I for one, appreciate you doing reactions to both. 😊 As we started learning more about you and your tastes NCT kept popping into my mind, and I was already falling down the rabbit hole with them towards the end of last year. Tbh, I was a little scared to suggest them to react to (but I'm tickled pink that you finally did 🥰 ), because I didn't want you to forget about EXO - there's still so much I would love to see you react to from them. Although EXO is my first love, and I'm more familiar with their personalities and their acting, I'm really having fun with NCT (and I include all the subgroups in that). @@njspenzr don’t worry, my approach of “‘never watching anything off camera” actually secures that you guys will be fed exo content for a solid while to come! I still have like 30 “must watch”-videos on my to react to list, and I couldn’t wrap up my exo journey or forget about them with these things still looming over my head 😂 so often I got an exo song come up on shuffle and I think to myself, I can’t WAIT to watch that performance on my to do list with that song 👀🔥 Regarding RUclips algorithm, it’s a bit much to explain, but long story short: RUclips LOVES seeing channels “blow up” and once that has been set in motion, it will typically keep pushing them gladly, as long as they keep doing what they’re doing. You see, RUclips doesn’t really understand the concept of variety (currently). It expects all videos of one channel to be in theory equally interesting to the viewer. Like, if you have a FAVOURITE youtuber, you’d probably watch them watch paint dry - because the reason you’re watching is the youtuber themself, and they’re present. And RUclips kinda expects every channels content to centered on a subject or personality that in it’s core is consistently interesting. From there it sees how the channel as a whole is doing and picks channels that are doing well (views, interaction, watchtime,..) as a sign of increasing video quality and better content and will start recommending it. The thing is - on a channel like this, where there’s a variety of content, there might be people who are actually only interested in the (back to the watching paint dry example) paint, and not the youtuber who’s filming themselves watching the paint dry! So if the youtuber is cooking in the next video, the people who didn’t come for the youtuber but for the paint won’t be interested anymore! That’s kind of the issue with channels that are build around a youtuber (like me), but have a big portion of their audience that’s more interested in the subject of a niche of the content (kpop/exo/reactions) than the youtuber as the core key point of the channel. So by the example of my own channel last year, RUclips saw my exo reactions were successful and kept recommending me left and right (to the point where even someone I’d met at a BTS concert irl before messaged me like - yo, I saw you on RUclips the other day!), but then I started posting some other stuff inbetween my reactions (namely one fashion video and the announcement that I was going to college were the two videos that had the biggest impact) - obviously, many of the people that subscribed for my exo reactions weren’t interested in that (because they see me more like the news anchor than like the, idk.. reality tv star!? Being interested in the subject talked about vs the person presenting it) so these videos did less than 500 views when the exo reactions before all did ~15k, and I was losing more subscribers from these videos than I was gaining. So the algorithm sees lower views and negative subscribers and pulls the emergency break - as an algorithm, it wants to provide quality content to people, and these numbers indicate the video might not be as interesting or good - so it stops/slows down recommending the channel. To apply that back to NCT and EXO rn: I’ve been doing exo reactions for a year now and have released over 50 reactions - obviously I’m not as exciting as a complete newbie anymore, and most exo-l have gotten me recommended before and have already subscribed if they’re interested. Thus my views on exo content (while still amazing) have balanced at an average of ~5k views and maybe 5 new subscribers after the first three days. Now I post two NCT reactions, and i’m completely new to the nct fandom - no one there knows me yet (at least not due to nct)! So it takes a bit for people to stumble upon my video (bcs these people aren’t subscribed yet), but once they see the video there’s more interest (since they’ve never seen me before / completely new content) and of course more interaction (no one was subscribed yet, and of course people tend to comment more while something is still fresh and might lose interest or watch without commenting on my 53rd exo reaction 😅). So the algorithm starts pushing me again, but then I post a new exo video (which does good views, but of course less interaction, because people are already used to me) and the algorithm is like “huh… maybe not!? 🤔” Basically, the idea is once you “hit” the algorithm you do the exact same thing as long as it works and the algorithm might carry you to extreme heights. Doing that is fine of course, and a clever business move, but as I don’t want myself to become “the exo reactor” or “the nct reactor”, I typically try to still post some other stuff to remind people the channel at the core is about sharing my life, which includes my kpop journeys, but that’s not what I would want all of my subscribers to reduce me to 🥺 that being said, it’s hard to bring yourself to break from what the algorithm wants you to do.. 1) it’s pretty hard and rare to get “picked up”, so it’s kind of a wasted opportunity to let it go, and 2) the RUclips analytics are set up to constantly compare your performance - so when I posted my second NCT reaction last week, I got a notification along the lines of “wow awesome, this video performed the best out of your last 10! Keep doing what you’re doing!” alongside a cute little confetti-animation, but on the flip side, when I posted a Vlog about my family adopting kittens (a video near and dear to my heart, that I was very proud on - even though I obviously knew it wouldn’t “perform” with my audience), I logged back in on the next morning to a notification along the lines of “oh, your last video doesn’t seem interesting. Actually, it’s performing worse than all of your last videos. Do better next time!” - this makes it pretty hard on the mental health of many youtubers to do the videos they want to make instead of the videos that will perform well.. Alright.. this wasn’t short at all actually! Hope this was somewhat understandable, I’m terrible at explaining things! Anyways, thanks for your support - I appreciate it tons! 🤗💕

