The Chinese audience thought she was almost like a goddess of hope when singing that song. As far as I remember, Singer doesn't have big prize for champion every year, it's just more about a rare opportunity for well-established, talented singers to compete with each other and get breakthrough. I mean champions not necessarily benefit the most from the show. Many were murdered by the Germans; many were taken away and worked to death in factories. Lyudmila talks of one 12 yr old girl in the Crimea in a rural village. She was raped repeatedly by German soldiers and then mutilated and her body dismembered and smashed against the wall of her home. Her crime ... nothing ... a pure act of terrorism.
