  • -The Friday and final show of Bennett Cerf's week on the TTTT panel in 1970. Subjects include a man who kayaked from NY to Miami to study water pollution and a young adult named "Robin Hood" (showing how "Name's The Same" hadn't been forgotten by the Goodson people even though it was never revived).

    Thanks for uploading these episodes with Bennett Cerf on the panel. This was always my favorite version of TTTT as the panel regulars were great and Gary was a superb host 👍

      1) BENNETT CERF founded Random House Book Publishers and served as CEO and president
      2) He was a panelist of What's My Line from 1950 until 9/3/67

    What a great show. Informative, intelligent, interesting, entertaining and fun all at once. Game shows were once and can continue to be a stimulating experience.

      That era of "entertainer" on the panel, wore suits, ties, dresses, and were interesting and NOT JUST SEEKING TO GET A LAUGH at every moment. I can't stand to watch anything on "The Game Show Channel," because all the "hip" talk, cheap jokes, innuendoes and non-functional English, is a sad statement on our country and its' education by-products. The "Stars" of the 60's and early 70's were TRULY INTERESTED in the GAME, not the jokes. The Game was respected more, and the Show's Producer held it tight.
      Like Allen Ludden in the 60's and 70's on Password/Password Plus, he was a genial, respectful, intelligent Host, and he kept the Game moving along---respecting the Game itself.
      I think it's only going to get worse from here on out. I ONLY watch "Buzzr" Network, showing these Shows I've stated. I'll NEVER watch "Game Show Channel" ever......they began with such promise, but decided to "MODERNIZE" and "UPDATE" their show, which kills it for me and many.

    I'm glad Bennett joined me in getting them both right!! He died a year later.
    In looking up his date of death just now, I learned something else about him I hadn't known: he was married to Sylvia Sidney for half a minute in the Thirties!

    I've always felt that Bennett would do well on TTTT, given his vast geographical knowledge (which wasn't always effective on WML, but definitely would come in handy here) - and I'm glad to see that these 4 episodes have proved me right!

    It's worth noting that Garry Moore would be diagnosed with throat cancer in the mid-'70s (a disease that was very often fatal then), likely resulting from his years as a cigarette smoker. He survived treatment and completely retired from television, and died in 1993 of emphysema.

    Strange, the Clean Water Act was passed in 1972 and this was filmed in 1970, but one contestant said the act was passed.

    I looked up the boy "Robin Hood" David Bragdon online, and it looks like he is currently a public figure working as the executive director of TransitCenter, Inc. in New York, according to Wikipedia. I thought he was quite convincing in this segment for an 11 year old kid!

    The set used in '69 and '70 is downright freaky, almost to the point of being disturbing. What on earth are those shapes in the front of the contestants desks? Look like bizarre molar teeth. I mean, nothing seems to relate to the title of the show. People think Garry Moore was drunk--I think he was on acid. I think public reaction made them change to the dramatically more mainstream set in 1971.

      These syndicated game shows were taped months in advance before their airing on local TV stations (just like today). Perhaps the taping took place on New Year’s Day? That would explain the slurred speech by Gary Moore. At the time of Bennett Cerf’s death in 1971, there were a number of episodes of “What’s My Line?” that remained to be aired. Perhaps this may have been the case also, with these Bennett Cerf episodes of “To Tell The Truth”?

    • @tjo1976
      @tjo1976 Год назад +1

      @@LaptopLarry330 I mean that's possible perhaps but it's more likely he did a little sippy sippy of the ol fire water "to steady his nerves" or he relied too much on the drink. Remember this is a time period where people smoked at their desks at work or in hospitals or on a plane. And getting a sip from the ol' canteen was more common. It's a way of self medicating. Esp in a time where no one wanted to talk about their mental health
