  • Hi everyone, so good to be back after a nearly 3 month break!! I have LOADS of knitting to share with you! Sit back with a nice hot cup of tea/coffee, relax and enjoy the chat.
    I also continue my series looking at the ancient Irish alphabet, Ogham. We look at letters 6 to 10 and I talk about their connections with the natural world and trees.

    Nice to see you back, and remember you have no obligation to post on a regular schedule, just as you are so inspired to do so. Enjoyed learning about the Ogham letters and the trees they connect to... we have hawthorne, oak, and apples growing on our place in Texas... and I find them to be particularly magical here as well. Happy summer knitting and walking to you, Aine!

The soldotna really is one of the all time great patterns, it's a great fit on loads of different body shapes, it looks great in all the different colour combinations I've seen AND it's an entertaining knit with all the colourwork. It also helps to use up stash yarn... what's not to like:) Hope you have fun with it whenever you get round to it. Thanks again and chat soon.....

    Áine, your podcast was a delight for my eyes and ears from the get-go to the end. That green jumper is simply beautiful. I've been in a bit of a knitting slump myself and your video is as close as I've come to wanting to pick up my needles for months. Your content is so interesting to me. Ireland seems truly magical. One day... Also - way to go with knowing when to take a break!

      Ann, thank you so much for your lovely comments as always.....I am delighted to think that I might have helped you out of your knitting slump. Don't rush things though...these slumps are important and necessary for us to regain our energy and inspiration which return in their own good time (just like my podcasting break). You will come back to the knitting with enthusiasm when you're ready. As they say here 'when God made time, he made plenty of it' -an expression I turn to more and more, and the wisdom of which is only beginning to filter through to me in recent years.......

      Thanks Christine for your lovely comments. Great to hear that you're thinking of sewing some garments to go with your knitwear! I got my sewing machine out and dusted it down over the weekend and I've done some trial stitching. I've chosen a pattern and am ready to make a mock-up of it and I'll be near a fabric shop next weekend and hope to pick up some linen then. It will be great to experiment with making sewn clothes. Can't wait to see how it goes and hope to share some progress in my next podcast. In the meantime enjoy your knitting and sewing:)

    Thank you for another beautiful podcast. I love all of your garments and the colors are amazing. To think that I was so close to where you live! Ireland is beautiful and stunning. The people are so kind and friendly. I think that my favorite places were the Blarney castle, which was a lot of fun and I was proud to make it to the top. And the Cliffs of Moher which were absolutely stunning. The Dingle Peninsula and Kerry Co was lovely. Unfortunately, when you go on an organized tour, you only get to stop at places for a limited amount of time. But to me, organized trips and tour groups can give you ideas about where to visit if you return in the future, which I hope to do. Our bus driver was very informative about so much of the history of Ireland. there is not one area I didn’t like. And even in the cities like Dublin and Galway, everything was so clean compared to the US.

      Hi Joyce, it sounds like you had a really amazing trip. So glad you enjoyed it all. And as you say lots of food for thought on places to visit in future. It's lovely to get off the beaten track- if you hire a car or a camper van you can find beautiful beaches on the coast and lovely towns with great places to eat and drink. Hope you get to come back soon..

    Oil the sewing machine and change the needle! You can also use backstitch and sew the zipper in by hand. That's very historic! You will need a sturdy needle and a thimble and button or upholstery thread.

    Lovely podcast Aine and lovely to have you back .Glad you are feeling refreshed as its so easy to just reach burn out - it happens in this very busy world where we are constantly adding on more to our day to day tasks and never seemingly taking enough breaks or taking jobs away , just always trying to do more ....
    You certainly have been knitting and have achieved so much ,well done. My knitting doesn't stop in the summer months but the garden takes so much more of my time so the time available to knit has certainly diminished -not that we know much about summer here in my part of UK at the moment . Right now its black clouds and more rain . My folks in w Cork are getting some lovely days and usually they are the ones moaning about the rain!!- feels like the tables have turned .

    • @fraochknits
      @fraochknits  3 месяца назад

      It's good to hear I'm not the only one! It's something that happens more when I'm knitting with thicker yarn - like worsted, aran or bulky weights. If the gauge is off even one stitch with these weights it can increase the size a lot. I now know I have to allow for this so hopefully I can avoid disappointment in the future. Thanks so much for watching the video:). Happy knitting!!
