    I recall both Vika Karpenko and Lindsay Wing competing a standing Arabian in 1997, but I'm nearly positive Katya Lobaznyuk was the first to do it at a Worlds or Olympics (she did it at both coincidentally). I assume it was already in the COP and that is why it wasn't allowed to be named for her. Bummer.

    And this was TEN YEARS AGO, man I can't believe it, time flies!
    She's absolutely one of my favorite gymnasts EVER along with Andreea Raducan.

    I love Katya! I think she is so adorable. Another one of my faves. She was definitely marked down at 9.600 and she deserved the gold at Athens.

    Ekatrina Lobaznyuk can be spelled different ways. That's the holy flipping magic of the Russian last name. It can be spelled and pronounced a lot of different ways with spelling and pronunciation.

    Indeed, 9.600 is way too low I think. Perhaps she took to much time for the standing arabian.

    @marcsw5000 She just seems to be saying great job to her-and shaking her from the emotion or excitement of the moment.

    BOTH OF THOSE SPELLINGS OF HER NAME ARE CORRECT!!!

  • @kras118

    No, but I don't know who was the first. Lindsey Wing (USA) performed it in 1997 (but not at Worlds). So maybe she was first at Worlds?

      To be named-after a gymnast, the element has to be perform in a FIG official event

      Alexander Ortiz Cruz Not quite. It has to be preformed well at an Olympics or World Championships.

    Wait so standing Arabian isn’t what Jennie Thompson was doing back in ‘96?

    • @thesovgc
      @thesovgc Год назад +1

      No, Jennie did a standing back with a full IIRC. A la Tatiana Gutsu in 1991/1992. Or Alevtina Pryakhina in 1986/1987 if you want to go a bit further back.

  • @You-dh1du
    @You-dh1du 4 года назад +5

    A gymnast with a runny nose = lack of quality in the Russian team? The commentator needs to chill lol.

    • @Cmc995
      @Cmc995 Год назад

      She created a narrative lol but Ekaterina did come into this worlds inexperienced and she was really reliable for the team

      Monica Phelps is the most batshit commentator of all times. There are whole compilations on here of all her inane remarks, usually about gymnasts’s weight (when she was no prize pig herself)

      Look at every gymnast at that time. They all have that high in their landings, I think it´s because of the beam.
