4.0L is good for towing, hauling, pulling because of its robust low and mid range torque (great gearing too). In the high rpm range, it just maintains speed to keep pulling loads, not for speed. It faceplants in the higher rpms. The 3.5L sucks at pulling, towing, hauling in the low and mid rpm ranges, but its capabilities are very close to the 4.0L in the high rpm ranges. You can't go wrong with both though. It all comes down on how you want your power to be delivered. If constant towing is a factor, I'd suggest the tamed 4.0L. The 3.5L is way too loud and has too narrow of a torque curve, but if fun is on your list, the 3.5L is a monster when off-roading because of its high revs!

The 3.5 isn't slow, as long as you're already at speed. What really kills our engines acceleration is the lack of low end torque and poor gearing.
