I was born and raised in Huntington and really enjoyed your tribute to our hometown! I'm sure most people think "if you're from WV, you must live in a holler where there ain't no runnin' water like The Deliverance...right?" Yeah...RIGHT! Thanks for the walk down memory lane and for bringing a proper perspective to a beautiful part of our West "By God" Virginia!
What wonderful memories you gave to me with this excellent presentation of our hometown. Thank you. I would love to have a hotdog from Stewart's. What a jewel of a city. I am 71 living in another town..I wish I could return to Huntington, WV..
I live in a different state now, but watching this video make realize just how much I miss my home town of Huntington, it brought a tear to my eye and brought back some good memories.
I have great memories of Gallipolis as well. Lovely village! I remember going there on a field trip while in the 6th grade, going to the "Our House" Museum.......Thanks for the compliment!
What a superbly crafted tribute to our city, where I've now lived for 51 years. You are a wonderfully talented photographer and videographer. Thank you so much for creating the highlight of my day. David Mills. Huntington, WV.
Thanks so much for this video - some very nice shots and great music. I was born in Huntington and lived there until I was 16 yo. My last visit to Huntington was in 2002, and I again walked past and through some of these same places. - Nancy
Very nice video. I was born there, my mom was born there, my grandparents were born there........Huntington is a big part of who I am. It's amazing to see pictures, and know exactly what they are of, exactly where they are and could tell you how to get there. Thanks for sharing. :)
Thank you for reminding me where I came from. We have traveled the world and I seemed to forgot what Huntington ment to me. I was too young to realize how amazing it was.
One of the best kept secretes in the Appalachians. Thanks for sharing “Our Hometown” with those of us whom no longer live there. We always long to return and visit our folks.
Being a Huntington native, I want to say, this is the most enjoyable video I have ever seen! Lots of memories. I am 72 years old and it made me feel like a kid again. Thank you so very much. Also, I would like to remind "EVERYONE" West Virginia is a state__we are NOT near Richmond or Roanoke..OR NEW YORK CITY! Thank Heaven....
Such a beautiful tribute to Huntington. I'm glad that you got a shot of the 20th St. Baptist Church. It is no longer there. And the Memorial Field House. It will be torn down in the near future. Thank you for the time you took to photograph and post the pictures.
Beautiful portrayal of Huntington, having grown up there when jobs were plentiful and the city was "alive and growing" during the 50's and early 60"s I was always proud to admit being one of the "herd". However, when I have come home in recent years it has broken my heart to see how much Huntington has changed. It is a ghost town of the city I knew. The empty houses and run-down conditions are deplorable. What happened to the city I knew and loved? No more industry, jobs or money...
Scottie, I am friends with Nancy C and am from Branchland and lived in Altizer. Thank you for this, it is beautiful! I also lived in South Point, what a small world. Londa
Thought is was wonderful! Our niece, Jill Tumpson Rawe, told us about it. The music made me cry! I've been in all the spots except the new bridge! Sarah Hardwick Bachrach
It's been so long since i've been there, 12 years long and i am now 20! I just realized how much i miss it that it hurts. One day i'll be back; till then i'll always have it in my heart
My folks are from here. Farms out of town. They met downtown in the 1940s when they rode the same bus to work. They would sometimes go to the drugstore soda fountain. My grandma was Alta Mae Tucker and she worked at the hospital. I've spent so many summers there as a child, it feels like a second home. My heart is there. I will always love Huntington, Ceredo, Kenova and surrounding areas. Oh, can't forget Camden Park! 🎢
I left in 1979. so I certainly imagine that a lot HAS changed since you've been there. I guess the important thing is that some things never change about "home", not so much in the buildings or neighborhoods, but the memories that we carry with us. May not look quite the same, but it's still home.
Hey everyone...This is Teresa! She was the inspiration behind my making this video. She and her husband just moved back to the Tri-State area last year, and I made this video as a little "Welcome Home" gift for her. So if you like the video, Thank Teresa! :-) Love you sweetie! Scott
As a 1970 grad of MU, and having grown up in Huntington with the same feeling you have expressed, I have always contended that the leadership of the city died that November night when the plane went down, and the quality of those who followed never reached that of those who could have been....Huntington has suffered over the years from an obvious lack of leaders with vision, and that is why it is in the shape it is in today. Folks tried hard, but just didn't have what it took to keep things up!
Great job on this...found it on Facebook, and it's going around very quickly. You are quite talented at putting these together, I saw your Keith Albee video the other day. Another good one to watch.
Florida is now my home, as it has been for the last 30 years...but it is nice to be able to return to good memories isn't it. Thank you so much for the comment!
Thanks Hiker! Yeah, the Olympic and the Dreamland complexes are now gone...but all in all Huntington looks pretty much the same. It's nice to be able to ALMOST relive the good times there. Now, I'm even happier that I chose this song too! :-)
This is the reason I made the video...for all us "old" Huntingtonians to have a chance to "go home" once again. As I stated before, the photos aren't mine...just ones I "googled" for Huntington. Thanks to all the photographers who took such great pics! Thank you for the comment!
Thank you MM! Actually, when searching photos online, I actually did look for suitable photos of the gallery, but could not find anything large enough to add to the video. I agree that it's yet another treasure that should be included.
