I feel like the African incident showed some real character development. I feel like it wouldn't have been long ago that an like incident like that. Would have caused a whole video of blame passing rather then sharing it.
Yeah, it would've been an hour long screechfest, and then the blame would've gone on even as they were staring down D-Day. Here, mutual agreement that they coordinated bad and neither side should take all the blame after only like, a few minutes. Later on, they realized they were screwed due to game mechanics regardless, preferring to have lost the way they did because at least it wouldn't be as bullshit, calmly talking about it and how much more mad they would've been that way.
Nah, they pretty much realize it was really no one's fault in the end but the game. Even if they had units there, the game still treats the tile as under the enemy control as long as the paratroopers keep fighting. It is why paras are widely banned in multiplayer, it is very easy to cheese with them. Imagine 1-2 thousand paratroopers with limited equipment can somehow magically prevent over a hundred thousands strong army from blasting through them.

In defense of golden hoi4 is the only game I've seen that shits itself when steam isn't running, closing steam would usually work for me in most of the games I played on a low spec system.
It has to do with the online, if it was offline, it would have probably been ok. Most online games use steam api and stuff to work (this also mean it's difficult/impossible to cheese the share library function)
A lot of games on Steam don't use Steamworks and run fine without Steam running. Victoria 2 is a nice example since it's actually another Paradox game - you can go into the steamapps folder and run Vicky 2's exe directly while Steam isn't running.
