- The history of the British Empire is littered with horrendous crimes. From the partitions of India and Ireland, to the suppression of the Mau Mau uprising, to the violent Jallianwala Bagh massacre, to its murderous role in the Easter Rising and Bloody Sunday; it is impossible to mention all the brutalities of British imperialism.
Many brave anti-imperialists have fought and died for the cause of expelling British imperialism from their countries. It is our duty to learn from this history.
Despite this, the legacy of the British Empire lives on, as does British Imperialism, though in a degenerate and pathetic form. Today, many previous colonies are still struggling to break free from the economic and political backwardness imposed upon them by the British state.
In this session, Sarah Vedrovich will discuss the rise and fall of the British Empire and the heroic attempts to fight back against British forces, opening up the arsenal of historical lessons which must be absorbed if we are to overthrow imperialism and capitalism today.

Capitalism wants capital at all costs. Profit can be secondary provided a monopoly can be established. Many companies actually run at a loss for years so they can buy a market share.
The “profit motive” argument does not explain growth. Growth, and capital, are primary for the capitalist. If the capitalist is not able to move his capital(which can be debt, credit, or money) then he we surely shrink and be swallowed up. This is what explains monopoly much more than greed.
I find many comrades explaining capitalism as a process of greed, which is about as misguided as attributing colonization to the white race.

Yeah, the Nazis and other fascists were defeated and the inter-imperialists went right back to anti-socialist imperialist expansion (wars/cold war) immediately after the RED ARMY and CHINA defeated the fascist contingent of the imperialists. That's what happened. And any socialist nations who then reverted back to CAPITALISM with counterrevolutions are in ABJECT POVERTY now. And look at the state of WESTERN EUROPE now. And Czechoslovakia was INVADED BEFORE WWII by the British "allowing" the Nazis to take over the country---ditto for the rest. ....."Cynically declared war on Japan? Japan invaded Russia and China before the "proper date" Poland invasion and Russia had a non-aggression pact w/Japan after beating back the previous ILLEGAL INVASION and the destruction of the soviet railroads in CHINA. Who dropped the bombs on CIVILIANS when the war was already ending and the Red Army would have stopped Japan? THE US. Maybe stop reading American BULL$HIT history? US imperialism along with Europe was ALL OVER Asia and the islands for CENTURIES before--LOL! The following is an alternative methodology and analysis to those arrived at through philosophy, which I would characterize as biology-based, with foundations established through evolutionary biology, evolutionary psychology, Authoritarian Personality, and behavioral economics. It would caution against establishment liberal social science, and individual-based “tabula rasa” state of nature theory.
Tribalism is Homo sapiens state of nature, and the phenomenon scales-up to the self-interested state. Imperialism is an expression of self-interested in-group human tribalism, where tribalism demonstrates a biological synthesis of Ethnocentrism (“race,” genetics), Monotheism (a spectrum of belief systems), and Ultra-nationalism (territoriality, resources). Existential nonnegotiable White Christian Nationalist identity is an effective example, but equivalents exist on every continent, in every state. Self-interested ruling class in-group tribal identity remains entrenched throughout nativist populism, nativist elites, oligarchy, plutocracy, and authoritarian apparatus.
Central to the characteristics of in-groups is that (IG’s) will consider out-groups (OG’s) as a “lesser” entity, and inversely, an IG will consider itself as a “greater” entity. A wide array of “lesser” attributes are ascribed to OG’s, specifically subhuman demonization; and likewise, a wide array of “greater” attributes are ascribed to IG’s, specifically forms of supremacy. Supremacies include: ethnic, religious, and homeland, ideological, and the trifecta of national exceptionalism, national innocence, and national mythology. Additional “supremacies” occupy the characteristics of Authoritarian Personality, which are more correctly identified as tribal instincts with authoritarian characteristics. Some of these are: winning is everything; fealty to hierarchy; fealty to the conservative status quo of an unchanging identity; spiteful of weakness; preferring to solve problems quickly with violence; believing they can win every fight; boastful of victories and conquests; and preferring mutually assured destruction to defeat. Demonizations include castigation as: a lesser race, subhuman status, a lesser god, a lesser nation, lesser ideologies, and being dirty, diseased, untrustworthy, criminal, and stupid. Of course, none of these tribal identities are better or different, yet they each instinctively prosecute these same characteristics, including fall victim to them through zero-sum hubris and belligerence. Once the taxonomy of these “lesser” and “greater” attributes are understood, complexity finds resolution through this reductionism, and the concern of over-determinism is avoided.
These in-group/out-group characteristics and dynamics are exploitable, and underlie the endemic ability to divide and conquer. Be aware that if you take away an IG’s weaponized economics, they will alternatively organize through race, religion, and evergreen Authoritarian characteristics. Consequently, socialism requires transcending Homo sapiens tribal origin story, and its ongoing expressions of class-based societies initially enabled through exploiting agrarian surplus, and additionally through technology and weaponized economics. As noted above, the nation-state is simply a self-interested ruling class in-group tribal identity entrenched throughout oligarchy, plutocracy, and authoritarian apparatus, which exerts an exploitative out-group dichotomy against the multiracial multicultural wage-labor working class.
This Western tribal integrity maintains continuity during the influence of global corporate capitalism, where weaponized economics serve the self-interested state. Nevertheless, the Frankensteinian corrosive power of global capital does seem poised to overwhelm its nation-state maker, where greed may have finally killed the host. This fate could have been avoided if the ruling class had shared wealth and power with the working class, but the supremacist expansionist state sought wealth and power over everything else, especially over democracy, egalitarianism, and harmony.
Regarding the modern establishments promotion of diversity, it should be clarified that neoliberal social engineering seeks to diversify the elites (PMC) as an optical gesture, while maintaining the underlying status quo orthodoxy. The tactic frames the issue of achieving social solutions as a matter of empowering diversity, while distinctly pointing society in the opposite direction of the real solution, which is through egalitarian economic reform. Where henceforward, the social diversity deception simply continues to pull the levers of neoliberal orthodoxy.
Socialism is actually about managing surplus without introducing exploitation; and Ecosocialism, doing so in an environmentally sustainable manner. Science-based systems-based solutions that employ reverse engineering in relationship to physics-governed environmental determinism rather transcend the legacy political ideologies.
as wrong as it was, we need to understand that it was the fault of the handful of people in command of it - not white people collectively. collective blaming based on people's skin color is racist and it applies to the case of imperialism just as much as any atrocity committed by any group of people. i am a white man and i love my skin color, and i've never oppressed anyone in my life, end of the story. if you blame me for any of that nonsense you've ironically become yourself what you stand against.
