I went through some serious depression from 15-19 years old. I dropped out of school at 15 to try to get my GED early and go off to community college but instead slacked off, got lazy, and stopped studying. I got addicted to video games and lost all my friends over time. I lost a lot of weight and looked almost anorexic at 6 feet 115 lbs. Also got a lot of acne and my health was shit. It got to the point where I was too scared to even leave the house. I got super comfortable at home, I got complacent, and stopped progressing in life. That's when the depression was worst - when I wasn't moving forward. I was unemployed until I hit 19 so I had no money and started feeling behind in life. I had nothing of value to myself or other people. The future looked dark and hopeless. I often thought about suicide. Then one day I got a job without really thinking about it or trying to motivate myself to get one. Like I would do in the past. Not gonna lie, that job was pretty shitty. It was at a tire shop, lots of manual labor, slightly above minimum wage. I hated the time I spent working there, but I felt super proud and motivated deep down just knowing that I was moving forward. And my depression ended. I felt like I could move forward even more by working out every day before work. And started studying for a career after work. Joe Rogan's right when he says that discipline leads to more discipline. There's no way I could've gone from suicidal depression to immediately working out, eating right, sleeping well, hold a 9-5, and study for a career, with no free time or social life. Take it one step at a time. Push your limits. It may suck in the moment, but it's deeply rewarding in the long-term.

Puff Ball Very true, but I will say that it’s a sign of weakness because it shows that you have no self control to the point where you have to remove it. I would say its better to play video games in moderation for 1-2 hours or less possible 3 days week.... and being able to turn it off once your time is ups. Escapism is really good for mental health, but not when you’re obsessively doing it. Same goes for sex, weed, alcohol, partying....
Learn to enjoy the uncomfortable, that was the key for me. It's just so good for mental and physical health, and when you DO in fact have those moments of comfort, it's just 100x more magical!
This is as straight forward as it should be. I wake up at 4:30am drive 45min. to work, 6:00am-1:30pm drive 30 min. to my next job from 2:00pm - 10:30pm then drive back home to my wife and newborn baby. Shower, eat sleep, hug my baby and repeat (Mon-Fri). You may not think you can do it but trust me, when you stop caring about what you think you can or cannot do you can go far and make it work. Its crazy how just doing something for the sake of necessity or survival or for something or someone you care about can make you do. That old saying, "Whether you think you can or you think you cant, youre right" the way I see it is. Dont even fucking think about it. JUST DO IT.
But if u have zero talent, never get any luck, and brought up pretty poor, don't know anybody whos willing to help....then what. Ur just existing and unfortunately that's most people, don't matter how hard ya work or what u do. Straight facts 💯
Thanks for the video: I fall prey to just sitting and trying to get motivated without actually doing anything lots of times! It's hard to make real change, because it takes prolonged effort of doing something, not just sporadic fits.
Exercise, work opportunities, breaking old patterns, it is amazing what some of these voices (like Joe) can inspire you to do. To take control of your life as best you can and to be a good person
Comparing will power and self disicpline to inspiration is like comparing diesel fuel to nuclear power. I wasted a lifetime learning this the hard way.
@Rhythms Of Grace I felt I had no career path option but business school. I got a degree only to take a psychiatric test and find out that out of 500 things ...business was number 500. Number 1 was photography. At twelve years old I started taking pictures and developing them in labs on military bases all over the world. But being a photographer was a ridiculous pipe dream. I had to pursue business instead. Business school was energized by undiluted self discipline and will power and time went by very slow. I was inspired and prolific with photography and time passed by very fast. I am constantly asking myself what abberation of nature compelled me to do what I hate most?
Luck is minimized when you increase sample size by working on your craft every day. When its a 1 in 10k chance and you show up 10k hours... its much more likely.
the thing is that joe enjoys working out. i enjoy running. other people find no enjoyment out of physical activity so they stop doing it. you just cant go against that unless there is something you psychologically get out of while you're doing it.
I worked really hard in school and started from scratch and proved to myself I could push my mind. I need to work on balancing it with my body more. I'm really lacking that type of motivation.
@kaleel clark I think some of it has to do with how people are raised and what behaviors they're exposed to. Working out for me is just kinda boring, but I like activities that have goals like martial arts. Also, I never grew up with dietary restrictions, and change something like cooking all my meals everyday is such a mental roadblock for me.
I can attest to this! Even though I’m never going to be a big “RUclipsr” I genuinely enjoy making videos that I think people might like. With each video, through the process, I always learn something new. Whatever your hobby is just keep going! You never know where it might lead you 👍🏽
People do need to spread the idea of setting goals and being productive towards those goals for self satisfaction, but this idea that you need to always be doing something is kind of ridiculous. Americans work hundreds of more hours per year than any other country. 70 Percent of American children live in households where all adults are employed, and are just left by themselves to be raised at school or by peers. Im not saying you shouldn't strive to be a hard worker and try to make something out of life because you should, but people need to slow the fuck down with this idea that you should be working 50 hours a week, never sleeping, and running yourself into the ground. People need sleep. People need leisure to be healthy too, and it feels like every year every second of that stuff is being more and more stigmatized.
i started some learning year back, i am in middle of it and right now i have been stuck for few months i don't know what i should do now. I ain't giving up. It can only last so long.
Everybody wants to do something. Whatever we end up doing is what matters. When we smoke a cigarette, get high, search RUclips for stupid videos, talk about it, just talk, talk about someone else, work, clean, exercise, eat, or do nothing, these are all ways we fulfill the act of doing something. So then you have to take that motivation, and put it into something positive. Figure out what you really want to do, and work toward that every day. This is how we grow and succeed.
You should go deeper on this topic; talk more about all the fake motivational speakers/gurus that never had a business and teach how to build one. What a scam
"Do it. Just do it. Don't let your dreams be dreams. Yesterday you said tomorrow. So just do it. Make your dreams come true. Just do it. Some people dream of success. While you're gonna wake up and work hard at it. Nothing is impossible. You should get to the point. Where anyone else would quit. And you're not going to stop there. No, what are you waiting for? Do it. Just do it. Yes you can. Just do it. If you're tired of starting over, stop giving up." - Joe Rogan
That's not necessarily true for all things. Some of the best at what do can't teach for shit. And some of the best teachers of a thing aren't always the best at the thing.

