so far.
Pretty cool you tried this out! I did this with Alear, Merrin, Fogado, Kagetsu and it did wonders but not having a sage knight for generals sucks even with Fogado magic bow. Wolf knight Alear was nice since daggers add poison damage for chain attacks which can shred bosses while also having nice range. Now we just need to test if there is any use case with general bonded shield strats lol
Using Bonded horse on my maddening run. Paladin Alear holding Lucina, with 1 each of Mage/Bow/Wolf/Royal Knights. You have a solid 5 core that covers 2-3 range, anti-air, magic, physical, healing, and of course bonded tank. The only spooky maps are chapter 17 and Sigurd paralogue which both involve enemy Sigurd that can do an anti-cav override.
This dichotomy is kind of why I just prefer the 90% shield on Dragon. Sure, it's not 100% but The enemies still have to hit through evasion and the 90%. Whoever you're running in to bonded shield tank is also likely high investment and can take a hit so the enemy has to break the 90% twice. This leaves a lot more flexibility in building comps as well as in choosing which units to hold chokes.
I was considering this, glad to hear it's good. I love me some paladins, weird they removed their baseline canto bonus and such while flier is a thing :(
I make sure that Amber stops horsing around, dawns the wolf tail, and becomes the furry crusader. It completely invalidates hobble, because you cant hobble that which always gets KOd by ambers sweet str growth lololol
I thought about doing this but with Alear as a Royal Knight. Might be useful against brave weapons/fists and fracture staves or Griffin knights that will outspeed your units.
@@sphyxsairiss It's honestly hard for me to justify putting almost any emblem on Seadall because he will almost never actually make full use of them I suppose if you have all of the DLC emblems then you have plenty to spare for your whole team but I liked Camilla's damage output too.
Assuming no one needs starsphere, Tiki? You can dance while in dragon form and you can position him more aggressively. While engaged he can enemy phase pretty well so you're still dancing every turn.
@@sphyxsairiss I guess? Starsphere is just so good at turning your actual good units even further into beast territory. Seadall is just such a passive unit and all of the emblems really want you to be active. Free money farming Anna on enemy phase, I think I brought this up on another video using bonded shield like this but with Merrin Wolf Knight due to natural high avoid but Alear def is better for support bonuses and personal passive insuring kills.
So I am doing a maddening run currently with the horse style strat but put Alear on Bow Knight. Downside is only gets B swords but does gain access to bows, making other bow units not QUITE as necessary, they lose the def. Growth of Paladin but gain better dex growth at the cost of 5 less hp and str growth. Not 100% sold yet but it is effective.
I actually made Jean a Royal Knight and gave him Starshpere and he's just a big ball of stats. Not alot of units can make use of that class, but I personally think Jean and Merrin are good candidate for Royal Knight due to their base growth rate
I'll keep this in mind if I ever do another Vander supports only run but without DLC, or maybe Saphir, Lindon, or Anna supports only. Ironically, my current Vander supports only run isn't a challenge. I'm having an easier time on chapter 16 than I did when I restricted the use of DLC on my last run. DLC breaks the difficulty of the game.
I'll be honest, being able to recover Lucina faster and being able to 100% bond any Unit, makes me prefer Martial Master over horse bond any time. The only benefit would be 1 movement I suppose but how often is that needed (can also give a movement speed to your martial master to keep up with all horses/flyers anyway). Flyers at least can move out of bounds so there's a good case there. Id say Martial = Flyer > Horse Bond > else.
I didn't hear you say Royal knight, maybe you did, also you have fulgato and alfred unique class as well to work with this strat, i tried to do it with wolf knight jean as my lucina holder for the dagger assist, but he litteraly did nothing so i made him a royal knight and he started popping off you can give him Celica food skill to maximize bonded strats
