My great grandfather, David Carter, was posted to Curragh Camp as a Sgt. Tailor in the 16th regt. of foot, later the Bedfordshire Regt. His son, my maternal grandfather, Charles, was born there in 1870. The family was taken to India in 1878. What a grand adventure for a wee lad of 8 years! Grandpa Charlie loved his stay in Curragh and remembered it clearly. He celebrated St. Patrick's day to the end of his life and proudly wore a shamrock on those occasions.

Thank you so much for this...My mother is leaving the Curragh Camp for the last time after 36 years tomorrow and it will be a very sad day for all the family.
