Thanks so much! A lot of channels don’t talk about getting off the ship and the port itself and focus only on the excursions! Thanks so much! So grateful!
I'd also add Key West. I've found it incredibly wheelchair friendly. They have an accessible Hop-On/Hop-Off (okay, not so much hopping done in a chair) bus that you can purchase an all-day ticket for. Mallory Square is amazing, and there's so much to do there that's wheelchair friendly. I've been to most of the ports listed (although Napoli and Istanbul were before I was in a chair) except Nassau, so it's good to know that Nassau is chair-friendly. The Grand Turk cruise port is one of my favorite places!!! You're going to love it. On my first trip there, I was on a back-to-back cruise which stopped there twice. I only found one accessible shorex that interested me, so I was thinking that I'd just stay on the ship the second time. And then I saw that FABULOUS cruise passenger center. There's an amazing pool. Unfortunately, it doesn't have any facilities to lower non-ambulatory chair users into the pool, but I happily spent a long afternoon by that beautiful pool (with a view of my ship and the beach) lounging in a chaise lounge ('cause what else do you do in a chaise lounge), reading, sipping a lovely beverage (avec umbrella, si vous plait), listening to the music coming from Margaritaville, and dozing. The only real downside was that I somehow omitted putting sunscreen on my lower legs, and ended up with a really nasty sunburn. There are a ton of shops there, and even the cheezy souvenir stores were chair-friendly. There are some great photo spots (including some commemorating one of the Gemini flight splashdowns which occurred there). It's a great place to spend the day, and I can't wait to return (wearing my "Cruising with Wheels" T-Shirt, of course). Thanks for your great and helpful videos!
This is Wonderful information. Not only do you discuss the best port f or accessibility as well as discusswhat to do within those ports but gave us an idea to check out Montecarlo 😀
Unfortunately we only make videos of subjects that we have personally experienced. I do not have any experience with cruising in Germany on the Rhine so we really can't speak to it.
Most of the times...your tour will be close to the ship area. Guests not solely in a wheelchair or scooter can use a walker OR better yet ......a Rolator (it allows you the security of a mobility device....and to be able to sit when needed...as well as to be folded up) search.easycomforts.com/comfort/3-Wheel-Rolator
Do you book your accessible transportation in port cities on your own or through the cruise line? My husband is in a power chair and a rather large fella, so he can't attend excursions due to the weight limits...his chair alone is 450 pounds, and with him we are at about 700 lbs. The cruise ships do have van rentals but they are extremely expensive!
That would be a question for you to ask the specific cruise line you are sailing on. Reach out to the special needs department and/or shore excursion department. Every line is different and they would know there offered excursions best.
Are more countries coming up with laws similar to the ADA which would increase accessibility? I noticed 2 ports were in the U.S., so ADA applies. I was just in the US and British Virgin Islands, and both looked like they had very accessible areas.

Glad it was helpful Marie !

That is awesome to hear Lee !!! We can't wait to get to these islands again.

Frank is obsessed with Monte Carlo !! He wants to get his " James Bond " on....at the casinos !!
@@Cruisingwithwheels 😆😆
Need to watch for pickpockets on Las Ramblas in Barceloma
Yes....they are in ABUNDANCE there !!
Cadiz and Alicante in Spain are very good with the ship docking right at the downtown. I don’t recall if there would be any wheelchair problems
Love these downtown ports !!
Hi, Frank. How do you get from the airport to the cruise ship? Does your chair fold up to fit in a trunk?
Yes. I use a collapsable wheelchair
Can you make a video on accessibility river cruising down the Rhine river in Germany like cruise ship ADA staterooms, ports, etc.?
Unfortunately we only make videos of subjects that we have personally experienced. I do not have any experience with cruising in Germany on the Rhine so we really can't speak to it.
Could you include information about getting from ship to wherever your tour meets if you are not in a chair but have limited walking.

Puerta Vallarta in Mexico has an accessible dock. Downtown, not so much. San Diego has a good set up, too.
Thanks Kay !!
Was your Alaska trip round trip or did you have to do that 6hour train ride to the airport?
Alaska was roundtrip for us.

So far...we have always booked through the cruise line...that way, we have someone to represent us if we have an issue.
I would think that every US port would be ADA compliant. Thank you so much for all the great info.
Our pleasure!
Have more of a question when you say accessible on some of the tours, what about someone who can not transfer? I am a paraplegic and wheelchair bound.

We can't really speak to other countries law process. Sorry. We can only hope!!
I'm going to be in Grand Turk in 2023 also!
We are so excited...can't wait !!
Puerto rico was a easy cruise port we were there in April
We've never had a problem in Puerto Rico....except for some cobblestone streets.
It’s pronounced bay-own.
Or if you want to add a more Jersey accent it’s bay-yoan.
Definitely gotta add the New Jersey accent !! LOL