@davidamills Thanks again David! I wish I could take credit for the photos....but they ALL came from the Internet with the exception of one or two. I had a lot of fun putting this together though..and the response was truly more than I had ever hoped for. Thank you and everyone for your comments...they certainly make my day!
I came to Marshall from the coal fields in the late 1950’s and immediately loved Huntington. I found a place I could be myself found my future wife, now of 60 years. Still missed the place.
I'm from Columbus (lived here my whole life), but used to spend my summers in Huntington. It's a great city, and I always love going there. A lot of my family, are Marshall grads, and I wanted to go there myself. I wish I could move there. As I write this, I have a craving for Stewarts Hot dogs. It's been a while since I've been there.
@alkolwv Well...when I was five...we moved to South Point and lived there till I moved away to Florida in 1979. Even though I was just across the river....Huntington still was home to me. Thank you for the very nice comment!!!
@bishopmarylouise1 I appreciate the fact that you show off both the pretty and the gritty. In the place you're raised, even the gritty stuff is nice to remember.
@ladyb003 Thank you for the vewry nice comments!!! Alas...I can't take credit for most of the photos...just ones I found on the Internet.....But a few are mine! :-) Yes...the old 20th Street Baptist Church I remember very well......my aunt and uncle went there. My cousin's wedding was there in 1966 and I remember it as one of the priettiest weddings I've ever gone to. And the Field House is going too??? OH...what memories there as well! Thank you again for the message!!! :-)
@userste Thanks for the nice comment!!! I've lived away from Huntington for over thirty years (Florida has been my home since). I know what you mean about Stewarts...LOL....the few times I've been back....it's the FIRST place I go..LOL Did you know they have a website? You can actually ORDER the hot dogs online....expensive...but they can "scratch that itch" for sure!..LOL
On a lighter note (Sorry, I ran out of characters)...your video compilation really does cast Hunt in the best possible light. It's a lovely vid. Congrats!
I love Huntington it’s a beautiful place I moved up here when I was seven and I’m 52 I would like tthe 70s me the 80s and 90s at Huntington West By God Virginia
@rsc0155 Now in St. Petersburg. Left in 1979 myself.......got tired of snow and cold..LOL. Haven't regretted that move...but I do miss Huntington at times....and DO miss the change of seasons. Huntington is such a nice place to have grown up in. :-)
@Scottiepoo5612 HI Scottiepoo, Yeah Marshall got both properties. I don't know when the field house is due to be torn down, but it is so sad to see it go. And the 20th st. Baptist Church was the first church I attended at 4 years old. Many memories, but we will always have them.
LOL..I didn't live in a "holler" until we moved to South Point when I was 5..LOL And yeah...runnin water and even indoor plumbin too! Who'd a thunk it! Thanks for the great comment!
@Scottiepoo5612 Where in Florida do you live? I left in 1977 and have live (existed) in Florida since. I recently went "home" and for the very first time I did not want to leave. Many occurrences attributed to this, however, "life" in Florida called me back but I am exploring returning to stay. BTW, GREAT production! Most of the sights I remembered but after so many years several escaped me.
What is that Tower looking thing I don't know what it is or where it is in Huntington it kind of scares me and what is that it's the one with the arches and the hole in the middle sitting by itself. But Huntington is beautiful.
I hopped in my Prius so homesick in Memphis and drove to Stewart’s, stayed in the Pullman and drove my butt back to Memphis. My family moved when I was seven but I am still from Huntington at 63.
Thank you so much! But I do have to say that the photos used here were all found on the internet, Can't take credit for any of them...except for my brother's photos of the house in which he used to live and the Peyton School where he went . I'm sure the true photographers of these photos thank you though. :-)
I have been to that Huntington bus station many of time. Looking for Larry Younger they said he worked in a bar I don't know I know that he's dead now and looking for his brother
Well...these days, there is 'shabby" pretty much whereever you look..LOL But if I had only shown the lovely neighborhoods, then the video would have been representative of any town in the US. Gotta call em as I see em. :-)
I am from Williamson West Virginia. I was born and raised there went to Williamson's High school where my father went to school all the downings are buried up in Williamson. I live close to Huntington when's it's not very far from Williamson. I now lived in Florida 4 years. I know a woman that lived here in Daytona Beach that move back to Huntington she had some huskies and she was a nurse at the clinic I went to I no longer go to that clinic for that medicine. n. I'm looking for a guy that's brother was named Larry Younger if anyone knows this man please let me hear from him I want to talk to him about his brother's death.
What a shame, my family is from Huntington going back generations. It's lately been overrun with drugs and gangs. The streets are getting meaner. My whole family has left, cousins, aunts, everyone. The city is losing its soul.
Not having lived in Huntington for over a half century...I sure couldn't answer that one. But in todays times.....I think "dangerous racism" is alive and well in most every town in America....so SAD to say. If some media outlet is portraying Huntington this way...I'd suggest they take a look around at any American city before making such a statement.
This is an endearing piece. Thank you very much.
We've been gone from Htgn. for 23 years and I still miss it. Thanks so much for the lovely tribute; the music is perfect.

@sharonanne116 Such a shame that is too. Seems like Huntington joins many cities where the lawless are taking over. I'm so sorry to hear this.
Well...these days, there is 'shabby" pretty much whereever you look..LOL
But if I had only shown the lovely neighborhoods, then the video would have been representative of any town in the US.
