Nice set up.. have you ever considered installing droppings board under your roost? I have one with PDZ stall refresher sprinkled on top… it has been a game changer in my coop, I clean off the droppings board daily, keeps flys down, smells down and it makes my shavings on the floor last longer
We’ve thought about doing something to spread out that manure to get the most out of it. So far we just use a good ole hand rake and the deep litter method - resulting in a smell free coop and great compost!
This is the same method we use as well. However, we would eventually like to put ours in a chicken tractor and move them around the garden areas or even keep them in our greenhouse during the winter months. BTW- just found your channel. Keep up the good work. Your channel name grabbed my attention… The Galloway district is the area in Scotland where our ancestors are from. (South West Scotland 🏴 ) Blessings!
We've used a chicken tractor for our meat chickens and we loved it! Haven't tried it for our permanent flock though, that's a great idea. And thanks for the support! That's awesome about your ancestors, any chance that's where Belted Galloway cattle originated from??
@@TheGallowayFarm Yes, we have 4 chicken tractors we use for our meat birds as well. Thought it would be a good idea to try it with our layers. …and yes, that’s is exactly where the belted Galloway cattle are from. 👍
Great question! We put our screws in at an angle so that small disturbances wouldn’t cause them to fall. Interestingly, the boxes that they use all the time rarely come off the screws while the box on the other side of the wall seems to always be off…🤔 I think they use it for sleeping. Somebody must be excited to wake up!

Being able to hook the roost up to clean is genius!
It really makes it so much easier!

How do you keep the nesting box’s from flipping off the wall when the hens jump on the side of them?

What is the floor if your coop? Dirt or wood or something else? As ee have a dirt floor so us it okay to put the shavings onto.
Our coop floor is wood. If yours has a dirt floor, I would put down a layer of cardboard before putting in the shavings to make clean up easier!
@@TheGallowayFarm do we have to put shavings on the floor or is a dirt floor also good?
gottttttta love the chicken coop clean. yuck. Love your herb plan!
So dreaded but so satisfying when it’s finished! And thank you, I love having something useful to do with all the extra herbs!
