I’m 22 and I’ve dislocated it 3 times in the span of about 4 months, I have hyper mobile joints and my left shoulder is especially loose. It sucks cause I want to weight train, but scared of getting hurt. Not so much my shoulder, but like dropping heavy weights on myself or something.

I dislocated it yesterday while playing football game. I bumped into the opposite player and it happened. This was my third time. The last time was two years ago. After less than 24 hours I put the sling off and I try to exercise with some easy motions. I think the worst idea is to keep it in a rest for a couple of weeks. Then the shoulder become very weak and the process of coming back to the previous shape is even longer.
Hi Bob and Brad…great video. I fell 2 weeks ago and dislocated right shoulder after landing on elbow. Emerg Dr. put me under and put back in. I live in country and with Covid going on hard to get to rehab. I’ll start with these exercises 🙏
Thanks for this information! Dislocated my shoulder July 12th, saw the orthopedist who told me just to keep it in the sling and not do a whole lot. 3 weeks later, I am calling and asking what else I should be doing and I'm told nothing. I'd already started some isometric exercises, simple stuff to work on range of motion. Thank you so much for this! I appreciate you guys!
How is the shoulder 4.5 months after the injury? I injured mine August 2 (got tackled on pavement by large attacker). Anterior. It popped back in on its own about 30 minutes later. Still hurts to sleep on it. Can't scratch my back. Has a gotcha point if I'm throwing an overhead/sidearm curveball position. Getting MRI tomorrow.
@@bigneiltoo I can only speak myself but I injured it June 30th, did pt for 3 months and I’m back to normal now. I torn my labrum and just focused on strengthening my rotator cuff and now I do everything like normal again including pull ups. Take pt serious if you want to get back to normal
@@Voseo00 Does the labrum ever heal? I heard it doesn't necessarily cause pain and the rotator cuff offers redundant function but needs to be strengthened.
@ depends on the tear and how well you can get blood flow to the region. The part of the labrum that attaches to the humorous can heal because that’s where the little blood flow is. Deeper tears are questionable. To get blood flow of course do physical therapy. Along with that I saw online that hot water helps blood flow which makes sense. So after your labrum strengthens to a degree and after your rotator cuff is stronger than before your should should be good like before except if you fall on it the labrum can be at risk.

Dislocated my shoulder today guy's it was bloody sore the ball joint was chipped came across your video will be trying some of the excersies brilliant video
I had multiple traumatic left anterior shoulder dislocations in my teens. Had to have the Open Bankart repair On the front side with ortho scopic work on the back of the shoulder, titanium screws all over the place. Like most teenagers I was dumb and didn’t take physical therapy advice seriously, outcome was an extremely stable shoulder joint with highly sacrificed range of motion even 20 years later. The surgery will make sure the shoulder never comes out again, but you have to do the physical therapy homework like these doctors are showing if you want your shoulder to look normal and be useful for sports or weightlifting afterwards
@@isaac1590 it’s a b*tch in my experience. Have it done during a time when you don’t have to worry about school or playing sports. It’s a part time job for several months to complete physical therapy properly. The day of the surgery was horrible as well. However, this is much better than going through the rest of life with a useless arm.
Dislocated my shoulder for the first time in a few years, it's my 5th dislocation. It got back into socket fairly easily, but I'm curious how long should I be in a sling
Very helpful, I have shoulder problems all of my life from an auto accident that messed my spine, neck and shoulder, to the extent that I had to learn to do activities with my left hand. I'm putting this in my 'like' folder. The rest of my body was messed up with sports accidents and falling off the roof, however I had to do manual work all of my life to support myself, I have so many wraps for body parts to hold me together, you would not believe, and wait until you get into old age, your mishaps come back to haunt you!! Don't take meds, just use cloves soaked in a jar of vegetable oil as a rub, and, just grit my teeth and keep on keeping on. Appreciate ever video you post for us
I've been living with recurring joint dislocations. Your story hits home. The griting your teeth part got me. Invest in a good bite/mouth guard. TMJ is a real TKO on the trimingal nerve & Sympathetic Chains up & down your spine. Stay strong warrior.
I've just dislocated my shoulder for the third time in about 30 years. The first time, I had my arm in a sling for six weeks. Now that I'm in my sixties, I'm glad that they only want me to use one for a fraction of that time. I've been going to a senior's exercise class since the beginning of the year. I'm wondering how long it will be until I can safely start going again, as long as I'm careful during the weight training and stretching.
I put my shoulder out again a couple of weeks ago. I think this was a subluxation, as I was able to pop it back in myself. At least I'm getting more creative with my dislocations. I put it out this time swinging a rake at a raccoon that was trying to attack my dog. I was home alone and the raccoon situation still needed to be dealt with, which is why I decided to deal with the shoulder myself. I've been discussing surgery with my doctor, as this floppy shoulder is getting to be annoying. Thanks for the exercise advice.
I just dislocated my shoulder at the gym due to my dumbbell taking my left arm too far back and popping my should out. I appreciate the video on some recommendations for pt type rehab for my shoulder. Do you have any recommendations as far as the RICE method? Should you ice then heat? What kind of duration for this? I’m 38 male. Thanks
I dislocated my left shoulder (inferior with un-displaced fracture of tuberosity) ten days ago. I am 56 and I can tell you that there is no way I could do without the sling. I have zero external rotation and it hurts like a bitch when I do a pendulum exercise - physio says no point in coming within four weeks on injury and referring family doc says keep sling for several more weeks. The injury wasn’t as painful as I expected, I was shocky at first and then stronger and stronger cramp/stiffness (I had a one hour boat ride back to shore followed by half hour drive to hospital but man, enthanox followed by penthrox inhaler and I felt nothing but stretching when they reduced the shoulder. The relief was immediate and incredible - before, I could almost not walk and afterwards, I could immediately stand up straight and walk without pain.
Did you recover fully? I had a mountain bike crash 2 weeks ago. A friend popped my shoulder back in right away. No break on x-ray but an MRI showed minimally impacted greater tuberosity fracture. Inferior dislocation suspected. I haven’t used the sling but the orthopedic surgeon basically wants me to just keep it immobile for a month. Ugh…sure seems like that is way too conservative since I have full range of motion and I can actually lift my arm vertically on its own. I stopped doing that following his advice though.
I dislocated my shoulder and elbow and both times I just started doing pushups until it hurt and I didn't have to have my arm in a sling for more than a week
These really work for me. Especially the empty the can and external rotation exercises. Shoulder pain goes away after a couple days of them consistently.

