The path of least resistance destroys the soul.
Think about it...
The more you go with the flow, ride the tide, take the "smooth" path, the more you accept the idea that you are just a victim to the conditions of the world that life throws at you.
Just like a feather in the wind, you lose command to the direction of your own life.
The profane engulfs you whole.
The rhythm of the material world becomes the rhythm of your undisciplined soul.
For example:
You buy into wanting what you desire without consequential thought (gluttony and lust)
You judge too quickly with emotional reactivity without thought (wrath)
You are deeply jealous only of those with material possessions that you don't have (envy)
You let your determined worldly impulses guide your actions without thought (sloth)
You only have ambitions towards the profane and mundane rewards of the material world (greed)
So what is it that is lacking in all of these behaviour patterns and ways of life?
The choice to embrace free will which God has granted you.
The choice to reject the profane nature of dehumanising determinism to resist the world for a higher good in life.
When you reject free will you also reject your ability to resist against the things of this world that try to control you.
With the acceptance of free will you embrace the ability to act in resistance towards the things of this world that try to overcome and consume you through divisiveness.
To instead, choose to direct your own life through virtue, discipline and righteousness which are qualities that can only be obtained through free will.
But, if you take the path of least resistance, it is to equally accept the path of sin where both spiritual and physical death remain always to be the final destination.
Therefore…
Take the path of resistance.
Know your enemies.
For we wrestle not against flesh and blood
But against principalities,
Against powers
Against the rulers of the darkness of this world
Against spiritual wickedness in high places.

The path of most or least resistance depends on the context and subject matter. One isn't necessarily better than the other, and both will have their effects in reality. We have to acknowledge when, where, and how to emulate either of them appropriately and contextually for the desired outcome.
