I grew up in Bay Shore. Graduated in '71. Went to college out of state . I remember the Bay Shore Theater. The Regent. The Roller Ring. Farmers Market. And even the Mall before it was covered. lol I will always have fond memories of home. Thanks for the web site. I truly enjoyed the tour of Main Street.
I graduated from BSHS in 79. Back in the 70s we had many bars on Main Street that closed at 3 am and after a night out we'd go to the Forum Diner and have breakfast. Thats when Diners stayed open all night. Unfortunately the Forum Diner closed down . Wonderful memories.
My family moved to bay shore in 1950! I was 3, what a great place it was, the summers were great! and the long island winters sucked more than the summers were beautiful. so i moved to a place which is about a thousand times better...NORTH CAROLINA!!
On 2nd Ave and Mechanicsville Road, the building was an original fire house now made into a building for artists. The glass window looking like a star on the Methodist church is a Tiffany window. Good job but you missed a few facts.
I remember Pandora’s Box from when Main Street was “in decline” in the 80s! Right next to the beauty school, where my mom used to take me for cheap haircuts, and South Shore Outdoor, where I got my first Champion sweatshirt! I don’t think Pandora’s made it through gentrification, and it looks like South Shore Outdoor moved around a little bit. I think Pandora’s was around 56 Main St., maybe 62?
I grew up in Bayshore, left after graduating in 1973 from BSHS and it was indeed a great place to grow up.
