- New Touhou fangame came out yesterday and it's actually really good!
EIoS is a Chinese fangame that's been in development for quite some time. It had a really rough development cycle and apparently it's a miracle it even came out.
They changed the system and all the stages like three times or something.
Game looks gorgeous and the stage design is also really good and interesting. Easily one of the best Touhou fangames I've played and probably the best one on Steam now.
The stages are very dynamic because of the system, you're constantly doing something to get chains. The chains are very creative too, and every stage has totally unique ones.
The boss patterns are pretty fun too.

Basically there are two types of enemies, popcorn and big enemies with circles around them.
- Your unfocused shot can't hit any of the popcorn but your focused shot can.
- Enemies have three types of colors, red, green and blue.
- Killing big enemies while popcorn are in their circle will dye them into that color, kill them and then give you items of the same color.
Exception being white popcorn, they need to be dyed twice before they die.
- Red items are for lives, green items are for bombs and blue items are for score.
- Killing enemies through dyeing increases the dye chain count, which is the Last Spell unlock condition.
- On Lunatic popcorn will shoot extremely deadly revenge bullets if you try to kill them with just your focused shot.
Speaking of Last Spells, every stage except 6 has an extra spellcard at the end you can trigger by meeting the dye chain requirement for the stage.
The bottom right shows your total chain, the chain requirement for the current stage and the big number is the current stage chain.
Capturing the Last Spells gives you a lot of score but you don't lose a life or bomb if you fail them.
Reimu team is very good but stage 5 seems like an extreme problem for them. It's ridiculously hard to get the dye chain requirement, it's super tight and if you miss one of the bubble fairy cancels it's like impossible to recover.
Reimu team is like the worst shottype for this because the homing keeps messing you up.
The game has good practice options (boss, midboss, spellcard and nonspell practice), but it's a bit bare-bones for stages. Like no 'start from 2nd half' or anything like that.
Which is a bit frustrating when stage 5 second half is like the hardest thing in the game.
Stage 3 is kinda like Touhou 8 where the boss is one of the other teams you can choose at the start. With the Reimu team you fight the Mokou team.
Game is quite tough. Feels a lot harder than your standard Lunatic mode.
Bosses have a lot of dense RNG attacks and stages will destroy you if you don't route them properly.

Id like to imagine that in some world, it is not reimu or marisa, but reimu and marisa. You could pair them up and form the most iconic duo that has yet to be formed.
Chaos of Black Dragon actually has this, but it's pretty meh

Kaguya's final word was probably one of the coolest looking spells I've seen in any touhou game. This fangame in general has exceptionally pretty patterns (And exceptional difficulty too...)
Damn, this must be the most beautiful looking Touhou fangame I've ever seen. So smooth, colorful and indeed, elegant! Even the text dialogs make a sweet turn page sfx. That organ in the second boss theme makes it sound like a final boss theme. The remixes of ZUN's themes are pretty good too.
THAT STAGE 4 MAN. THE SMOOTHNESS! So colorful and elegant. Such delightful theme. Some songs have rare instruments as well.
The stage five was outstanding. I love music writing and traditional Japan style so it was Perfect to me. When the shamisen came in, chills went through my spine. Cherry blossoms and notes for attack? That girl is heavenly.
The final boss is gorgeous. That's it. Extremely beautiful and of course, elegant. So many frames dropped though lol
Yes this game can have massive slowdown during boss fights and if there are a lot of bullets, it eats a lot of ressources and it can drop to 30 fps on low hardware. Maybe it has been fixed since.

This game has the death-bomb time about 0.5 seconds for Reimu & Yukari (about 0.4 seconds for others).
It is way longer than the original Touhou and lot's of Touhou fangame, so you can even react after you get hit.
I always think that makes for a way superior game experience. Indeed in Touhou I always feel as though I should bomb whenever I'm threatened, rather than try to capture stuff like in many other bullet-hell games.
it's a lot longer in touhou 8 too and this game seems to be kind of inspired by that game as it also has the teams for pc's
@@-psilo-9071 Sadly touhou 8 only let's you react longer if you have at least 2 bombs and also uses 2.
I love that stage 5 boss, Jinguji Inori. Her cards are so wonderful and pretty (and absolutely lethal, that Izumo Sword Dance in 28:31 is scary!)

