    My gum Arabic that I haven’t used for awhile is dark. Should I trash it?

    Could this be used as a protective layer to avoid other liquids touching my paint or should i use verniz instead?

      @@neoaureus they were asking because the original, hard form, is commonly used in food products as an emulsifier and stabilizer. it is also sometimes chewed similar to other gums/resins like pine.

      This gum Arabic is intended for art. As a result, there are no instructions or information on it's use in food. If you want food grade gum Arabic, you will have to buy it from a reliable source. Probably a confectionery supply shop

      get the raw solid stuff. this probably has some extra ingredients in there to make it a consistent liquid form and isn't something you'd want to consume i'd imagine.

      ​​@@y3k243i agree, just dissolve the crystals in water for 24 hours, in at least twice the amount of water, more if you want it thin and not gloopy. After its fully dissolved, Store it in the refrigerator. Throw it out if it smells bad. Gum arabic crystals can be found at convinience stores (at least where i live).