EXO don't usually use statue or big props,they mostly play with levels in stage ,also as exo have superpower,they actually design the stage to use their superpower .Trust me EXO concerts are one of the most expensive concert but as their concert are also connected with their storyline so they try to make the set and chores according to their storyline .
Yes. Exo concerts always have very clean lines and I love that they use the levels of the stages and lifts etc. It's really very catchy and pleasing to the eye. Not to mention the technology they use during their concerts is top notch. I honestly think big props etc would have given the song less of an impact than how they performed it, it is honestly one of my favorite stage performances. The other thing with EXO I swear they have come up with some of the most creative ways to use water during concerts XD

the exo's don't really use much space for stages, they usually have these extended stages that are longer to reach audiences and they adapt the shape to the venues. first priority is always to have more audience, and on smaller venues, priority is to be closer to the audience, not just the VIP standing pit but also the seated parts at the back and the sides. this was disclosed by one of the organizers/coordinators, I'm not sure if it was in Philippines or Malaysia but definitely south east asia

Great to have an EXO reaction from you again, thank you. As always I appreciate your honest thoughts. It was interesting to hear what you would have liked to have seen as it sounded like you were describing a BTS stage. I think EXO prefer simple yet impactful stages that focus on them not the props, as they are generally seen as the vocal kings with amazing visuals and some of the best performers/dancers in Kpop. Different groups appeal in subtly different ways - thankfully so as it gives us the vast variety of Kpop. EXO - L stan the talent. Just as a note, I am not saying other groups don't have talent, obviously they do.
I‘m actually super intrigued how there seems to be a lot of focus on the props comment and a lot of people (not you in particular) are getting defensive about it 👀 I feel like I might‘ve phrased it unfortunately.. I’ll just take this comment as a place to expand on this a bit more, bcs I’ve seen like 10 comments about this now, and I feel like we‘re going in circles a bit 😅 First up: I’m using „props“ in the grand meaning here, so that’s any object on the stage that isn’t the floor, walls or digitally projected. props don’t have to be something that takes the focus away from the artist! Props can be breathtaking, grand and/or flashy, but they can also be subtle or barely noticeable. Using them or not using them isn’t positive or negative per se, they’re just something to make the idea of the team behind the scenes come alive on stage and possibly aid the immersion. Many have commented how exo don’t need/use props because they have superior vocals, and i just wanna add that I don’t personally believe set building and vocal skill correlate. My comment about props wasn’t meant to say the performance was lacking something, but rather give context to my expectations going into the performance (as the story of El Dorado offers a lot of possible visuals from other adaptations already, and the performance had also been recommended hundreds of times to me, so i went in with a pre-formed expectation to how it could look, which I found fair to mention to the viewers). That being said, some of the comments are a little baffling to me - again, regarding „exo don’t use/need props“: there literally ARE props in this performance and I’m a little confused by how many comments I’ve seen getting hung up on this now. The light pillars are props, and so are the flags and the smaller lightsticks. I‘d even dare to argue the props they used in this performance (the light pillars in particular) might‘ve been less subtle than some of the things that I had imagined the stage could look like. The light pillars were a much more modern approach than I expected - which surprised me, but worked just as well and looked great! However, I still feel like if we were to take the prop I showed from the BTS concert as an example in the video (also this ISN’T comparing BTS and EXO, this is comparing a stone pillar and a light pillar 🙃😂), it would‘ve probably been less flashy than the lights? 🤔 not that one is better than the other, that just made me a little confused on where all this anti-prop wind is blowing from 👀 Again - I loved the performance as it was, but I found it important context for you to understand my reaction to mention that I had some thoughts about how it could look beforehand, and given that el dorado according to the legends is an ancient city, I had some considered stone pillars and other „historical“ set building or even treasures (which the digital el dorado in the background actually picked up on nicely)~ that being said, I love the interpretation further down in the comments that the light pillars symbolized EXO being on a ship trying to navigate their voyage to find el dorado!✨ I‘m sorry this is so long! I know your comment wasn’t mean spirited at all, but your comment seemed like a level headed one where I could explain this a bit more and maybe clear up the air around the initial comment a bit, as you seemed genuinely interested in the viewpoint I tried to offer in the video 🤗

