I share your love of this style and vintage of Filofax. I was interested in the background info you’d found on the ring manufacturer. I also have a N&H wallet with a smaller version of the same make of rings, so I can now date it as post WWII. You are right that the product range changed very little until 1980.
Thank you for your feedback. I emailed Gilmex a few days ago, and I'm hoping they'll get back to me at some point. If they do, I'll add any info in the description of this video.
I've sort of given up looking for a Filofax branded binder that is vintage and this nice. Everything I see is way more than I want to pay but since I am in the states, I started looking for vintage binders from Franklin Quest, Day Timer, etc. and I finally scored what I think is a nice example of a burgandy colored binder. Maybe not as old but it is a simple 6 ring binder (Franklin calls it the Pocket size wich I found out is the same as Filofax A6 size ring spacing). I am just waiting for it to show up in the mail. I'll post a video on my main channel account and alert you to it (if you are interested) when I get it posted.
Reminds me a bit of the personal-size Heritage ones I'm partial to. Basically a great smallish file - not a wannabe wallet, not a wannabe desk tidy and not something with flaps or fasteners that need attending to. If this is your thing, then I can only observe that the brown ones feel much nicer than the black ones in the hand. I didn't expect that, but I've now handled both. Hope you enjoy it.
Mainly on eBay, but sometimes in other places such as charity shops and "bricks and mortar" auctions. You are right about the risks with preloved filofaxes; there is a risk. You certainly have to be very careful, and even then there are risks, because some (indeed, many) sellers do not pack correctly, to avoid damage in the postal system. If I do receive a Filofax with damaged rings I'll either return it to the seller (which can sometimes be time consuming) or use that damaged Filofax to store archived inserts. Thank you for your feedback.
@@Flatability thanks. My last eBay purchase I wrote a note asking them to pad the rings. They didn't but it was at least in a box rather than just jiffy envelope. My heart sinks when I get one in that! My Cuban arrived ok but damn, it's not flatable so far 🤣
It is a real gem. 💎 Great find! Thanks for sharing! Peace and love..Suz What ☮️💛
Thank you. I'm really pleased with it.

Where do you find these lovely vintage Filofaxes? I find Preloved comes with the risk of poor rings etc?
Mainly on eBay, but sometimes in other places such as charity shops and "bricks and mortar" auctions.

Flatability is very important to me, but many Filofaxes don't lie flat. I share your frustration.
Do you think Filofax used this for the inspiration for their Heritage Personal Compact?
I guess we’ll never know, but it is a nice thought. The heritage model is on my acquisitions list for sure.
So the Heritage Compact arrived.I love it. It sits absolutely flat and looks and feels great. I'd definitely recommend it.@@Flatability
