    Weather it's a Mustang, a Spitfire ,or a Hurricane , there is no music sweeter than a Merlin's snarl! No other comes close!

      Also, it’s still on strength with the Royal Air Force - one of 2 Hurricanes that make up the RAF Battle of Britain Memorial Flight together with 6 Spitfires and a Lancaster.

    06:58 spectacular. Oh yeah RAF Hurricane fighters were also involved in the Battle of Singapore (I’m from Singapore) and while they got a campaign in “IL-2 1946” as a nod to that I know the pilots back then did what they could to hold off the attacking Japanese forces.

    Between all the Hurricanes, Spits, Lancasters, Mosquitos, Mustangs and P40's flying around there must be a thriving trade in Merlin rebuilding.

    Stunning work I had a ticket but was unable to attend superb camera work with clear prob blur not easy to film moving aircraft and to find a spot in the crowd.Many thanks for sharing.

      Thanks Ian. Fortunately Shuttleworth is a lot easier to film at than many other venues and a glorious venue, as you probably know?

    What was there...three that they could find in all the world when the filmed The Battle of Britain in the '60s. Now just look. I know of one other that was in Vancouver Washington back in the '90s, I got some pictures of it, but that was the only other one I've seen

      Fortunately the numbers are continually growing with more and more restorations. There are now 10 Hurricanes on the civil register in the uk, 9 of which are airworthy, plus 2 more airworthy with the RAF on the military register. In addition there are another 5 or so airworthy elsewhere in the world, including one with the Everett Museum at Paine Field, Washington.

      @@HighFlight Yep, thats the one. We were there initially, to see the oldest flying DC3 when the Hurricane caught my eye. They were kind enough to let me look in the cockpit. Imagine my surprise to see that you could see the ground through the landing gear bays from the cockpit. I recall the fellow telling me that the had two left wings and swapped one for a right wing that a farmer was using to drag his field!!

    If someone wanted to do a remake of the Battle of Britain film, they could do it properly now with a properly representative cast of aircraft rather than generating the myth that the Battle of Britain was almost entirley Spitfires.

    • @HighFlight
      @HighFlight  5 лет назад

      Yes, the Hurricane could be properly represented but there would be a problem with real German aircraft. Although there are a few genuine ME109s, there are still more Buchon's that have survived thanks to the film and precious few, if any, Heinkel HE111s or other German bombers!

      There are actually no ME 109s but a few BF 109s.😏 Sorry for the correction.