Hey don’t give up I know this isn’t the same but I had severe sciatica to a point I no longer could do ordinary things I couldn’t sit, I slept on the floor (hard surface for back) I couldn’t work the pain was intense 24-7 I tried everything and started to loose hope. After 3 miserable years one day my friend asked me to join him for a boxing session, I was able to move my arms and at this point I was desperate to try anything so I joined him and the next day I had weird tingling all over my body I was worried I fcked up my body but then the next day the pain was gone like magic I was blown away. I tried everything and no one suggested boxing lol i didn’t want to get surgery because i read so many comments about how it made it worst. My partner has your problem for many years without a solution so I’m just cruising threw comments to see what worked for others. Anyways don’t loose hope brother there’s always a cure.
Is it really necessary to put the dislocated hand in the sling back in 'L' shaped manner, as per instructions in the video for a span of 3 to 4 weeks for age less than 20 years?
Gonna put my situation out there hopefully I can get some advice. I dislocated my shoulder in 2017 and had dislocated my shoulder about 3 times from to early 2018. It dislocated on a no contact injury and I rehabbed it with no surgery and I was good up until this past December when it dislocated again after it felt its strongest. I am 25 now and is it worth it to rehab it on my own or get another surgery?

Hey guys, so I’ve had a reoccurring dislocated shoulder since I was 18. I’m 35 now and I’ve learned to keep it from dislocating by not doing certain activities. Now that I’m older tho, I still have shoulder subluxation and every now and then feel the sharp pain. Do you think surgery is needed or do you think these exercises would help me be able to throwing a ball and gets more active again?
Damn, reading these comments is more painful than when you dislocate it, it sounds like we are doomed for life now...I just dislocated it for the first time snowboading a month ago, did an xray before and after they put it back to place, I have no fractures but never went to see an orthopedic to check if my ligaments are good. 4 weeks later I can only lift my shoulder to 90 degrees, I assume that is normal for 4 weeks? Also, these 2 guys are awesome
Please 🙏🏽 if you have good insurance go see a ortho STAT. Please don’t wait like I did, 5th time dislocation / no insurance / have 3 ER visits (I got it back in myself twice.) If I had insurance I would go see the ortho or try to do exercises to strengthen my muscles to hopefully keep it in place. I’m just completely fucked now, it’s obvious as easily as mine comes out my ligaments are like a pretzel. You have only one injury so you should go now and get it taken care of. Goodluck!