Nice stage 3 boss music. How it smoothly switches between moukous and keines songs. Also here a totally accurate tranlastion of what they said: "Ah... God dammit jaimers, why have you got to play that other team. Now we're stuck with these useless fancy spellcards and can't even move freely. And we both gained weight too and are now huge. Screw you Jaimeeeeeers!"

For me, The best scenary was the 3rd one until finale stage, especially 4th one by Hisoka's theme 😍😍

The visuals and gameplay look absolutely incredible, ill have to try this one out.
My only gripe is the music. It all sounds too much the same with the exception of the stage 4 boss.
Also that final spell is basically Virtue of Wind God on crack

I know that a lot of people dont like Shizuka as a final boss because she is known as a "jerk" for destroying where Ei lives and whatnot. But Imo I love more of the Evil antagonists more than the good guys in touhou tbh. They have so much more persona than people like Reimu or Kasen (The Mistake) . Anyways I actually like Shizuka is an amazing final boss and deserves her spot! I also really like Ei but Shizuka deserves more love imo!
Probably because most Touhou official "villains" isn't the stereotypical dark edgy,world conquering,lives-ruining type.Hell,Shizuka doesn't seem like a villainous goddess until you know her story.
@@explosivemodesonicmauricet1597 Well I understand she's not really a villain but she makes a really good stage 6 boss. Her theme is also phenomenal. I just dont really understand why everyone seems to hate her.
@@yatsuhashiwho Spoiler alert:She is the one "mind controlled" Mokou to kill a person who wants to burn the Hourai Medicine and eat it.Also she blew up a nearby mountain a bit because she wants to make sure her mountain is the highest,triggering anger from her older sister.

I know she destroyed a part of Yatsugatake mountains but thats all I really knew about her. But I have mixed opinions about Mokou so I still like Shizuka

Actually its Shizuka. Her and the extra stage boss arr based of off the Sakuya-Hime Legend. Where apparently Shizuka destroyed a part of Yatsugatake Mountains. Ei got mad at that and had to leave. Since they are both goddesses they lost faith and moved to gensokyo. I forgot to mention that they are both sisters

I noticed that there are 2 achievements associated with each difficulty. Does anyone know what they are? Perhaps one is clearing with credits and the other is a 1cc? Or maybe one is getting the 1cc with one pair and the other is getting the 1cc with all pairs?
On stage 4, with the procession of fairies flying around in circles, what is necessary to get the black fairy to spawn? It seems like there's something special you have to do.
Kill enough (pretty much all) the big fairies and leave enough green ones alive. With reimu you can pretty much just hold down shot and nofocus the entire section and you'll get it...just make sure you don't immediately kill it on accident!
What do you use for a controller for these? I've traditionally tried to just use a keyboard, but wanted to know what the consensus was form someone who is actually knowledgeable about what "should" be used for touhou games.
People have done insane things with keyboards, pads and arcade sticks. Just use what you're most comfortable with. I personally use a Sega Saturn pad.

Is it just me or does the spell card at 35:13 looks similar to len'ens twin crane spell card?
So does every Touhou game limit you with only 3 characters/teams to choose as for playing?
"limit?" to be fair there's only so much uniqueness you can give to a roster of shottypes before you start getting pairs that function the same or one that is overpowered (cough HSiFS)

@@kerob-sx6kx I like Shizuka, Ei, and Kaguya's themes but thats pretty much it. I mean I like the stage 6 theme too but other than that everything else is kinda mediocre. I hate the stage 5 boss theme tho. And I hate the stage 5 boss in general.
@@yatsuhashiwho agreed. Stage 3 boss is interesting. Stage 6 boss is nice. But the extra stage boss is fenomenal its almost like its made by a different person