If you said all this detail in the reaction people would complain that you say too much! For me, hearing new thoughts and outlooks makes life interesting. It is a chance to see things in a new way. I'm EXO - L, I have been for a long time and I can't see it changing, but I still appreciate other groups, I'm so glad Kpop is being more accepted and I respect all the groups and reactors who work towards spreading awareness and appreciation. it's one of the reasons why i love exo and what draws me into them so much, the fact that every little thing and every little detail in whatever they do is well thought of and most often (if not always) has a meaning related to their lore
They are lit 🔥 on stage EXO live is no joke cz I have never been hooked on live performance very much but I have seen their every live performances and love it a lot one thing is very good about them is they keep it simple but unique they don't try to over do it with anything just focus on their vocals and stage performances

I actually have the same sentiment when it comes to their concert stages. It's just very simple and have very little props. Although their stages are different, sometimes elevated, like their logo, etc. but that's it. Idk what SM is thinking.
El Dorado is a mythical city made of gold. As you may know, El Dorado means the gold or the golden one in Spanish. The Spanish conquerors started the rumor of the city, after learning of the Indian king El Dorado who, according to legend, was covered in gold. So what you saw as part of the background in this performance, was in the beginning the golden gates of the city were there and as the performance went on the gates opened to reveal the mountain and SM's depiction of what they think the city of El Dorado might look like. (LOL which could be Kwangya in SM's storyline.) That is why EXO was all in gold outfits, and I think the lights they danced around were to represent objects they had to navigate through in their search for the city. Finding the city is thought to possibly help to reveal something they need or clues to help them locate the Tree of Life, etc. At the end when they make the X with the light sticks it's to represent the X in EXO, but it's also to represent the X you would find on a treasure map that marks where the treasure would be. In the end X marks the spot and EXO is the treasure. LOL Legends have it that El Dorado is a magical city that can only be found by those who it wants to find it, and some stories say it could have something to do with aliens or otherworldly beings. That's why this song works so well for EXO because EXO's origin story is that they are aliens from Planet Exo who came to Earth with superpowers in order to protect the mythical Tree of Life. That's why in this song some of the English lines are "Sail, sail, sail ... got to go, go, go" ... "got to find, find, find ... El Dorado," etc. Fun fact: It is thought that Lay's solo "Namanana" MV storyline might be connected to "El Dorado's" story. (We see a giant ship sailing through the sky in "Namanana" which is thought to possibly be connected to the fact that in "El Dorado" they are talking about sailing to find El Dorado.) In real life, explorers and Indiana Jones-type treasure hunters are always searching for the lost city of El Dorado thinking if they ever find it, it will be the key to riches and gold. There have been several fictional movies made about the search for El Dorado (For example, Disney has also done adaptations of the El Dorado story over the years with movies and TV shows, etc.) and there even have been TV programs and documentaries, etc. about real life explorers who have searched for the city thinking they can prove it was a real place and, at least in part, the stories could be true. I think in reality El Dorado was a Mayan city that was located on or near a gold minefield and so the city and Inca people who lived there were rich with golden objects made from the tribe's gold. So treasure hunters and explores are looking to find the city's location in the hopes of finding the hidden treasure left behind by its ancient inhabitants, etc. This was only one song out of a 4 or 5 song set in a concert where they probably performed 20 to 30 songs for 3+ hours straight. So, if you think this performance was epic, just wait until you see the full concert. :D

