🎨Paints: Use a good quality craft acrylic paint, if your paint is runny or seems thin, it won't perform as well as paints that have body and are not thin.

Great to see you Lena. Thanks for the great information today. I have some pots that I want to stencil soon. This past week I washed them in vinegar water and I let them dry as I knew this helpful video was coming. All these tips are wonderful and thanks for sharing.🪴🪴

Beautiful work. It was good to see Lena.
Thank you!!!
Love the gloss and paisley! Awesome video.
Thank you! We had fun with this one!
This video was very instructional and helpful. I love your style Ms. Lena. By the way, I preferred the high gloss finish.
Thank you! So glad you got to tune in!!
Perfect lesson ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you!!!!
Hello Lena!! So good to see your face.
Thank you!!!!!
Great video! Is the varnish also good as a protectant for weather? I want my pots to be outside all year round but wonder if it protective against sun, rain, snow, wind, etc.
Is it a big deal what kind of brushes you use for the sealant, paint and varnish?
And what kind of primer can you use over the sealant before painting? I want a few pots to be completely one colour (for example blue).
My last question: is one layer of sealant and varnish enough?
Thank you! :)
Thank you so much!!
We recommend a polyurethane varnish for outdoor projects. The DecoArt DuraClear varnish that Lena used on this project has polyurethane in it, and it is what we use for outdoors.
We definitely think the brush choice is important.

We do not use a primer, just the sealer. We use DecoArt MultiPurpose Sealer.
One layer of sealer and varnish is what we typically do. :)
@@StudioR12Stencils thank you for your reply! So just to make sure: if you want to paint the whole pot one color, you just do it over the sealer without primer? :)
Do you apply the sealer before you paint a solid color on your pot and then again over it before you stencil and then put a final coat or sealer on after that? I just painted a few terracotta pots a solid color now I want to try stencil but I’m not sure what to do..
Thanks!!
We have found that sealing the outside and the inside of terracotta pots works very well. You can paint after you seal and then use a multipurpose sealer again for the final sealing when you're finished painting.
Is there a stencil material other than mylar that is easier to maneuver to adhere to the pot?
If the pot has angled sides, you'll likely run into issues regardless the material of the stencil. Even with a vinyl stencil, you'll get some creasing along the angle. We recommend using parts of stencils like Lena did here and moving it along. Or using small stencils. If you use smaller stencils, you may have less issues with the angle of the pot.
I had heard that you needed to use a marine grade sealer for clay pots. Is that not true? The stenciled pots are beautiful!
We have never heard this. We've used the DecoArt MultiPurpose Sealer before painting and polyurethane varnish after painting and have had no issues. We have several pots that we've painted over the years that are holding up lovely!!

What paint are you using?
We use house paint from Sherwin Williams. We paint a lot and buy in bulk. If you want to send us an email, I can send you a photo of exactly what we get. kari.G@studior12.com
We often use DecoArt paint as well.
U can keep painting is it not wet?
Hey Karen! Which part of the video are you referencing?
@StudioR12Stencils I see u painting and then go on to next one near it and paint. So I was wondering u don't need to let it dry before doing another section. Sorry if I didn't explain it good lol
What’s the name of the sealer?
