Tips on EDGE TO VALUE

One of our Five Pencil Method students had a question on how to properly develop "edge to value" when drawing something similar to 3D cubes. Darrel demonstrates some tips on getting the most out of your pencils. You can really make your image POP if you can master this valuable technique.

What I took from the 5 pencil method was there are no "lines" in nature....objects are next to each other and each has their own "edge"......far or close to each other.....So when I draw I should draw values as I truly see them and dont "add" lines around everything....this understanding helped me a lot and improved my drawing ten fold.

Tl;dr: shade the edges