As you have said, me too felt that those backup dancers with flag if they could come up on main stage with EXO members waving flags, that would have added even more excitement in already highly energetic live performance. But then, perhaps the ending would have been different with members dancing with light sticks. Nevertheless El Dorado is one of my fav song and its live is even more better. Actually several songs from that album (Exodus/Love me right) are amazing. I love seeing how someone falls in love with Exo. I think if you put more props they distracted the main concept or tge boys thats why they never put more props to thier concert and also the props is them just the vocals the dance is perfect 😊😊😊
I feel like it depends on how you place them - they had the el dorado visuals in the background digitally, they could’ve done something similar with props with a similarly complimenting effect imo 🤔 for me it’d rather make it more immersive than distracting, but i agree it can be if they’re used or placed in a certain way
@@Landyra Well it's not like EXO Don't use props, it's more like they use the ones that can be done with EXO concept. EXO use more water, lights, fire, lightsabers and platforms, apart from the erigom (the lightsticks) (EXO lighstick was the first that include the change in color and the Bluetooth connection) because they can use the members with that powers to give a different feeling. Example: When the water is used or is falling they point at suho or make him be in the center, he make a gesture with his hand and we know that the water is coming (because suho power is water) same with the other members. Or when the lights change of color or change the direction they make it's appear like was baekhyun who did it (baekhyun power lights) etc. As EXO has powers they use it a lot in all that they can, example in their choreos there are time when they use their "powers" in the members, or in the stages.
they ARE using a bunch of props tho 😶 big light sticks, flags, small light sticks.. not like props change anything about the sound - just visual preference 🤷♀
Landy, about backup dancers and EXO... They mostly don't use other people on stage besides themselves... it's almost as if they're sayin: we are more than enough on stage, you don't need other people. The moment I saw they started using more people on stage was right when the members were going to start their military duties. You can see backup dancers on their concert ElyXion and at the presentations they had after that (without Xiumin and D.O and etc). Before that, almost no other people around them. And.... we have never even considered using backup dancers was "a thing" bc seeing the EXO boys on stage is what matters the most for us, so 🤣💕
it was about the people on the main stage in the video, who were carrying the flags! would've probably been nicer to have them walk up halfway to the extended stage during the last bit, to get maximum use out of them for the bigger picture
Exo doesn't really used much backup dancers tbh. They began to use them only in their most recent concerts. But since EXO's concerts are basically included in their story it really didn't feel like backup dancers are needed. ^^ ppl will probably only understand when they watch it themselves one day but they didn't win an award for the best concert for nothing. Even when I never got the chance to be part of the concert (live) you still can feel it watching it on screen, It's epic from the beginning to the end =) thank you for the reaction
i feel like I phrased this badly, because several people are pointing out how they don’t use backup dancers - I didn’t mean anyone DANCING necessarily 😅 I just assumed the guys with the flags on the main stage were probably backup dancers (I could’ve also said flag holders instead, but I couldn’t come up with a fancy word for it) and would‘ve liked for them to be integrated in the performance a bit more! I found their visuals pretty cool and would‘ve enjoyed for them to be utilized a bit more than just standing on the very edge of the main stage - like either having them walk/march at some point of the performance or just position them a little differently 🤔 the way it was done here (from the shots we got in the video, it might’ve felt different live from a different perspective!) it almost felt a bit disjointed to me, how they were only shown twice very shortly and weren’t even visible in the background for most perspectives (because exo was on the extended stage and the flag-holders were on the main stage, from what I saw). This is just very minor nitpicking, but I really liked the vibe they were giving with the ominous styling and the flags, but in the video it almost seemed like the two times I noticed them being shown shortly, the clip could‘ve just as well been edited in - idk how to describe it.. After watching the performance I just felt like they could‘ve been integrated nicer to really feel like a part of the set 👀 again though.. that‘s just nitpicking! It didn’t change anything about the overall feel of the performance - I just thought if you hire all these people and have them styled and appear on stage, might aswell utilize them more 😅

