    Love your videos! I actually traded in a 2018 Audi S5 Sportback to get my Model 3 Performance. The acceleration in the M3P is better than the Benz C63 S, BMW M3, etc...and that's what you use most in real world driving. I rarely get going quickly around turns where I live, but there are plenty of straightaways and the acceleration never gets old. I also like that the suspension is better for everyday driving, plus it's so much cheaper to operate and cheaper on maintenance. The constant improvements with software updates are awesome and I really like that it helps the environment.
    I think all of the attention on panel gaps and perceived interior quality is because the other automakers have nothing that can actually compete with the performance per dollar (all slower, and many slower around some tracks too as TopGear pointed out), and when you take into account operating costs, tech, and environmental impact, there's no question which car is king. So, if you're the other automakers, you spread talk about stuff no one really cared about before like panel gaps because that's one of the few things you can do better.

      Same here brother. People called me crazy when I went from the Audi S5 Sportback (2017) B9 model to a Tesla Model S. The Audi interior was definitely a bit better in terms of sturdy build quality. But the Tesla blows it away in every single aspect, from performance to comfort to the constant updates to less maintentance. That Audi S5 was gonna become a HUGE moneypit while Tesla drives like a new car even when it reaches 100.000 mileage. Those people that called me crazy are having a lot more joy when I drive them around in the Tesla than the Audi so yea. The prejudice is real...
      Enjoy your Model 3 man. I wanted the Model 3 Performance as well because Model S is way too long for roads in The Netherlands and Model 3 has newer tech, but I had a couple days to switch over to an EV so I could get a nice subsidy and tax cut within my company and there were not Model 3 in stock. So I went with a Model S instead. Not complaining though, still an amazing car and its such a joy to drive this thing.

I had a pretty good deal and I must admit I find the S sleeker and being more “car” with premium features. Gonna get it next Wednesday :-)

    Every time I drive my Model 3 it's like stepping into the future, and the best part is it's the ONLY car that gets better over time! With the updates that happen it's pretty amazing what my car can do now compared to what it did a year ago. That in itself forgives any quality details over buying ANY other car. I came from a Mk4 R32 and the Model 3 is awesome. While I do at times miss that VR6 sound, the ability to jet away from Muscle cars at lights in silence is priceless :) In just a year here is a list of things my car was updated with... for free, while sitting in my own garage, while I slept : 5% power boost, 310 mile to 325 mile range upgrade, better braking, geo location folding mirrors, navigate on auto-pilot, auto lane change, blind spot monitor, dash cam, sentry mode, climate on while parked, dog mode, Atari games, fart mode, Mad Max level for auto lane change, preheat for supercharging, 150KW charging ability, UI update 2x, summon, advanced summon beta, romance mode, more power at higher speed adjustment, updated browser use, better map functions, pin to drive, lane departure warning, rear heated seats (activated) and more that I just can't remember.... That's a HUGE selling point most people miss...and there's plenty more to come making the car you buy now, somewhat future proof for a few years to come yet. All other companies would make you have to just buy a new car to get upgraded features.

      He did his research. Most reviewers have no idea how track mode works and what it really does. I am nerdy enough to dig into all the weeds and research my purchases to learn the ins and outs, and it is a bit of a peeve of mine when people review the car and leave out, or get important details wrong, such as the thrust vectoring, and open differential limited slip functions that tesla uses which give it the best and most advanced AWD system of any car out there, simply by merit of not requiring a center differential to control front and rear bias, and the speed that motors can react to changing traction conditions in comparison to a combustion engine which has quite a lot of lag between power creation, and delivery in reaction to changing traction conditions. Tesla does not use limited slip differentials for the reason that the insane amounts of torque produced by the motors would shatter the internals, so instead they use a very beefy open differential and cleaver usage of electronic braking. One thing he missed though is audio quality. The audio in the model 3 is absolutely amazing. It is easily the best OEM audio I have ever heard in a car.

    My previous car was a BMW e92 335i coupe. I had a long-range dual motor Tesla Model 3 for six months. Both cars are wonderful. For performance, the BMW has a harsher ride and is about 0.5 seconds slower 0-60 and 1/4 mile. For ease of everyday use, the Tesla with Autopilot leaves me more refreshed after long drives (been driving for 35 years) and the white vegan seats are more comfortable. Tech wise, the Tesla App does more than most would expect including Summon, interior remote preheating & cooling, Sentry mode activation, etc. Between the two, I prefer the overall driving experience and performance of the Tesla.