I’ve dislocated my shoulder 3 times already, yesterday I recently dislocated it and I was kinda worried about not being to workout again but I think that as long as you can do a push-up your shoulder should be fine
I’m 22 and I’ve dislocated it 3 times in the span of about 4 months, I have hyper mobile joints and
my left shoulder is especially loose. It sucks cause I want to weight train, but scared of getting hurt. Not so much my shoulder, but like dropping heavy weights on myself or something.
@@angellopez5315 im 20 and dislocated like 20 times, lost count, had to stop skateboarding which i did for 7 years. It even dislocated 3 times in my sleep, watch out xd, not goin for sugery tho
What do you mean by if you can do a push up your shoulder is ok?
@@lillknapp93 how is it now?
My traumatic injury was sleeping on my arm and waking up with it all limp. It popped back in when i hanged on to a bus bar 😂😂
Love your videos! You're great and extremely helpful!

Did you end up recovering without surgery? I dislocated my shoulder for the first time about two weeks ago and now I'm about to start physical therapy
@@jakethesnake3439hey how are you doing now?
Thanks guys! Really appreciate it
I had multiple traumatic left anterior shoulder dislocations in my teens.
That’s what I’m gonna have what’s it like ?
Appreciate ever video you post for us
You're welcome! Thanks for the support!

Great advice! Best physical therapist!
I think this gonna work me cuz my shoulder dislocate forward so I'm gonna try this
Thank you❤
I just dislocated my shoulder at the gym due to my dumbbell taking my left arm too far back and popping my should out. Hello -
thank you for the dislocated shoulder - is there by chance the same tips for a dislocated HIP?
Thank you verry much doc
I stopped doing that following his advice though.
i literally dislocated my shoulder yesterday just waking up out of bed 😑
How the heck did you do that!!?
Same here man! Dislocated it 2 days ago waking up!

I dislocated my shoulder and elbow and both times I just started doing pushups until it hurt and I didn't have to have my arm in a sling for more than a week
These really work for me. Especially the empty the can and external rotation exercises. Shoulder pain goes away after a couple days of them consistently.

Thank you, sir! I come from China, I am a veteran, I have unstable shoulders and shoulders, I went to many hospitals, rehabilitation institutions, gyms, and hired coaches. They were very dark. I spent a lot of money, but they didn't cure me. I can't work, my relationship with my parents is broken, and I live a miserable and miserable life.
How are you doing now bro :(
Hey don’t give up I know this isn’t the same but I had severe sciatica to a point I no longer could do ordinary things I couldn’t sit, I slept on the floor (hard surface for back) I couldn’t work the pain was intense 24-7 I tried everything and started to loose hope.

Gonna put my situation out there hopefully I can get some advice. I dislocated my shoulder in 2017 and had dislocated my shoulder about 3 times from to early 2018. I got surgery in march of 2018 at 19 years old and I was good up until January 2021. It dislocated on a no contact injury and I rehabbed it with no surgery and I was good up until this past December when it dislocated again after it felt its strongest. I am 25 now and is it worth it to rehab it on my own or get another surgery?
Quick question Docs is is easier to dislocate a shoulder after a shoulder separation? Thanks 🙏
If theirs a sharp pain that follows through your arm all the way to one of your fingers something to worry about ? I have fractured the bone that connects to the shoulder and now dislocated after 10 years and after 5 days I had most of my strength but I’ve started more pt to get better but when I close my fist I have this numbing pain going down to my arms ring ringer.
I dislocated my right shoulder for the eighth time and then dislocated my left shoulder for the first time two days later. I can't put my two hands in a sling because I need to care for myself. I'm currently in a horrible position because there's no specialist to care for this kind of inquiry where I live.
Nice video,i dislocated my shoulder 2 times when i was punching (hook) and i'm 17...Do you think i can be back to sports
Mate I am 19, I dislocated my shoulder boxing twice as well, I was working out normally and I dislocated twice more, now it’s the 4 time I dislocate my shoulder. I would definitely do surgery if I was you, avoid more useless dislocations that are bound to happen.
I wasn’t to sure if I dislocated my shoulder, I was swimming made a quick panic movement and heard a pop, when I stood up my shoulder felt it dropped a bit I used my other arm and help pop it back in position it took about 2 weeks to get back full range of motion but still can’t lift weights with it

Talk to your doctor Nd get a MRI referal. MRI will tell you how bad the damage is internally and thrn go from there. Good luck!
5 days ago my shoulder had dislocated again in a fight now I m considering having surgery so that I can do fighting again
Whats ur suggestion sir
Goodluck!