As we started learning more about you and your tastes NCT kept popping into my mind, and I was already falling down the rabbit hole with them towards the end of last year. Tbh, I was a little scared to suggest them to react to (but I'm tickled pink that you finally did 🥰 ), because I didn't want you to forget about EXO - there's still so much I would love to see you react to from them. Although EXO is my first love, and I'm more familiar with their personalities and their acting, I'm really having fun with NCT (and I include all the subgroups in that). I honestly love them both! 💕
I apologize ahead for my lack of knowledge in how youtube algorithms work, but why would the analytics "hate" you?
@@njspenzr don’t worry, my approach of “‘never watching anything off camera” actually secures that you guys will be fed exo content for a solid while to come! I still have like 30 “must watch”-videos on my to react to list, and I couldn’t wrap up my exo journey or forget about them with these things still looming over my head 😂 so often I got an exo song come up on shuffle and I think to myself, I can’t WAIT to watch that performance on my to do list with that song 👀🔥
Regarding RUclips algorithm, it’s a bit much to explain, but long story short: RUclips LOVES seeing channels “blow up” and once that has been set in motion, it will typically keep pushing them gladly, as long as they keep doing what they’re doing. You see, RUclips doesn’t really understand the concept of variety (currently). It expects all videos of one channel to be in theory equally interesting to the viewer. Like, if you have a FAVOURITE youtuber, you’d probably watch them watch paint dry - because the reason you’re watching is the youtuber themself, and they’re present. And RUclips kinda expects every channels content to centered on a subject or personality that in it’s core is consistently interesting. From there it sees how the channel as a whole is doing and picks channels that are doing well (views, interaction, watchtime,..) as a sign of increasing video quality and better content and will start recommending it.
The thing is - on a channel like this, where there’s a variety of content, there might be people who are actually only interested in the (back to the watching paint dry example) paint, and not the youtuber who’s filming themselves watching the paint dry! So if the youtuber is cooking in the next video, the people who didn’t come for the youtuber but for the paint won’t be interested anymore! That’s kind of the issue with channels that are build around a youtuber (like me), but have a big portion of their audience that’s more interested in the subject of a niche of the content (kpop/exo/reactions) than the youtuber as the core key point of the channel.
So by the example of my own channel last year, RUclips saw my exo reactions were successful and kept recommending me left and right (to the point where even someone I’d met at a BTS concert irl before messaged me like - yo, I saw you on RUclips the other day!), but then I started posting some other stuff inbetween my reactions (namely one fashion video and the announcement that I was going to college were the two videos that had the biggest impact) - obviously, many of the people that subscribed for my exo reactions weren’t interested in that (because they see me more like the news anchor than like the, idk.. reality tv star!? Being interested in the subject talked about vs the person presenting it) so these videos did less than 500 views when the exo reactions before all did ~15k, and I was losing more subscribers from these videos than I was gaining.
So the algorithm sees lower views and negative subscribers and pulls the emergency break - as an algorithm, it wants to provide quality content to people, and these numbers indicate the video might not be as interesting or good - so it stops/slows down recommending the channel.
To apply that back to NCT and EXO rn: I’ve been doing exo reactions for a year now and have released over 50 reactions - obviously I’m not as exciting as a complete newbie anymore, and most exo-l have gotten me recommended before and have already subscribed if they’re interested. Thus my views on exo content (while still amazing) have balanced at an average of ~5k views and maybe 5 new subscribers after the first three days. Now I post two NCT reactions, and i’m completely new to the nct fandom - no one there knows me yet (at least not due to nct)! So it takes a bit for people to stumble upon my video (bcs these people aren’t subscribed yet), but once they see the video there’s more interest (since they’ve never seen me before / completely new content) and of course more interaction (no one was subscribed yet, and of course people tend to comment more while something is still fresh and might lose interest or watch without commenting on my 53rd exo reaction 😅). So the algorithm starts pushing me again, but then I post a new exo video (which does good views, but of course less interaction, because people are already used to me) and the algorithm is like “huh… maybe not!? 🤔”
Basically, the idea is once you “hit” the algorithm you do the exact same thing as long as it works and the algorithm might carry you to extreme heights. Doing that is fine of course, and a clever business move, but as I don’t want myself to become “the exo reactor” or “the nct reactor”, I typically try to still post some other stuff to remind people the channel at the core is about sharing my life, which includes my kpop journeys, but that’s not what I would want all of my subscribers to reduce me to 🥺
that being said, it’s hard to bring yourself to break from what the algorithm wants you to do.. 1) it’s pretty hard and rare to get “picked up”, so it’s kind of a wasted opportunity to let it go, and 2) the RUclips analytics are set up to constantly compare your performance - so when I posted my second NCT reaction last week, I got a notification along the lines of “wow awesome, this video performed the best out of your last 10! Keep doing what you’re doing!” alongside a cute little confetti-animation, but on the flip side, when I posted a Vlog about my family adopting kittens (a video near and dear to my heart, that I was very proud on - even though I obviously knew it wouldn’t “perform” with my audience), I logged back in on the next morning to a notification along the lines of “oh, your last video doesn’t seem interesting. Actually, it’s performing worse than all of your last videos. Do better next time!” - this makes it pretty hard on the mental health of many youtubers to do the videos they want to make instead of the videos that will perform well..