    Tesla's EV concept is fantastic and was far ahead of the other car manufacturers in 2012 when Model S came on the market. Model 3 is no exception. The perceived build quality is not the best, but this can be relatively easily improved as opposed to, for example, the German premium car manufacturers having to invent brand new competitors from scratch (which they have not yet properly done 7 years later). Great review by the way. Keep up the good work :)

    • @LiquidIEx
      @LiquidIEx 5 лет назад +6

      Invent? EVs are so easy to build that even Dyson does it. The engine of EV is so simple compared to a combustion engine. The german automakers just dont needed an EV for years because literally no one asked for it to buy! The main push in that direction is because of the insane regulations and politicians who want a fast transformation to EVs. As you might know Tesla doesnt make any money compared to german carmakers, so there is no need to see Tesla as a rolemodel. Its not! And the Tesla 3 looks cheap on first sight, its really of bad quality.

    • @effervescence5664
      @effervescence5664 5 лет назад +2

      Unfortunately not one review seems to highlight the biggest issue with EV's - Governments are not investing in power distribution infrastructure, a majority of homes across the EU only have between 60-100 amp single phase supplies. A 7.4 kw standard charger for a Tesla is 30 amps, new homes (UK for reference) in 5 years are to be built with induction hobs which average 30 amps themselves. This is one reason why most companies are making more hybrids in their ranges but not rushing out lots of electric vehicles and even those they release are at a slight premium. Due to the knowledge most national grids could not cope if everyone could get hold of cheap electric vehicles.

    • @doubleclutchonline5811

      Riiiight. Comparing the profitability of 100 year old companies with a company that's been producing cars for 2,500 days is just absurd. Only the blind don't see the writing on the wall, that's why legacy automakers are all hustling to produce their own EV's. With limited success. Just because "no one asked for it" doesn't mean anything. No one asked for the iPhone either. But as soon as it became available, everyone clamored for one. As-in, lines around the block for the iPhone and Teslas. Today, the Model S sells more than the S-class, the 7 Series and the Audi A-whatever combined. Seven years after it was launched, no one has built anything more competitive. Please tell me what car can accelerate to 60 in 2.3 seconds. Tesla offers the performance that beats a $3M Bugatti, for 1/20th the price. It doesn't have to be the best at everything, but it's great at most things and astonishingly good at a lot of things.

My wife surprised me with a test drive in the Model S and I was extremely hesitant and kinda anti-EV back then. One kickdown and that instant torque, that amazing rush you get and the extreme comfort and smooth acceleration. I was sold instantly, got a really good price on my S5 Sportback and sold it without hesitation and switched to the Model S. Thanks for the review. I never thought I would consider an electric vehicle. I was considering updating my 2016 340i xDrive M sport variant to a 2020 Z4. I took it out for a test drive and it was very impressive. In fact so much so that I was ready to negotiate with my car as a trade but, I had booked an appointment to test drive the model 3 the following day and I am glad I did. I went in with the expectation that I would not like the vehicle because I, like many other RUclips viewers, have viewed reviews that describe issues with body panels and other issues that purchasers had experienced. I am sure I will miss the sound of the twin scroll turbo charged six engine and its exhaust but I feel that I am not given up performance by going to this Tesla 3. If you have not gone to a Tesla store and taken it for a test drive then you can't judge this car. I also feel that I will be doing my duty for the environment by reducing my carbon foot print. I am still a fan of high performance sedanw but I truly believe that now there is an alternative to S4, M3, C63 and others while not forking out part of my monthly paycheck to fill the tank....judge only after you take it out for a test drive and experienced for yourself.

      Yes I believe the Tesla charging stations are more reliable - usually more numerous - deliver faster charging times, usually with less hassle - and also would add that Tesla's software integration, and ease of use - for charging, driving, upgrades, user interface, and their buying and servicing processes are much slicker than the emerging various and varying companies now being forced to come up with EV's... ie the mainstream manufacturers. The better charging system alone would make me look at Tesla, and I would just have to bite my lip about build quality. The only major downside: you have to be rich - Teslas (and a lot of other EV's too) are very expensive. Great review of Model 3 by the way Thomas!

    Got my Model 3 last month - absolutely amazing car. I love plugging it in at home, the quiet, and the head snapping acceleration. Yesterday I had to take my Kia Niro to the dealer for the 15,000 miles service: 45 minutes each way plus a 2 hour wait. Think about that - I will never have to do that for this Tesla - there is no maintenance interval like a 7,500 mile warranty-required service. My spouse says you can't be unhappy while driving a Tesla. Google "the Tesla smile" - it is a thing. NO OTHER car has that.

    One example of their great design. When you fold down the rear seats the latches are in the middle. So when you fold the seats back up the seatbelts never get in the way of the latches. I have found this to making the seats fold up and down much easier than every other car I have owned.
    The extra foot space for the center passenger is also really nice when you only have 4 passengers. It can fit 2 full coats leaving space on the seat for small bags. It is very comfortable with 4 people.

    time to be honest, I love the Tesla's, but I've been driving a BMW 640D Gran Coupe, and I like the driving experience of the Tesla Model X and S, but after driving the Audi E-Tron and the Mercedes EGC, I realized two things.
    1: other companies are years behind Tesla's battery efficiency and range
    2: Tesla's interior build quality leaves a lot to be desired.
    so for me I'm going sit on the sidelines for another year in the hope that Tesla improves it's build quality, and the other companies increase their range from 200 miles to somewhere up to 275-300.

