I feel your pain. My first session was horrible. I did get a few good licks in but after that the truck just went downhill. She will definitely need some tuning to be a performer. It just sucks that Arrma made such a beautiful truck. But couldn’t tune it properly. A lot of the issues I believe are the tires Were used to tires expanding to give us that rotating mass and with those new big rock tires they just don’t do that. I’m sure you’ll get her tuned brother Grate honest feedback we need more of that.
Thanks Aldo! King Salami in the house 😀 Completely agree with you. The truck looks amazing but isn't there out of the box. We will get it performing though! Appreciate you watching and all that you do for the hobby man!
*_Using this slightly smaller wheel/tire setup was unequivocally a way to "maximize the performance" of what would otherwise and normally be a somewhat sluggish truck with a much more full size setup. As you already know and have mentioned... TUNING is going to be huge for this truck.. starting with all the diff fluids! Arrma has your average consumer fooled with this truck and its good looks, and its rebranded but still cheapo Spektrum electronics! Rip it all out, and put high end goodness in there!_*
If you watch the Earl Moorehead vids in this. He found out it brakes itself on 3 quarter trigger causing the nose plant. A glitch in the ESC. Arrma knows about it also.
Had a similar glitchy problem with my Mojave 4S I got recently. Turned out to be a faulty transmitter, not sure if Arrma had a bad batch of SLT3’s? Definitely give a different transmitter a go, pretty gutting when a new truck plays up out the box! Cheers for the honest video as always 👍🏻
Very interesting! I am starting to wonder if the dual protocol is the issue. I have never run the SLT transmitter with a DSMR receiver 🤔 I'm gonna bind it up to my DX5C, several others have done that and haven't had the issues that I have.
@@GreatLakesRC that’s exactly what I did and worked perfectly, seen a few more videos on the Mojave and Big Rock with similar issues so definitely a bad batch of transmitters. Hope you get it sorted and get to enjoy it properly, it’s such a great looking truck 👌🏻
🤣🤣 Yes, some tears on the first roof landing. When you can take a look at how the truck goes up, then takes off again onto the roof. That's the ESC issue. It's got some weirdness
We saw the same issue with Traxxas Sledge, the wieght on the front end. But if you think about it, its not all doom and gloom..with some tuning it can be nice. But imo the industry needs something new.
Wow, weird problems. What battery are you running? I'd try lowering the Lipo cutoff to a lower setting. Good info on the 80k, I didn't know that, I'm going to try something more in the 30-50k range.
@@GreatLakesRC it’s possible the battery can’t keep up, perhaps the initial hit of power is coming from the cap pack until the battery kicks in. That’s all the speculating I got… 🤷
Thanks for checking out the video 👍 I just watched RC Guy Garage video. I am definitely experiencing the same. You come up with a fix? Lots of good suggestions in the comments here.
Wow. You got a lot of comments from the big players. I agree on getting some backflips for it. Personally, I'd put LSD plates (full effect) in the front diff with a 50/50 mix of 500k and 100k. Fill the LSD center (full effect) with 80k, and 80k for the rear with LSD plates set to minimum effect. No completely open diffs. It sounds weird, but it's like computer controlled torque sensing AWD like that. Works for mine! I have no diff issues and run 8s in my K6. Everything is shimmed solid. The Big Rock needs more power up front to balance it out in the air, and on the ground. The diff setting should prevent wheelying so easily. No more Booker T spin-ah-roony. It won't turn quite as easy, but it won't want to spin out like that. Ya' can't know how you want the shocks till you get some traction with better rubber. I wouldn't know, anyway. Then see what you can do with the ESC. 🤷
Thanks for the comment 👍 I haven't messed with EXB diffs until now so there will be a bit of a learning curve. As far as the comments, I think this is a popular truck and I have been around for too long playing with RC cars 🤣
@@GreatLakesRC Oh, and I think there's a way to relocate the battery tray. There should be pre-drilled holes for the tray to be moved rearwards, but I'm not so sure about the attached receiver box. That would drastically help with preventing nose dive as well my unorthodox diff tune. But you probably already know about the tray 😅. Edit: You shouldn't have to be disappointed with a $700 truck, seeing as how ARRMA blitzed everyone with the new EXB release. You should be happy with it all dialed in. 👍👍
Well that wasn't exactly a joyous maiden run with the all new Big Rock 😱. Loved your genuine, honest feedback Brother 👊. Between the heavy body and stiff compound tires (and possibly a bum ESC) I could feel your new truck disappointment. Maxing the punch is the first thing I do with all my ARRMA's. That should 100% improve throttle response and power delivery. It's possible the hard compound tires were slipping off your ramp on throttle, especially with colder temps and damp conditions. That will completely nose dive you because the normal blip of throttle on take off causes slip instead of propulsion. I think the tires are scale appearance focused, not performance oriented which is unfortunate. Throw on some Backflips and try a different ESC if you're glitching out. Shock and diff tuning will help, but probably won't solve the bigger handling issues. This truck can be made to perform great no question. Why it doesn't straight out of the box begs some criticism. You'll have her dialed in short order my friend. 🍻😎💪👊👊
Really 🤔 Well that would definitely account for what I experienced. I even double checked to make sure drag brake was off. If that's true, Hobbywing has to stop messing with their ESC's. That new Max5 G2 has a bunch of delay in it, and then possibly these new ESC's....
Not that you should have to with an RTR, but did you calibrate the ESC/Remote? Same issue @rcguygarage has, either they decreased the neutral width in the programming or your trim is creating an unintended braking situation after throttle let off from launch. Those tires are horrible regardless, I run 100k Rear and 200k Front in most of mine for consistent air control but you should go through the diffs to see if you actually have EXB/fluid inside cups. Can't imagine the frustration a new RC owner would have with this $700 investment acting that way.
That's interesting 🤔 I did not see that video, but I will check it out. I didn't do anything to the truck when the video started. I wanted to drive it just as Arrma had set it up. That's why I was so bummed out, every other Arrma I have had has been pretty good out the box. I am in the process of upgrading and tuning now. Definitely getting into all the diffs.
