  • US President Donald Trump is pressuring the Mexican government to crack down on Mexican cartels, blaming them for fomenting America's drugs crisis. He’s threatened tariffs and even military strikes. Mexico has sent hundreds of troops to the state of Sinaloa, where a war rages between two factions of the infamous Sinaloa Cartel, putting civilians at risk. CNN's Isobel Yeung visits the region - speaking to a member of the Sinaloa cartel, meeting families impacted by the violence and seeing the work soldiers are doing to destroy drug production in the rural countryside. #CNN #News

The root of the problem is the drug culture in the USA that need the stuff! As long as drugs are illegal, they will cost more and the supplier makes more money. Make drugs legal, the price will crash down, and the cartel will go bankrupt.

She has the gonads to go straight to the source with her stories, no matter how dangerous the area is. She even visited Xinjiang (the Chinese province where uighur Muslims are being rounded up and sent to torture camps disguised as reeducation camps) for a Vice documentary back when she worked w/ them before the bankrupt.

My brother was killed in Mexico about a few years ago. I was not in Mexico when it happened, but when the woman is asked if the authorities or anyone in power are doing enough and says they do nothing she is absolutely right. My brother was laying in the street they found him in for over two hours, a bystander had to throw a bed sheet over him while people waited. The media also lied about his cause of death and even worse my aunt had told us she asked police if they would investigate and their response to that was “if you pay us more we will”. It’s unbelievable the amount of people dying/ going missing in Mexico and nothings done about it. Lots of open doors and grieving that’s never ending.

Sorry for your loss man. It’s sad because over here, even if you wanted to do the right thing you would only end up putting yourself and the people you love in danger. Drug Cartels end up corrupting politicians and authorities. You don’t know who is friend or enemy. People accustom themselves to all of this activity and rather ignore it. I love Mexico, it’s a beautiful country but sadly most of it has been plagued by this corruption and violence.
I hope all is well with you guys on the other side of the border!

similar thing happened to my aunt. her boyfriend basically sold her to some cops for a night in exchange for drugs. They raped and killed her, her boyfriend skipped town and my aunt's best friend found her a week later lying dead in her apartment. My grandpa later found a video of the assault that lead to her death. He paid thousands of dollars to police and investigators to try to convict her murderers but ended up just being threatened instead. they took my grandpa's money, did nothing and told him to stop investigating or he would get killed too. cops and unmarked vehicles stalked his house for weeks. all we could do was mourn the loss of my aunt because there will be no closure or justice for her sadly. My grandpa told me that although it hurts him immensely, risking all our family to convict her killers was not worth it because even if there was a way convict them it would never bring back my aunt.

I’m an American (first generation) and lost my mom to the cartel when I was 8 years old. My mom struggled with drug abuse, and my abuelita tried to help her by enrolling her into a drug rehabilitation here in California but my mom would often escape or unenroll herself. My grandmother had no choice but to send her to Mexico and placed her in a “secure” rehab facility. We would visit my mom often, I even attended school my 3rd grade in Mexico. A year after, my mom disappeared along with everyone in the drug rehab facility, we arrived and frantically looked and asked everyone in the vicinity but the only answer we got is that the place was infiltrated with cartel members on a random day and they kidnapped everyone including the staff. To this day my family has struggled with the closure on not knowing what happened or could’ve happened. I miss my mom so much and I think about her daily.

As Mexican-American no one should go through this. I have family in Mexico and believe me. I fear for them all the time. It's not too bad where they live, but I just wish Mexico could get better. But in order for that to happen, the United States has to stop with their stupidities admit that there's a lot of consumers inside our country and when they stop consuming then drugs will stop being transported to the us and that would be the end of it.

I couldn't agree with you more. I work as an addiction/psych nurse, so I talk directly to people impacted on both sides. I've done research for many years, and you are absolutely correct. The money needs to be put towards helping the people who use drugs (usually underlying mental health or trauma) and helping make our neighbors country livable, so people don't want to do this and look for other countries to flee to just for safety. Money is at the root of all of this. The US is not innocent, follow the money and the history. Then give a shit about humans. This comment is right on!

The propaganda from CNN. If the cartel hates our president, you know he’s gotta be doing something right. Asking the cartel what they think of the US president has got to be the most stupid thing I’ve ever heard. What they expect, to say he’s a great guy or something. Any criminal organization is always gonna hate the government that’s trying to take them down. This is why the mafia in America hated the FBI so much. Because of the ones that were fighting them, and for the most part took them down. So of course the cartel is gonna hate President Trump. Should’ve asked what they thought about Joe Biden, that would’ve been interesting.

    • @NONONOPE-u9i

@pex320Politicking is a lot more complicated than that. Trump isn’t going to do anything to the cartels as it: a) is intertwined with American big business, and b) would destabilize Mexico which would inevitably being a nightmare for the US.

I can guarantee a few of the military members in this video are on the cartels pay roll.

Because doing so would beg the question, "Why aren't you doing more to prevent this?" The more probing questions become in that direction, the more uncomfortable the answers would be. Looking the other way may pay very well. On the other hand, doing anything effective to resolve the problem could shorten one's live by a lot.

Nope, Cartels arent about drugs is all about power, when they dont see a clear bussiness they change it, it was weed but when they legalize it they jump to harder drugs, in Covid the cartel was selling avocados cause the market was low, they work with Real Estate, human trafficking, etc, there's a drug problem in America but it ain't like is everything. The Cartel is accountable of its part.