Yes. Exo concerts always have very clean lines and I love that they use the levels of the stages and lifts etc. It's really very catchy and pleasing to the eye. Not to mention the technology they use during their concerts is top notch. I honestly think big props etc would have given the song less of an impact than how they performed it, it is honestly one of my favorite stage performances. The other thing with EXO I swear they have come up with some of the most creative ways to use water during concerts XD

The most legendary stage ever. Never failed to give goosebumps each time I watched this. It's an absolute masterpiece. It's an epic vibe when exo sings together
the exo's don't really use much space for stages, they usually have these extended stages that are longer to reach audiences and they adapt the shape to the venues. first priority is always to have more audience, and on smaller venues, priority is to be closer to the audience, not just the VIP standing pit but also the seated parts at the back and the sides. this was disclosed by one of the organizers/coordinators, I'm not sure if it was in Philippines or Malaysia but definitely south east asia

I don't care much for props. I just want to listen to vocals. So that's why EXO is the only group I love.
Even with difficult choreo they can still slay in terms of vocals. The best vocalists in one group, amazing!!!
Great to have an EXO reaction from you again, thank you. As always I appreciate your honest thoughts. It was interesting to hear what you would have liked to have seen as it sounded like you were describing a BTS stage. I think EXO prefer simple yet impactful stages that focus on them not the props, as they are generally seen as the vocal kings with amazing visuals and some of the best performers/dancers in Kpop. Different groups appeal in subtly different ways - thankfully so as it gives us the vast variety of Kpop. EXO - L stan the talent. Just as a note, I am not saying other groups don't have talent, obviously they do.
I‘m actually super intrigued how there seems to be a lot of focus on the props comment and a lot of people (not you in particular) are getting defensive about it 👀 I feel like I might‘ve phrased it unfortunately.. I’ll just take this comment as a place to expand on this a bit more, bcs I’ve seen like 10 comments about this now, and I feel like we‘re going in circles a bit 😅
First up: I’m using „props“ in the grand meaning here, so that’s any object on the stage that isn’t the floor, walls or digitally projected. props don’t have to be something that takes the focus away from the artist! Props can be breathtaking, grand and/or flashy, but they can also be subtle or barely noticeable. Using them or not using them isn’t positive or negative per se, they’re just something to make the idea of the team behind the scenes come alive on stage and possibly aid the immersion.
Many have commented how exo don’t need/use props because they have superior vocals, and i just wanna add that I don’t personally believe set building and vocal skill correlate.
My comment about props wasn’t meant to say the performance was lacking something, but rather give context to my expectations going into the performance (as the story of El Dorado offers a lot of possible visuals from other adaptations already, and the performance had also been recommended hundreds of times to me, so i went in with a pre-formed expectation to how it could look, which I found fair to mention to the viewers).
That being said, some of the comments are a little baffling to me - again, regarding „exo don’t use/need props“: there literally ARE props in this performance and I’m a little confused by how many comments I’ve seen getting hung up on this now. The light pillars are props, and so are the flags and the smaller lightsticks. I‘d even dare to argue the props they used in this performance (the light pillars in particular) might‘ve been less subtle than some of the things that I had imagined the stage could look like. The light pillars were a much more modern approach than I expected - which surprised me, but worked just as well and looked great! However, I still feel like if we were to take the prop I showed from the BTS concert as an example in the video (also this ISN’T comparing BTS and EXO, this is comparing a stone pillar and a light pillar 🙃😂), it would‘ve probably been less flashy than the lights? 🤔 not that one is better than the other, that just made me a little confused on where all this anti-prop wind is blowing from 👀
Again - I loved the performance as it was, but I found it important context for you to understand my reaction to mention that I had some thoughts about how it could look beforehand, and given that el dorado according to the legends is an ancient city, I had some considered stone pillars and other „historical“ set building or even treasures (which the digital el dorado in the background actually picked up on nicely)~ that being said, I love the interpretation further down in the comments that the light pillars symbolized EXO being on a ship trying to navigate their voyage to find el dorado!✨
I‘m sorry this is so long! I know your comment wasn’t mean spirited at all, but your comment seemed like a level headed one where I could explain this a bit more and maybe clear up the air around the initial comment a bit, as you seemed genuinely interested in the viewpoint I tried to offer in the video 🤗

