    The real question is:WHY ISNT THERE A SUBWAY TO CONNECT STATEN ISLAND TO THE REST OF THE CITY YET

    • @TheRailLeaguer
      @TheRailLeaguer 5 лет назад +10

      Georgianna Dean Maybe political opposition from residential areas of the Island (noise and traffic concerns). The existing bus service and ferry should do.

      The bay bed under the Verrazano, the most logical place to put a subway tunnel between SI and any of the other boros, is owned by the Port Authority, not MTA. (It's the same reason only PATH goes under the river from Manhattan to NJ) MTA would have to negotiate a lease, which would only further fill the coffers of the Port Authority.

    • @TheRailLeaguer
      @TheRailLeaguer 5 лет назад +2

      Bob Jersey The other question in regards to a subway in SI is where would the alignment be located.

      @Long Schnozzed Tribesman Bus service should be expanded to accommodate more crowds and divert passengers to the 86th Street subway stop.

    • @VinceHere98
      @VinceHere98 9 лет назад +1

      What? Because they don't have platform doors?

    • @tsaience1
      @tsaience1 9 лет назад +12

      ***** Many reasons. Ridiculously late trains, delayed trains, lack of coordination between transfer trains (as your doors open, the transfer train doors across the platform just close and take off). Seeing sleeping MTA workers on the clock. Also their lack of ability to hammer out a sound budget and the raising of fares without any improvements. Platform doors would be nice though.

    SF, a much smaller urban city, has taken 7 years to build a Central Subway that's only 1.7 miles long. They paid $10 billion for replacing part of the East Bay Bridge and that took over 10 years to build. If the city is building it expect it to take forever.

    For the question: What was here before ? People would like to hear answers like: bomb shells and shelters, artifacts, arrows, shields, animal skeletons, old cemeteries, old house structures, big trees, buckets, caskets, old rails, etc., like those found in Berlin at diggings, at Istanbul and Ankara where they built museums with items inside the stations, and so on ... !

    The same thing happened in Vancouver when the Canada Line to Richmond and the airport was built. Everyone thought the tunnel would be built using a tunneling machine, but instead they used the "cut and cover" method, disrupting businesses along Cambie street. A tunneling machine was used for the underwater segment and the downtown core.

    2 billion dollars for that? a mere 2,2 miles of the subway? I guess anywhere else people would smell corruption.
    And there is no direct subway line that runs from north to south from Queens to Brooklyn. Entire subway is built to feed Manhattan. That's a pity. No subway connection to Staten Island. Most of the cars are decades old The one I use A has coached that are from 1962. And people say New York is the unofficial capital of the world which can not properly maintain the main transportation source of its population.

      Raghunandan Reddy C Service connecting the outer boroughs directly would be better served by enhanced bus service.

    • @TheRailLeaguer
      @TheRailLeaguer 4 года назад

      pacboy I plan to rectify this with my new plans for a Queens Bypass and a new Northern Blvd subway, which would provide attractive alternatives to the Queens Blvd and Flushing Lines. With this, I am proposing replacing one or both of the Manhattan local services with full frequency G trains. Of the 24 trains, 12 would terminate at Bedford-Nostrand and the others will continue to Church Avenue.

    • @TheRailLeaguer
      @TheRailLeaguer 4 года назад

      pacboy The bypass plans have been revised from the original 1960’s plan. In my plan, I am proposing stops at 39th Street, 48th Street, 61st Street-Woodside, Grand Avenue, and 63rd Drive-Rego Park, all along the LIRR Right of way. The bypass would then shift over to Austin Street and then stop at Forest Hills-71st Avenue, and Kew Gardens-Lefferts Blvd before merging with the upper level Archer Avenue Line at Jamaica-Van Wyck. A station stop at Queens Blvd is under consideration.
      This would allow for more people to access the line.

    • @terrancelord5185

      I think they should just extend the g train along 125th street then expand the 2nd Avenue along 3av and throngs neck or put it on the concourse line and make another express track for the D train. Then with this extend it to bay plaza. But this can prove to be excellent since the g train could be extended to Manhattan you can have a train run to Lga.

  • @dumdum7786
    @dumdum7786 5 лет назад

    I just don't get why so many people live in such a small space, there's a lot of room in the US to live, I live in a very rural area and it's a lot better, you don't have to deal with traffic or any of that BS, and you get plenty of peace and quiet. No neighbors running their lawn mowers at 8 in the morning, no construction work happening down the street. And of course not to mention, it's MUCH less crowded. And you don't have to worry about trains and stuff to get you to where you're going. And also, the cost of living is a lot lower. The only real downside is that in rural areas, the power and internet is pretty unreliable and you have to wake up earlier to go to work.

    • @bakasheru
      @bakasheru 5 лет назад +1

      *laughs* so the come all living in your rural neighborhood and then you complain about all these rowdy city folk living in your area "why do they have to come here!? can't they live in cities or something?"

    bring back the V and 9 and put the 2nd av T line

    • @TheRailLeaguer
      @TheRailLeaguer 5 лет назад

      Luz Pavas The T will come in phase 3 of the Second Avenue Subway. As for the V, I plan to bring it back as the Culver express variant of the F. This will require the M to move to the 8th Avenue Line using a new connection between the Nassau Line and the 8th Avenue Line.
      With another connection between the Broadway Line and the Fulton Street Line Local tracks, The R would run between Astoria-Ditmars and Euclid Avenue with an increased frequency (15 trains per hour). With an extension of the Astoria Line to the LaGuardia Airport, and a new Subway connecting to the Jamaica El at Cypress Hills (the Elevated between these two points would be demolished), another 10-12 trains would be added to the R line, with another Astoria service, the W, taking the Jamaica Line to Jamaica Center. J service would terminate at Broadway Junction, with all Z train trips operating as J train trips. In addition, J service would also extend to 95th Street. To replace direct access between the Jamaica Avenue El stops and the Nassau Street Line, I am proposing an increase in service on the M15 bus.
