I've snorkeled a few times using the same mask and I gotta say it's really fun. The only thing I see a con with these is that you have to make sure you don't swim too vigorously otherwise you're going to end up tired real quick because you'll be working your lungs more since you won't be able to breathe as freely as you would without the mask. My suggestion is to swim with gentle strokes and flap your feet, that way you aren't breathing as hard and not putting your lungs under too much pressure and you'll be able to snorkel for longer without getting tired too quickly. Also, you won't be able to go deeper than 3 feet underwater because the water pressure will make the mask stick to your face even harder and make it really uncomfortable but then again, these are meant for snorkeling, not scuba diving. Finally, make sure to know at what angle when you tilt your head backwards the air inlet stops air from coming in. Do this before you jump in to the water so you know how much you can tilt your head without getting surprised for lack of air in your mask.

A couple thoughts about that. 1) There are some brands on the market that have good airflow due to the design, which means you won't build up carbon dioxide in your mask. My suspicions are that the cheap knock off masks are the ones that cause issues because the design is not to the high standards of the more expensive masks. That's something for people to think about. Better to spend the money on a quality mask. Skip the cheap ones as it comes with compromised safety.... Not all full face masks are bad like the news would have you try to believe. 2) These masks are made for very leisure snorkeling, not for strenuous swimming or volatile waters. I have seen time and time again, people get in the water kicking like crazy and swimming fast in all kinds of masks (not just the full face mask)... and that is NOT what snorkeling is for, especially not in this type of mask. Snorkeling with these masks should only be done in calm waters (like shown in this video) and at a slow pace while floating on the water.
Hi Rey. Thats a good question. If you go under, water will not flood the mask because the snorkel is made so that the valve blocks out water from flooding it, even under water. (Water nor air will get through if submerged under water). BUT i should mention that these masks are not designed for going underwater in a dive - they are designed to snorkel as you float above the water. The mask is for casual snorkeling in water conditions similar to whats shown in the video, where the water is calm. I do go under the water with this mask only a few feet occasionally and its perfectly fine, but I try not to recommend it to others so they dont get the wrong the idea. (Because the mask is not really designed for diving)For those who enjoy free diving, a regular snorkel mask is best. Beginners typically dont free dive so usually a full face mask is perfectly fit for them to enjoy the water and observe the underwater life while floating.

Great you are trying something new. This mask is for snorkeling only, not diving. Snorkeling is meant just to swim on the surface. If you ever get into free diving where you dive many feet under water and hold your breath, the traditional snorkel gear are best suited for that.... You cannot breath underwater if the snorkel is submerged under the water. Only with scuba diving can you breath underwater.
DaphyD_Adventures The full face masks are lot easier to use and they dont leak. You just have to make sure you have the right size. I prefer them over regular snorkels now.
DaphyD_Adventures some are as low as $50 and they can be as high as 90. If you snorkel and travel a lot, it will save you in the long run to buy your own because you wont have to rent equiptment... plus rented equitment and the ones they have on tours are not very good. I snorkel from the beach when travel so ita convenient to have my own gear so I can snorkel whenever I want.. and not have to pay a tour to take me.

why this snorkel pipe is so short? longer could be better against small waves.Any explanation ? something with phisique ?or just for compact size? to fold it down better...I don't exactly remember but I thing I had much longer snorkel pipe and no problem with breathing at all.
Hi. It is not really short. It may seem shorter than the traditional snorkel because the snorkel extends from the mouth all the way up. A full face snorkel comes from the top. It is a dry top snorkel so water doesnt really come in through the top, it blocks water from coming in. Small waves are no big deal. If waves are constant and big, honestly one shouldnt be in the water snorkeling under those conditions. It could be unsafe no matter what gear you use.

Hi there. It is ok to ask. Technically, the full face snorkel masks are not made for any deep diving. I usually go no more than 6 feet with it and it is ok, but I do want to disclose that the snorkel masks are generally only for snorkeling near the water surface for safety reasons..... But to answer your question, if you were to dive down into the water with it, you do have to hold your breath. You wouldn't be able to breathe until you returned to the surface.
Ultralagger R.E.V Hi there. They were holding their breath because there is no way to get air from these masks under water. Many people practice freediving and they have learned to hold their breath for a long time under water... Please also be aware that diving with these masks is not recommended. It is recommended for surface snorkeling only, especially for beginners.
Ah i see. I understand the concern. I started using more "natural" soap that is paraben free, etc. You really only need a very little. The diving companies and snorkel tour companies also spray their masks with a bit of dish soap and they are environmentally conscious so I really dont think its harmful to the sea. If you have found any articles about research about that, I am open to reading them because I am also consious about keeping the seas, sealife and coral all safe from chemicals that can harm them in the long run. Or if you know better solutions (besides spit which really doesnt work) I am totally open to suggestions!

Anthony Smith It should suck to your face a little for a tight seal, since this seals out water, but it shouldnt get too much tighter on your face as you continue to breath. Some masks are better than others with ventaliation.
Hi Jessa, all masks have slightly different sizing. For the mask I am wearing, I have a L/XL. I find that most adults fit the larger sizes and the S/M is mostly for children or young adults.
Don’t like full face disadvantages out weigh advantages , To be honest these are for gilding on the surface not submerging most have no way of equalising ear pressure as you can’t pinch your nose . Plus the take up much more luggage space when travelling.

Not sure if it is a knock off but the masks have a lot of similarities. My favorite so far is the Tribord Snorkel which I reviewed on the channel also. I may get the Seaview 180 to test out. Have you tried the Seaview? I am also interested in the Area Full Face Snorkel for my next trip in December.
We just purchased the Seaview 180 and have yet to try it out. We will be going to Cancun in March and will do so then. I am not much of a snorkeler...lol as I do not want to bitten by a shark but I will try it out so we can maybe get some good shells at the beach. I will look at your other review...thanks. I didn't go with the Tribord because it said it was not a good mask to wear glasses with.
lol the likelyhood of you getting bitten by a shark is very slim, don't worry! Plus, in Cancun you will probably see lots of fish without having to go out in the water very far. There are at least 3 very good brands that are name brand which piloted these masks and they designed them so that there are no CO3 build-up. Many (not all) knock off companies are making cheap versions that aren't designed as carefully and people want cheap so they buy them. I have tried a few knock offs and they really are inferior. Not good if you want to go UNDER the water. You can't equalise because you can't pinch your nose. No other method works to equalise even if they tell you so. If it can be made with flex material around the nose it would be good.
Adam Baudelaire have you used one yet? The full face masks are best for those who snorkel primarily on the surface of the water. I dont go under more than 10 to 20 ft, I am not a diver by any means. I just never have issues with equalizing even when I do go dive 15 ft or so with the mask, so that is just my experience. I can always use another method to equalize, but usually at such a shallow depth, I dont really have an issue. But if someone finds equalizing an issue and they love to free dive a lot and at deeper depths, then of course the traditional snorkel mask should be used. Again, the full face masks are best for those who snorkel primarily on the surface of the water.

You can breath with nose and mouth with mask on while swimming just as I was swimming in video. (Not diving) Notice my head is in the water and snorkel is sticking out the water? That allows air in the mask so I can breath while swimming.