If they went against the US government too hard then CNN could lose their licensing real easy, there are many ways a government can hit back against a domestic media company. Call it indirect censorship, it doesn't matter if a news network works with diligence and integrity if they could end up retaliated against by their own government, hence all commercial news network goes along the mainstream narrative to at least SOME level.
Even most of the so-called "free" news agencies mainly operating on the net have an agenda to push, whether that agenda is politically based and supported or it's their personal bias. The very few sources who are truly free are usually solo operators and they either use open-source intelligence or the already tainted information sources others use. It is pretty much impossible to construct a picture that's both unbiased and complete.
This is why we can't have nice things but it's better than nothing. 😮‍💨

    • @eddasjbertrand
      @eddasjbertrand 10 months ago

@TheRealAetherFlowfor an addiction to set you need to have a setting around you: negligence and taboo around mental health, weak community bonds, maybe genetical predespositions (like when you talk about people prone to depression and anxiety, to say the least), life stressors and, yes what you're talking about: the addictive element (call it tobacco, alcohol, fentanyl, opioid, pick your poison).
The US is the only developed nation that has never comed with a strategy on dealing with all the other factors, but the last one. Why? Because it requires recognizing a deep failure in the own culture, it's uncapable of giving well-being to its society in spite of being the most wealthy nation of the world. The US has money, but it has no mental health, no sense of community, no awareness on the things that are important for human beings to flourish apart from a big bank account, and it instead blames the rest of the world on its own problems.
The first step into treating your addiction problem, is being an adult and recognizing you have a problem. The US hasn't got to that place yet.

It has money, but lacks mental health infrastructure, community cohesion, and a deeper understanding of what humans truly need to flourish beyond a bank account. Instead, it shifts blame to the rest of the world for its own issues.
The first step to treating addiction is acting like an adult and admitting you have a problem. The US hasn't reached that point yet.

Its true that demand drives supply. But with drugs its also a bit more different and complex than with other products, since its addictive.
A large presence of drugs in the us makes alot of people addicted and then creates a demand. Its not that the demand just came out of nowhere, but rather that the supply of drugs in us communities created demand.

Common and Oversimplifed argument. Drugs arent any normal product where only demand drives supply, drug is addictive, so a high presence of drugs in the us CREATES demand.

CNN is REALLY good when they do actual journalism like this. They should do more of this and less of those "round table" political panels they have these days.

The most American thing ever. Blane everyone else for the demand of a product…by Americans.
If Americans want to use drugs, the supply will happen.

Things were way better in the early 2000s when doctors atleast prescribed. They need to educate people but offer proper meds for pain. What else can we do at this point?

You're right the cartels would simply stop trying to make money if there wasn't any addicts in America, cause that's only where they are. Should we blame the homeless addicts in America for all the disappearances and murders in Mexico too?

I haven't seen Isobel Yeung's reports before but this was the kind of journalism the world needs more of. Telling the story from many perspectives: the military, talking to narco-trafficker, and connecting with victim, Vivian Aispuro's family. Stay safe.

Instead it'd be something else. Basic supply and demand, neither is to blame. If there was nobody to produce it, in theory drug use would stop.

@dynagaming2693 that's not entirely backed up by the data. The war on drugs has been costly, ineffective, and harmed marginalized communities. Look at Portugal or any other country who has adopted the decriminalization of use, addiction rates dropped significantly. Treat it like a health issue and the nerfs the supply. It's not just some other drug, because we'd be treating all addiction.

Their consumers are created by doctors and hospitals, who hand and push these same drugs in patients. The only unsafe thing about the drug is how it's made and incorrect dosages. Even cocaine was medical before it got banned, although it's still sometimes used in medicine. Coca cola was firstly a medicine, not a soft drink.
"about 80 percent of people who used heroin first misused prescription opioids." - NIH NIDA
Do you realise how insane this is? And that's just heroin, how many on lean or something else? The problem isn't the user or the gangs, it's how we handle them ourselves, allowing big pharma to profit and when they get hooked, saying" oh no, we better take them away"and throwing them to the street. They're no different, they just control the law in their favour. How many of those drug dealers have ever been treated the way a cartel has after the fentanyl epidemic? We still hand it out in hospitals, works great. Who got punished for the oxycotin epidemic? They handed them out like candy as an everyday cure all, millions hooked.
They created this war, just so you'd all keep paying for it. It's far easier than actually helping the users and addicts, that requires a facility just for them. By paying for this war, you can also pay for the one over oil too and they'll bundle it all up for you, like it's a little present for the American public. When did you ever get a car full of free gas for all those tax dollars you spent fighting in the middle East?
Let's not even get started talking about how upset USA was over the taliban wanting to destroy all the poppy fields lol.

    • @TheDavidDubePatrol
      @TheDavidDubePatrol 10 months ago

@Tiramisobaoexactly, these aren't "street drugs", they're medical drugs sold on the street. People are given small safe doses of the correct and clean drug, with safe equipment and knowledge. People mistake this for handing out or selling drugs to these people legally, rather than a controlled amount. We treat alcoholics this way, yet no other users. You walk into an alcohol addiction centre and they're walking around handing out cans to patients each day. It won't stop the sale of street drugs but it would absolutely destroy things like cartel production, making the fight not only a little easier, but a lot safer.
