i liked the movie BUT i feel like it was too short, also the thing is that the movie starts with Kofi sayin she wanted to leave the island, not because of red cargo but because she wanted to see the world, even when she went to live with Deni she wanted to leave someday, it was her dream and at the end her reason to stay is her kid but that doesn't changes her dream... we didn't even get to see that, is she truly happy on the island? did she got to understand why Deni loved the island so much? just as far as we know she's now fearless of the red cargo's boss... her character was amazing but it remained superficial. Now what happened with the island? there's always the day after... the movie ends with Kofi telling her daugther a story about how things are different, I wanted to know :c they probably kept working for red cargo but not everyday, they just got a little bit of their time back to enjoy themselves on sundays. At the end they defeated the boss to earn that and Deni was the one who made that possible, not because he died but because he did the concert after being threatened.
Those are really good points. Thanks for bringing them. I feel like part of this movie is about the struggle for freedom and self determitation of traditional peoples from the global south (and the working class in general) against imperialism and about trying to restore a sense of community and individuality instead of the individualism and alienation that are imposed by capitalism. Kofi was oppresed and exploited in Guava and wanted to leave it looking for freedom. This particular scene where they sing This is America shows us that wherever there is capitalism there is exploitation, oppression and destruction, so leaving the Island wouldn't solve the problem. By the end of the movie, Kofi realizes that true freedom can only be achieved collectively and learns to love the Island and it's people. I like to think that the end of the movie was only the beginning of a revolution, where the people of Guava would organize and fight for complete liberation and dignity. That's just my interpretation though. I also wish they had more time to explore Kofi, she's such a great character. I see her as the pessimism of the intellect and Deni as the optimism of the will. Anyway, sorry about the long text, thanks for reading it, I hope all your dreams come true💚

The movie was confusing. The story was good but it felt like it couldn’t decide what genre it wanted to be. At times it felt like a drama, others it felt like a comedy. There’s nothing wrong with a dramatic comedy; however, this movie didn’t pull it off too well. Don’t get me wrong it’s still an excellent watch and I highly recommend it, I just saw some problems and didn’t know where else to voice them.
