Your seqment on #1 was very moving. And at a time when it seems like they are making huge strides in destroying all the progress we've made over the decades, your optimism gave me hope that they won't win.

Your last segment was incredible! I had never thought of that song as the #1 of the era but I will now never think of any other song as the #!. Thank You.

The end of this video made me cry. I was first introduced to that Sam Cooke song when I was in the hospital in an inpatient program for major depression in 2017. A girl who I bonded with in the program played it for us because it was the song that kept her alive. I think about her often and wonder how she is doing.
As for me, I struggle with a lot of health issues - mental and physical - and that song continues to help me through.
What you said is so beautiful - we need hope to get through racism, homophobia, xenophobia, and all of the things that bring us down.
I’m so sorry about the mass shooting in Buffalo. Your hometown is a beautiful city (I visited back in 2013, 2018, and 2023) and hope to visit there again soon.

A while back your #1 song kept running in my head. I remembered part of the title, found the Sam Cooke version on YT, and played it several times in a row.
I think the country is running in reverse. One example is the hate-filled mass killing of 23 people by a young man who entered a Walmart in my city and killed 23 people. As soon as I heard that news I knew exactly the city he came from, his "religious" background, the reason why he traveled 600 miles rather than stay in his city, why he chose that particular Walmart, and who his targets were.
He's still sitting around in jail with no trial date set - one reason being that the state doesn't want to charge him.
