You can take the boy out of Glasgow, but you can't take Glasgow out of the boy.

These photos have so much atmosphere about them. It's revealing to study the people closely. Those about to go on holiday in the photo at 8.00 seldom get away from home and they are naturally happy and good-natured here. I'm about the right age to belong in that picture, and I still remember the excitement of going away on a long train journey. By contrast, the following photo of the two men slumped on the ground at the Broomielaw is particularly sad. Did they ever in happier days get the chance to go on a holiday?

I hope the two men at the Broomielaw were dreaming of happier times.

These photos were before we had homeless people…most British people had homes then…

That’s not true, there was lots of homeless back then too, you just didn’t see them sleeping rough, they went to “models” like the Great Eastern and the Bellgrove hotel to sleep….

The is before Maggie Thatcher sold off all the council houses. Now if you get a council house within 12 year you've a friend in a high place.

@@2wittysue535also stopped people getting a months rent and deposit up front. It meant that if you found a place then you could house yourself.

If you look closely at the picture of the Clyde with the boat in it ,you will see two homeless souls lying sleeping.

As much as i look back at these times with nostalgia you did see a lot of sad sights - Very poor people who clearly lived in models and a lot of people with disfigurements - I will never forget the day i saw two men go into a shop and one of them looked exactly like the man in the film The Elephant Man - The poor man
