I love how complimentary he is of Blake even though it sounds like Blake didn't care for working on "Lost Highway." David Lynch was really classy. Always.
He was stunning in that film. Another great performance of his was in "Electra Glide In Blue", where he played a highway patrolman. I'm not sure if he got an Oscar nomination for that, but he should have. His Tonight Show appearances were legendary...and hilarious. Troubled person, but an intense and great actor.
Robert Blake was still awash in placental fluid when he first debuted in Hollywood. You can bet he has been to the bottom and back of the industry’s cesspool more than once. One can only imagine his treatment at the hands of executives, family and industry “professionals” as a child and youth-considering what people are just barely willing to reveal now, 80 years later.
Robert Blake has led an amazing and very tough and VERY tragic life. but he still managed to pull it off, upwards toward 85 now. amazing. not a "nice guy", ... but authentically angry and doing his best in spite of it all. a real performer for sure. a crazy maverick and mostly unpredictable.

He and Klaus Kinski...they are angry, not happy people but creative, fun to watch, great actors. Its not a popularity contest and we know that but they, Klaus and Robert, dont want to compromise "our" authentic selves by trying to be pleasing to others. Perhaps they hope to die on that hill, so that others may be free of...posing, posturing. I certainly do not like aire's of importance just because I meet incredibly powerful people and...they dont have such aires! Furthermore, in my experience, people who DO have such aire's often abuse others, because "they can"...you aren't as important as they are so you dont really matter, you see. Blake, and Kinski, may have had enough of those people. They sense their own narcissism, hold it back, and then see it in others and rage against it, and you see, that absorbs a great deal of social energy, so manners, restraint, may get suspended as they make a point to die on that hill.
