Your conclusion is spot on. Active track in open areas for best results. I don’t use active track very often, but with both the Mini 3 Pro and Air 3 I have had acceptable outcomes. Thanks for this test, buddy.

Hi Marcus, thanks for this video, very interesting. I have seen a tracking test video where the Air 3 APAS failed and the Air 3 ended up crashing into a tree. Thin branches and wires are the problem. The Air 3 needs to always see the object being tracked. If the Air 3 had controller GPS tracking like the Skydio beacon, the tracking results would have been 100% perfect.
When it's comes to tracking and avoiding, the Skydio 2 is still amazing. When it comes to anything else, stick with the Mavic 3 Pro. Great testing Marcus, and thanks for sharing.
Definitely true skydio 2 is God-Tier and its really not even fair, nothing is in its league when it comes to tracking and obstacles avoidance. I would put dji in top-tier. Skydio is 👽 tech when it comes to tracking and OA. Dji God-tier everything else.
Hi, thanks for the video. I'd like to ask for your opinion. I tried using Active Track with my bike, but it seemed like it couldn't keep up when I was riding at speeds of 20-25 km/h. Did I do something wrong? Is there a specific setup that can keep up with a 'normal' speed?
I didn't figure the M3P would do as good as the Skydio at tracking, but I thought it would do about the same as the A3. However, I know the M3P isn't really a tracking drone as much as it is for pictures. Thanks for sharing!
Well you not hitting the go button answered one question I had about the tracking . Some of the shots I want is for the drone to be stationary as I drive by . Did not want it to follow since that would mess up the shot I was going after .
Hi Marcus....You gave it for what it's worth. Myself I have no use for active track. Spotlight mode is a great tool. Especially around cell phone towers......😂😂
It seems it doesn’t like taking sharp corners when it’s further away from you as all of a sudden your directions changed and put it way out of position especially if the corner is going around an obstruction which masks you from it. It’s about time that DJ I took a leaf out of the third-party apps books and put a follow me mould to the remote.

Of you haven't seen DC Rainmaker's Air 3 Tracking, he really got some great Bike Tracking. I find it's not fond of High Sun Angles and Bright Sun (filters don't appear to help. The Mavic 3 Pro does well! Next time, can you try sliding your finger left from center of the direction compass? Not obvious but it put it in Parallel Mode, and it will hold position from drone like its glued there. No trying to attain front/left/trear/diagonal positions. Just like glue. PRO glue! 😉
DJI really needs to further update the mavic 3 pro. It has been a long time since real good updates were delivered by DJI. Thought the mavic 3 pro would really exceed the performance compared to the other drones.....i am sure DJI can do better so now we are all waiting for the actions on updates!
DJI active tracking is lacking... Its the AI algorithm just not up to par. I have the M3 and agreed with you tracking car is better. Lets see if the next generation of the Mavic series provide a more sophisticated advance Active track.... P.S. Marcus! I'm not sure if you hear this enough but let me just say to be operating the M3P, while driving a large SUV with 3 camera setups! made it look easy! also your editing skills are elite. Very impressive!!!
Interesting test, but it has soooo many other positive performance aspect, notwithstanding the superior camera. Strange how it continues not to score on those precision landings. FYI, my Mavic 3 performs precision landings spot on. Oh well. Thanks for sharing.
Every poor tracking performance High Sun and Active Track 5.0 Every failure to track well has a time of day btween 11am and 4pm. - can you confirm time of day? Just curious. Higher altitude tracking seems much better when I use the 3x/70mm camera. Plus it looks awesome!
Not sure what's so hard for it to resample the screen and try to detect another vehicle. I suppose there's always the danger that it traces another car. Problem with DJI is that it errs on the side of safety as it doesn't wanna screw up it monopoly on the consumer drone market.
Skydio without the beacon is worst than Mavic 3. Visual tracking is the best in DJI drones. The problem is only the miss of a beacon device. But it is coming soon.

That's really sad, a $3000 drone that doesn't pass such a simple test. The DJI Mini 3 Pro would have done it without any problems. Activ Track works great on the DJI Mini 3 Pro.

DJI drones for whatever reason struggle to track bicycles. I'm not sure why.

Yes, in spotlight mode the drone will track you without following.

Yes Mark, any time the drone was obscured the AI couldn't keep up. It was especially noticeable on turns.

I don't think my Mavic 3 Pro has ever hit a precision landing, while my Air 3 never misses. This drone is about way more than tracking, however. 😀
Its a bit disappointing for such an expensive drone.
DJI must do a good update for tracking mode.
