- For Nanaia Mahuta, the MP with the longest unbroken parliamentary tenure, it is over - a fact she accepts with grace and humour. Nanaia shares her reflections on the challenges and gains she faced in her 27 years - and how she handled both. Moana Maniapoto with this interview.
This was a delight to watch!
Credit where credit is due.
The fact that she was beaten by a young wahine just out of her teens is a strong message by the voters that it is time for a new generation of leaders.
The times are changing and we need unity for all Kiwis and Iwis.
Now our country can move forward thank God.
Thank God, Atua, Allah and Krishna!
What? Like a bunch of moronic lemmings over the NAT/ACT cliff.
Country now on course to move backwards
Thank you, Nanaia, for your excellent, meaningful service to Māori and all New Zealanders. You are an articulate, wise and inspirational wahine toa - kia kaha!
Ive not been a fan of the Maori Caucus, being Maori myself, but this was the best interview ive watched with Mrs Mahuta. The other thing is that she looks so well, the best ive ever seen her. Well done Mrs Mahuta, thankyou for your service and all the best with your future.
All the statements I hear from Maori is what they want for them selves not for New Zealand
Wouldn't it have been nice is Moana had treated other politicians (such as Winston Peters) with as much respect as she did Nanaia Mahuta? It's clear that she is completely biased.
Another racist comment
@@allanlaurenson3201 Check under your bed .
Keep your head in the sand my friend
That was a biased statement
🤣🤣@@allanlaurenson3201
She was more interested in seeing lucrative contracts go to her family than she was about advancing NZ as a whole. Good riddance.
Funny how 'there's nothing in the tank' when it suits. Jabcinda and her can go have more sneaky coffees together now
Unfortunately ms mahuta didn't have experience to be a political member.her remarks to Israel was a disgrace.and yes good ridens
The tragedy is that Jacinda's legacy is just starting..... Have you been following the World Health Organisation Pandemic Treaty? It won't be long until we're all required to submit to any drive for vaccination.... and the new government, just like Jacinda's rabble will endorse this 100%. @@jdrei5080
@@mecee328 didn't have experience? She's been an MP for 27 years
@@mecee328why? Israel in the true definition of an apartheid state in its treatment of Palestinians. Orthodox Jews are against Zionism for that very reason. It is against the Torah.
I’d love to know, why are so many maori disadvantaged and behind economically when there has been so many settlements? Is this money not being used to help and support their people???…..I think we all know the answer.
Educate yourself on the settlement process Maori get 3 % of what was stolen or fleeced from their ownership. Stop the ignorant bigotry
Absolute rubbish. Individual Maori didn't "own" anything. Some areas of land were held tribally until the neighbouring tribe came and kicked them out. Instances were tribal land was taken by the Crown have been adequately compensated for. And now Maori own businesses and commercial assets, pay no taxes on those assets, and still have their hand out. The "fleecing" is the other way around now champ. @@stephenlennon7369
@@stephenlennon7369 if only the folk at the bottom got %3 of corporate iwi's billion dollar hoardings...
@@stephenlennon7369 you know that’s BS. Because I know for a fact it is. My family has applied for grants and all kinds of assistance, knowing damn well what our iwi has received and we don’t see a cent. It’s the elite that get it, the greedy ones. 3.7 billion! Assets that are making money yet we don’t see a cent.
@Ru-zv7zviwi look after their members as much as they can. Do some research. The settlements per iwi member were tiny. Ngai tahu received $170 million for its 70,000 members That works out to $2500 each. They're living the life of Reilly. We pay superannuitants $1.5 billiion a month.
😅So happy to see the back of you kia ora and good luck
We are still lucky that her uncle and husband are on the board in the 3 waters crap.
Pity Nanaia Mahuta didn't represent all NZers
How so?
She did on the international stage
Moana's interviews were the best thing in this election cycle. No soundbites, no sensacionalism. Just great journalism, well prepared questions and empathetic follow ups. As someone who only discovered her these past few weeks, I've become a huge fan.
no .. i dont think so ..
She was appalling.
Worst foreign minister we ever had. Did jack all in the position and couldn't even give a proper comment about the situation in isreal at all. Tried to have an input between australia and china while and they just laughed at her.
For real.i agree.she was an embarrassment to NZ and thank goodness national are back in
@deneecimercy8402 couldn't agree more with you
Best foreign affairs minister ever so articulate and has a good brain
I wish you all the best Nanaia. Your whānau must be so proud of you. Your integrity, humility and aroha shines though this interview. Thank you for your service to Aotearoa.
Why wasn't she this articulate and interesting to listen to when she was foreign affairs minister? She spoke very well here.
She had Jacinda and then Chippy on her mind.
She was not fit for purpose. So had to go.
Mahoota the Loota... C'ya
She is an outstanding woman who has done so much for this nation. She has endured to much of there worst that politics can give, but remains steadfast and above there fray. An example of someone who has dedicated herself to the service of our nation and we are better for it.@Thank you.
Good riddance to bad rubbish
Thank you for giving a lot of your life to the country.
My daughter finished Gollege at 18 years old
I am glad it's time for you to come home and yes well said
I think it would be good to have more long-form interviews with Nanaia to explain to all New Zealanders the positive aspects of co-governance. I think she is articulate and highly skilled, and could offer a very intelligent voice to this much needed national conversation.