Amazingly my family worked hard to discourage/ prevent me from doing anything. Anything. I stumbled through life totally clueless until my late thirties. Thank God I wasn't able to get pregnant.
That's awful! If you don't mind me asking why didn't your parents allow you to do anything? Also I hope you found what you love now

@The Shitstorm Starter We'd be fine if they were having 2-3 kids, but it's more like 1.4-1.9, which is well below replacement. And the sad thing is, all of the intelligent women are being coerced into careers and letting all of the dumb shit welfare leeches have kids. So the birth rates of high quality women is even lower.

I also went to do something after seeing the video.I took a cold shower and today the wheather here is very cold. Small steps.
You have to do something that is your passion and makes a livable wage and not worry about people's opinions. I'm going to school to become a high school counselor, people laugh at my career choice but I don't care. I want to do something that I want to do so I can be happy. Being motivated and having a passion go hand and hand
I hope you become a good counselor for high schoolers. They need good people in their lives.
Mango hahaha you’re such a prick.
Roy Wood Jr. is awesome! I appreciate this message though, being that I recently started a comedy based RUclips channel. I stopped overthinking and started embracing my talents. It's not easy by any means; but neither is waking up every weekday to do someone else's bidding, knowing it won't do much in the grand scheme of things for you.

Ironically, It’s entirely possible this clip is gonna be used in the next couple “Joe Rogan motivation” videos
Why is that ironic
Exactly, listen to the person who climbed Mt. Everest and tells you can do it, not the guy who never climbed and says you can do it!!!
It took me a year and a half of listening to Joe go on and on about just doing it and learning from a bunch of different guests and I’m proud to say that I’m down 40lbs and counting. I appreciate this shit.

I've struggled with weight issues all my life, last year I was at my heaviest that I've ever been I was about 220, I was depressed going through a lot but one day I had enough I started fasting a lot lost a whole bunch of weight by fasting and playing basketball I am now at about 160 pounds, these past 3 months I've been working out everyday to tighten up my stomach and gain muscle it's been tough it hasn't been easy I honestly hate working out but I have to keep n doing it no matter how much I don't want to do it I discipline myself to work out everyday, if I can do it anyone can do it! I see my stomach getting lean I see some muscle definition in my arms chest and stomach it feels great, if anyone out there is thinking about quiting, don't! It's a struggle this is never easy, but nothing in this life that's easy is ever worth it, stay positive guys and keep fighting, God bless you guys 🙏
@@elizaz3627 I don't feel like working out at all bro everyday I hate it but I make myself do it there's times I want to quit yes but it's better to keep going bro trust me, I know it's hard I struggle with anxiety working out use to calm my anxiety down but it hardly does now I get frustrated but working out is worth it bro trust me don't give up, once you start seeing your body transform you will see that it is worth it, I'm anemic so it's a bit hard to work out but I don't go all out bro I do light work outs I curl a water bag 200 times after that I do 200 push ups after that I do 200 sit ups then I'm done, listen to your body bro don't push yourself too hard I would suggest doing light workouts everyday they work and you will become more confident.
The more energy you have the more your boss expects you to do...the more angry and depressed you get...the more you eat and drink and get high...the more you burn out and lose hope...vicious cycle...oh, and since you're no longer giving 110% and "have a bad attitude" you get fired....then your boss whines that he can't find good help...

It is so true you can listen to all the motivational stuff you want. It’s get out there and do it that matters

Learn to enjoy the uncomfortable, that was the key for me. It's just so good for mental and physical health, and when you DO in fact have those moments of comfort, it's just 100x more magical!
I feel like there is a missed opportunity by not having this conversation with Shia Labeouf.
Hahaha, who knows where that dude is right now? Lol, hopefully getting some help...or maybe the Illuminati had to silence their MK ultra patient.

I agree with Joe Rogan here. But Joe Rogan caught his lucky break. He got lucky at the right time.
Luck is minimized when you increase sample size by working on your craft every day. When its a 1 in 10k chance and you show up 10k hours... its much more likely.
or you can sit on your fat ass and smoke weed and dmt all day
Luck is when preperation meets opportunity.

the thing is that joe enjoys working out. i enjoy running. other people find no enjoyment out of physical activity so they stop doing it. you just cant go against that unless there is something you psychologically get out of while you're doing it.
Do "Hot ones" Joe!😲DO IT!
Yooo! You should get tony robbins on the podcast
