I cannot say just one favorite. In one interwiev Tuomas said that someone asked him 'why don't you write songs that heals a heart?' Well he has done that 😊
He has his genuine way of thinking and being himself without being changed because of fame and money...and naturally his awesome ability to make music and lyrics about life issues and feelings. He also says that he gets letters every now and then where people say that his music has saved their lives...and he answers that "good that I have been able to do some good and help other people".
My favorite thing, he had a Q & A about 2 years ago. you can look it up on you tube it's called: FAN Q&A - Tuomas Holopainen. A fan wrote and asked him his personal way of how to write a good song. His response was this: Be humble before the song, before the story you want to tell. Listen to how the song wants to be told. Be humble before it and execute. That was so powerful to me that I use that as my mantra and even had a tattoo done so that I would never forget.
Lol, that pronouncing was terrible on word Maan Mainiot. 🤣 All A letters are just that A. What makes it hard for English speaker must be second half that Mainiot. Anyway wasn't it cool to see How Tuomas said that he's dream is to make music based on Scrooge McDuck someday? Some self-filling proficy there.

"Maan mainiot" (direct translation "the greats of the country") was a finnish doc series about some famous Finnish people, artists, politicians, etc. This Tuomas episode was done in 2006, so it was after firing Tarja, but before releasing "Dark passion play". So Tuomas had been living some rough times when they were filming this. And there were some big uncertainties with the future of Nightwish that time. I think you can kind of see all that in Tuomas, when you look at him in this doc.
Tuomas is a intresting person to me, this humble nature loving guy, who basicly is a bit withdrawn with some stuff, but also share a lot, he feel hes suroundings strong, and make impact where he is, so its a very ordinary guy, that got some very mysterious feautres at same time, becoming a poet, and creating a band like Nightwish, so i do feel Tuomas got a special gift, he is one of a kind, that got these unique ways of making music and poetry, you do feel like he is hitting the core of something, you should listen to..
I love the fact that here he is, in one of the darkest periods of his life (though on the way up again), surrounded and supported by his friends and family. Dark Passion Play wasn't finished yet, Anette hadn't joined; "The Escapist" was still in the future, with "Storytime" and "The Life and Times of Scrooge" even further out. It's painful to watch, but also contains the seeds of so much hope, especially watching it now, knowing how much better things became for him. I think he will always be easily knocked, but he survives and happiness comes around again. As the saying goes, "this too shall pass"...
Tuomas is not the only Disney fan... The weekly "Donald Duck" was, as far as I remember, the most subscribed weekly publication - among all possible - in the 70's. You really waited for Wednesday every week! When I was 6, both my godmother and my parents promised to make subscription for me for Christmas. They didn't know they both had made it, and I suddenly got two copies delivered to me. For some mix-up they both cancelled the subscription, and I had to wait for another year. The disappointment was huge, I can still remember it after 55 years... Well, I got a lesson the life doesn't always go like you want. I'm over it now 😁
I have some things in common with Tuomas. I loved Biology in school and ended up getting a Masters Degree in Biochemistry. I love science, I am an atheist and I love music. I am not great at empathy like Tuomas and Floor but have great regard for "artists" that do, they improve my life.

Tuomas was talking about wanting to write a soundtrack for the Disney book he showed. It took him 15 years from the initial idea to completion. If you haven't reacted to it yet, I don't think you have, please consider reacting to: TUOMAS HOLOPAINEN - A LIFETIME OF ADVENTURE (official video) from his 2014 (marginal, as he described it) solo project 'Music Inspired by the Life and Times of Scrooge' the graphic novel by Don Rosa, the storyteller/illustrator. Beautiful vocals by Johanna Kurkela, Tuomas' wife. Don Rosa is in the video, drawing. The album was recorded in London with an orchestra. Tuomas and Don Rosa had a 7,5 hour signing event in Tampere together after the album was released. Interesting and funny backround info about how they first met and so on: "Holopainen and Rosa interviewed by Radio Nova parts 1, 2 and 3" They are all short ones, just a few minutes each. There's also a new video "Once upon a time in Kitee" about Nightwish' history, told by Plamen Dimov, the godfather of Nightwish. Nightwish owes him a lot. He is a Bulgarian musican and a very wise music teacher. His band came to play in Finland among other countries, and he fell in love with a Finn, and moved to Kitee in 1980's. He knew Tuomas, Tarja, Jukka and Emppu well before Nightwish. Young Tuomas played the saxofone in Plamen's jazz band. There's a funny story about Plamen singing a love duet with young Tarja.
this docu is around the time that he wrote the album Dark Passion Play which he wrote to deal with his severe depression resulting in the poet and the pendulum and other songs that dealt with Tarja leaving note how he is never alone brothers parents even the camera man is with him
Thank you so much for reacting to this. I'd never have found it on my own. Really enjoyed sharing it with you. I'm glad you brought up how knowing more about Tuomas' personality explained the letter to Tarja (made more sense how he handled it). In two YT videos I've watched about Finnish culture, they've mentioned people leaving notes rather than talking to neighbors about a behavior they didn't like. The situation with Tarja was much more personal, but if it is sometimes difficult for Finnish people to be "confrontational" and Tuomas has a tendency to "escape"...
You should definitely react to the end of innocence documentary. It's a great look into the early years of the band before Tarjas departure. There is a sub version on youtube.
There is also very nice document about of course from nightwish partly, but broader, the story of small town, and the music scene: ruclips.net/video/igEUeuOoQE8/видео.html You get the picture about the surroundings where Tuomas and the band started their trip, places, music life and people that impacted on the way.

Dead Boys Poem:
I live no more to shame, nor me, nor you
I'm sorry
Born from silence, silence full of it
A perfect concert, my best friend
So much to live for, so much to die for
If only my heart had a home
Sing what you can't say
Forget what you can't play
Hasten to drown into beautiful eyes
Walk within my poetry, this dying music
My love letter to nobody
Never sigh for better world
It's already composed, played and told
Every thought, the music I write
Everything, a wish for the night
Wrote for the eclipse, wrote for the virgin
Died for the beauty, the one in the garden
Created a kingdom, reached for the wisdom
Failed in becoming a god
Never sigh for better world
It's already composed, played and told
Every thought, the music I write
Everything, a wish for the night
If you read this line
Remember not the hand that wrote it
Remember only the verse
Songmaker's cry, the one without tears
For I've given this its strength
And it has become my only strength
Comforting home, mother's lap, chance for immortality
Where being wanted became a thrill I never knew
The sweet piano writing down my life
Teach me passion, for I fear it's gone
Show me love, hold the lorn
So much more I wanted to give to the ones who love me
I'm sorry
Time will tell, this bitter farewell
I live no more to shame, nor me, nor you
And you
I wish I didn't feel for you anymore
A lonely soul
An ocean soul
A lonely soul
An ocean soul
So much more I wanted to give to the ones who love me
Time will tell
A lonely soul
An ocean soul
A lonely soul
An ocean soul