If you said all this detail in the reaction people would complain that you say too much! For me, hearing new thoughts and outlooks makes life interesting. It is a chance to see things in a new way. I'm EXO - L, I have been for a long time and I can't see it changing, but I still appreciate other groups, I'm so glad Kpop is being more accepted and I respect all the groups and reactors who work towards spreading awareness and appreciation. Keep your honestly and know there are many people who may not agree 100%, but are happy with that.

it's one of the reasons why i love exo and what draws me into them so much, the fact that every little thing and every little detail in whatever they do is well thought of and most often (if not always) has a meaning related to their lore

El Dorado is a mythical city made of gold. As you may know, El Dorado means the gold or the golden one in Spanish. The Spanish conquerors started the rumor of the city, after learning of the Indian king El Dorado who, according to legend, was covered in gold. So what you saw as part of the background in this performance, was in the beginning the golden gates of the city were there and as the performance went on the gates opened to reveal the mountain and SM's depiction of what they think the city of El Dorado might look like. (LOL which could be Kwangya in SM's storyline.) That is why EXO was all in gold outfits, and I think the lights they danced around were to represent objects they had to navigate through in their search for the city. Finding the city is thought to possibly help to reveal something they need or clues to help them locate the Tree of Life, etc. At the end when they make the X with the light sticks it's to represent the X in EXO, but it's also to represent the X you would find on a treasure map that marks where the treasure would be. In the end X marks the spot and EXO is the treasure. LOL
Legends have it that El Dorado is a magical city that can only be found by those who it wants to find it, and some stories say it could have something to do with aliens or otherworldly beings. That's why this song works so well for EXO because EXO's origin story is that they are aliens from Planet Exo who came to Earth with superpowers in order to protect the mythical Tree of Life. That's why in this song some of the English lines are "Sail, sail, sail ... got to go, go, go" ... "got to find, find, find ... El Dorado," etc.
Fun fact: It is thought that Lay's solo "Namanana" MV storyline might be connected to "El Dorado's" story. (We see a giant ship sailing through the sky in "Namanana" which is thought to possibly be connected to the fact that in "El Dorado" they are talking about sailing to find El Dorado.)
In real life, explorers and Indiana Jones-type treasure hunters are always searching for the lost city of El Dorado thinking if they ever find it, it will be the key to riches and gold.
There have been several fictional movies made about the search for El Dorado (For example, Disney has also done adaptations of the El Dorado story over the years with movies and TV shows, etc.) and there even have been TV programs and documentaries, etc. about real life explorers who have searched for the city thinking they can prove it was a real place and, at least in part, the stories could be true.
I think in reality El Dorado was a Mayan city that was located on or near a gold minefield and so the city and Inca people who lived there were rich with golden objects made from the tribe's gold. So treasure hunters and explores are looking to find the city's location in the hopes of finding the hidden treasure left behind by its ancient inhabitants, etc.
This was only one song out of a 4 or 5 song set in a concert where they probably performed 20 to 30 songs for 3+ hours straight. So, if you think this performance was epic, just wait until you see the full concert. :D
Loved your reactions Landy. Its good to see you liked the live version of El Dorado. As you have said, me too felt that those backup dancers with flag if they could come up on main stage with EXO members waving flags, that would have added even more excitement in already highly energetic live performance. But then, perhaps the ending would have been different with members dancing with light sticks. Nevertheless El Dorado is one of my fav song and its live is even more better. El Dorado is like in my top 5 of all Exo songs and the live performance unnngggg it's just A MASTERPIECE. Actually several songs from that album (Exodus/Love me right) are amazing. I love seeing how someone falls in love with Exo. Because I was kinda reluctant at first (I've been an ExoL for about a year now, so yeah xd) but then they just grabbed me and never let go. It's like, you don't choose to like them, they just grab you and you just go with them without realizing it lol.

