    Today at Badgerworks, we recover from our recent faux pas and try again to actually demonstrate some water effects and electronics, using a 1/2000 scale of a truly venerable battleship, the legendary USS Missouri.

    An absolute brilliant pice of work. Loved the wabbly LED's, great build as usual. Thanks

    I got half way through before the Sandman hit me up the side of the head. So I have to finish this tomorrow.
    You do great work for a Geezer. Wait until you hit Fogey-dom. I'm semi-retired, 70 years old, and I work as a laborer, as a Park Attendant. I'm having the time of my life, because I enjoy the work. Can't wait to see what you create when you become a Fogey.

    Another superb video Sir, love the water effects especially. In fact, if I may say, on genius level 😁

    Excellent, but if something gets that hot I don't think I'd put cotton wool around it!

      I was a little worried at first, but it actually turned out OK. If I was planning to leave it on for a long time, I'd probably add a resistor to drop the voltage slightly.

    Great stuff! I saw this video in my feed yesterday morning and thought I'd save it until the evening to watch it. I then went into my local 'The Works' to see if I could find one of these models, not knowing of course until I watched the video that they hadn't been sold there for quite some time! Anyway, for such a basic kit you did an amazing job with it, and the diorama and water effects are excellent too. Like some others have already commented, I thought about maybe adding a resistor to dim the LED noodles, but I read your reason for not adding one, fair enough. Just one more thing - when you mentioned about the danger of shorting the two battery wires together, you came close to actually doing it when you cut both wires at the same time with your cutters. Don't ask me how I know it can be done!

    • @SteamGeezerUK
      @SteamGeezerUK  23 дня назад +1

      Yes, that's a cardinal sin that I shouldn't have done, cutting the wires together - I usually tell people to *not* do that, so it just shows how you have to be careful. As for the models, I've had these for years in the workshop. I have a couple more I might do in the future... 🙂

    the reason the LEDs are smoking and so bright is because your pushing too much current through them, if you were to put a small resister in line with them, they would glow slightly less brightly, get less warm and last longer before burning out

    • @SteamGeezerUK
      @SteamGeezerUK  24 дня назад

      They actually stopped smoking almost immediately. I think they had some kind of mould release or something on them. I also tried them on a 3v battery and they barely glowed, despite supposedly only requiring 3v, but yes, if it was something I was going to run constantly I might do that, but for this, it really wasn't necessary.

    I do like those noodles. 1:700/800 is as small as I can locate these days.

    Does the boat not move sideways with the blast from the guns? I don't know much about boats either, just wondered about the direction of the wake. All the best Anthony

    • @SteamGeezerUK
      @SteamGeezerUK  24 дня назад +1

      Apparently, they had some kind of something or other under the waterline (I don't know about boats either) that was supposed to prevent them moving laterally, and supposedly the whatever it was on the Missouri was very effective.

    Another stunning creation, though what sort of scale is 1/2000?
    I want some of those noodles!

    • @SteamGeezerUK
      @SteamGeezerUK  25 дней назад +1

      I know, right? I think it's just a nominal scale they use to create a smaller model for those who have neither the time or patience for bigger ships 🙂

    Could you make the noodles brighter or dimmer by adding resistors? just a thought.

    • @SteamGeezerUK
      @SteamGeezerUK  25 дней назад +1

      I think you'd have to be very careful with the forward voltage. I usually test LEDs using a 3v button battery, and on these it barely produced a glow. The battery I used is listed as 3.7v, but those LiPo batteries usually put out about 4.4v when fully charged.