Heaps of those who are in the know and coined the phrase and its workings can’t give a simple definition, or explain it satisfactorily in plain language, even when pressed; any opposition to it is really just a foreshadow for re-constitution into a republic;
Fair. open and representative democracy is positive. Race based selection - apart from being totally undemocratic - will create more hatred. We as a nation do not need this. One country, one people, is the only way forward for us.
@@johnrualmond2176I agree - it has to be clarified what it means. I used to be Anglican growing up, and that church had a co-governance model (Pakeha, Maori, and Pasifika) and it worked very well. Obviously that is a small organisation compared to a nation, but I saw it could be done, and no one lost anything. I just think partly what went wrong was a lack of definition and clarity, and whenever that happens, people not only wonder why no definitions are forthcoming, but get fearful and opposed to it. We saw that this last weekend in Australia, when the PM kept refusing to define what the referendum meant. Not many want to vote for something that is not clarified. That doesn’t mean they are racist - most people are not racist. But people like to know what is what. That gives confidence and a sense of being in something together.
@@chrisblockley5783I am a huge supporter of democracy. But I do see how interest groups, sometimes race-based, can serve a purpose. For example in education the kohanga reo, kura, and wananga have helped reinvigorate the Maori language and culture. Or Catholic schools help Catholic people preserve their religious beliefs. Or children attending Japanese classes on Saturday mornings to keep up with their language. This translates broader to sometimes, due to cultural norms, some groups are best set to provide not just education, but health or training or rehabilitation services, etc.. A bit like how Act brought in charter schools. I can see this type of devolution can work, and be more tailored. So I could see how iwi-based solutions may work better for some things. However, I think there are limitations to how far this can go if the aim is to have cohesion, stability, and a positive sense of unity. Either way, more conversations need to be had, because this is where we are now as a nation. Ignoring it will not help.
@@SMD2308 “honesty is the best policy”, maxim; any organisation that lacks clarity is akin to secrecy; that’s always a red warning flag;
How do bow out with grace when a ten year old beats ya she seem to me anti maori good riddence
You know what I love my land New Zealand and my inventorys New Zealand NGARUAWAHIA Joanne
She has an aura of anger
Nanaias downfall is just symptomatic of the fact that people are more aware of how these kupapa have continued to play the people as fools; Jacinda ‘Horse Features’ was just one of many a casualty of such passive resistance to burgeoning arrogant and tyrannical authoritarianism;
No doubt ‘Nans’ will get some elitest accolade and status promo for her ‘services to Māori’ as well as a cushy job in the private sector, or consulting on some inane commercial governance entity; We sarcastically ‘wish her luck’; yeah,…nah;
I always hoped that the stories of how nasty some people are to public figures from the anonymity of the internet, was exaggerated. And then I come on here & see people like you making such unnecessary comments about people - you can disagree with the policies, but being nasty (& sexist? & racist?) does nothing to make anyone's lives better, public or private.
Here's a choice, if you have nothing positive to say about a person/subject, either in support or as an alternative, why bother?
Wat an you think you can do better go do wat she did c if you cn do the job artless she got in to parliament to serve our country eat your fellas arse out an see wats next lol😅😅
@@Rr-ri4oi free speech is always necessary and what is necessary is always right; we don’t hate her, we just don’t like what her and others of that ilk have and continue to do to the people of this land; either way, if she was indeed the agent of change that persons in power laud her as being, then why did she get the boot?; obviously, the people clearly had enough of her shenanigans, even though they still voted in some other schmuck, however ignorance is bliss and we can be our own worst enemy; a severe case of ‘the blind leading the blind’;
@@cynthiasamuels7338 just because we could doesn’t mean we would; either way,…Nanaias gone on to ‘better’ things, whatever that really means;
So many different spaces including her family being given positions within the 3waters.
Yeah ability at failing your papers with that first degree, to then to do another one that only applies to one cultural aspect. Corrupt as.
Labor failed to deliver, you promised a lot and delivered very little. You removed our freedom of choice and for that reason and that reason only many I know voted on the right. Labor did this to themselves.
Yea stop co governance sick of this indigenous stuff get over it and move on like the rest of the country, that why your out of Government Nanaia Mahuta
I think Nania is a good person however she talks about listening to ''THE PEOPLE'' but only the ones she wants to hear from, 10% or less of the population, this won't win against the 90% that disagree. I hear what YOU are saying but it isn't what MANY including a sizeable proportion of Maori are wanting. I'm not saying give up but with about 200 different cultures now residing in Auckland alone are you jousting at windmills?
Much aroha to you and your family Nanaia. .
All these Maori politicians and media outlets really underestimated what was happening in our Maori communities! There is a Movement happening where we no longer believe in the two main parties and are beginning to believe in our own people. 70% of Maori voters are under the age of 40! And 40% of them are under 25 as Hana said the Kohanga reo, Kura Kaupapa generation! Get on board or get out of the way!
Funny how all of them are half cast and completely ignore the Pakeha in them
That said and done, nobody is watching the gates.the silent coup is happening here,and kiwi people are none the wiser
Did you murder my children

Nanaia is a good advocate for Maori. Though as former Minister of Local & Foreign Affairs I was disappointed she didn’t have much to say or appear interested in the success of the greater community.
As a member of parliament she is supposed to be a good advocate for everyone.