I feel like it depends on how you place them - they had the el dorado visuals in the background digitally, they could’ve done something similar with props with a similarly complimenting effect imo 🤔 for me it’d rather make it more immersive than distracting, but i agree it can be if they’re used or placed in a certain way
@@Landyra Well it's not like EXO Don't use props, it's more like they use the ones that can be done with EXO concept.
EXO use more water, lights, fire, lightsabers and platforms, apart from the erigom (the lightsticks) (EXO lighstick was the first that include the change in color and the Bluetooth connection) because they can use the members with that powers to give a different feeling.
Example:
When the water is used or is falling they point at suho or make him be in the center, he make a gesture with his hand and we know that the water is coming (because suho power is water) same with the other members.

As EXO has powers they use it a lot in all that they can, example in their choreos there are time when they use their "powers" in the members, or in the stages.
they ARE using a bunch of props tho 😶 big light sticks, flags, small light sticks.. not like props change anything about the sound - just visual preference 🤷♀

Landy, about backup dancers and EXO... They mostly don't use other people on stage besides themselves... it's almost as if they're sayin: we are more than enough on stage, you don't need other people. The moment I saw they started using more people on stage was right when the members were going to start their military duties. You can see backup dancers on their concert ElyXion and at the presentations they had after that (without Xiumin and D.O and etc). Before that, almost no other people around them. And.... we have never even considered using backup dancers was "a thing" bc seeing the EXO boys on stage is what matters the most for us, so 🤣💕
it was about the people on the main stage in the video, who were carrying the flags!
would've probably been nicer to have them walk up halfway to the extended stage during the last bit, to get maximum use out of them for the bigger picture

Exo doesn't really used much backup dancers tbh. They began to use them only in their most recent concerts. But since EXO's concerts are basically included in their story it really didn't feel like backup dancers are needed. ^^ ppl will probably only understand when they watch it themselves one day but they didn't win an award for the best concert for nothing. Even when I never got the chance to be part of the concert (live) you still can feel it watching it on screen, It's epic from the beginning to the end =) thank you for the reaction
i feel like I phrased this badly, because several people are pointing out how they don’t use backup dancers - I didn’t mean anyone DANCING necessarily 😅 I just assumed the guys with the flags on the main stage were probably backup dancers (I could’ve also said flag holders instead, but I couldn’t come up with a fancy word for it) and would‘ve liked for them to be integrated in the performance a bit more! I found their visuals pretty cool and would‘ve enjoyed for them to be utilized a bit more than just standing on the very edge of the main stage - like either having them walk/march at some point of the performance or just position them a little differently 🤔
the way it was done here (from the shots we got in the video, it might’ve felt different live from a different perspective!) it almost felt a bit disjointed to me, how they were only shown twice very shortly and weren’t even visible in the background for most perspectives (because exo was on the extended stage and the flag-holders were on the main stage, from what I saw). This is just very minor nitpicking, but I really liked the vibe they were giving with the ominous styling and the flags, but in the video it almost seemed like the two times I noticed them being shown shortly, the clip could‘ve just as well been edited in - idk how to describe it.. After watching the performance I just felt like they could‘ve been integrated nicer to really feel like a part of the set 👀
again though.. that‘s just nitpicking! It didn’t change anything about the overall feel of the performance - I just thought if you hire all these people and have them styled and appear on stage, might aswell utilize them more 😅