    This is the Volkswagen Beetle of this generation.. sort of looks like one as well but in a pointy kind of way.
    Also gotten use to looking at the car w/out any hood ornaments ( unlike Model S which has a mini wing w/ Tesla emblem )
    Love the aero wheels, gives the car it's true intent of use plus it looks really cool in that dark color combo.
    I can understand the reason behind it's very minimalist dash, but it really needs an HUD at least showing vital info.
    Quality of shutlines seems to be the main complaint I always hear about Tesla.
    Do believe the company's software integration and quick delivery/updates is what makes a Tesla so popular.

      If HUD means a more cluttered dashboard, than no thanks. I have a Model 3 AWD and love the low uncluttered dashboard. No problem for me reading the speed. The car is great. I have owned German cars and I can’t say I miss them. Build quality is more than good enough for me and the car feels solid, no squeaks and rattles. If you don’t need track mode then save some money and get the standard AWD, it is FAST.

    The fit & finish is only a problem to those that look at cars as if they are contenders of a beauty pageant. Yes cars can be considered as pieces of art, but not as their primary goal. The importance of fit & finish should be very low on the priority list since a car is meant first of all to transport people safely, quickly (in comparison to bicycle and on foot) environmentally friendly, comfortably, silently, etc. Critiquing a car so much on its fit & finish is like telling someone who wins every marathon that they could improve on their outfit or pose on pictures... The only reason why people think its important is because the car companies have brainwashed them into believing that the perceived finish of a car is what gives it its quality, even though the mechanical and electrical reliability may be very bad. BMWs are catching fire in the thousands, Audi and many others can't figure out how to make a responsive multimedia system, german cars still not nearly as reliable as Japanese since the 80s/90s and yet you think they are premium because they use soft touch plastics and line up everything perfectly in the interior. Meanwhile they use the cheapest, most brittle plastics under the hood, engineer fatal flaws in on purpose (such as the rod bearings in S85 V10) so that they can squeeze more cash out of people, deck their interiors with cow skin, commit massive fraud and invest heavily into diesel technologies which are even more harmful to us all than the petrol guzzling blocks from the 80s. What the "premium" manufacturers are doing is unethical, greedy and kills millions of people and animals for their own profit. If Germany really cares about the auto industry and their country's environment they would make deals with Tesla to help them get as many gigafactories built asap. The other companies have had enough time, to worry about their profits and heritage is like worrying about Jeff Bezos' pension... They should have done something 7 years ago when the Model S came out. Just my 2 cents. I want a planet where my future children won't die of cancer and/or have brain damage from micro dust particles, the climate is brutal and animals are harmed just for looks. This is 2019, we shouldn't be savages anymore.

    Teslas just wanna keep it together. Skidding and traction loss is not a natural mode for a Tesla. It tries hard to keep economies up front, not offending physics. It is smarter than us!
    There are several firms in the US and Canada marketing full-on track suspension packages as well as individual components. This car can easily be changed to a track slayer, besting top drawer opponents costing three times its price. And this car receives performance improvements over the air.

    Thanks so much for your review! I own a Model S now and have been waiting for the Model 3 to come to Hong Kong. In the meantime, I was considering changing to a petrol but many test drives later with many other car companies just keeps coming up short especially considering the maintenance costs to the dealership to maintain the warranty and petrol. My reason for consideration is based on the cost of ownership. Insurance has tripled and repairs are quite costly. Plus, the government here moved backward on incentives they originally offered, no first registration tax which made the car affordable for me. Now they charge a fee but it puts the Model 3 at a little over half of what I paid for the Model S. I am still under 3 years ownership and warranty and have the guaranteed buy back offer coming shortly. You are so right about the build quality but the performance more than makes up for that shortcoming. And, anything that has gone wrong (12 volt battery replacement, MCU replacement) was covered under warranty. Thanks for helping me make up my mind to stick with Tesla. It really is an awesome ride!

    The Model 3 driving performance is the outcome of very well optimized EV. The new permanent magnet electrical engine, the battery pack, and the Tesla custom made computer chip for the vehicle operation and performance are doing a superb job. That's why people who have driving experience with a Tesla, are saying "that my driving is like driving to the future"... Of course Tesla is lacking on material quality. But if you look at the whole picture, where Tesla was on year 2014 and where is now on year 2019, someone can understand how far ahead is from competition.

    One of my favorite reviewers! Great work. As for the HUD, it seems the model 3 was built from the ground up to be autonomous, so it’s kind of like the steering wheel is just there for the transition period and the center screen is for the two passengers. :) Tesla working toward a million mile drivetrain is incredible! Cars built today could be around well into the self-driving future.
