Azzurro, subtitled with the denomination Estate d'Europa , was a musical television program created by Vittorio Salvetti and broadcast from 1982 to 1992 , in its first two editions on Rai 2 and subsequently on Italia 1. It was a singing event that brings luck to the players of the Italian national football team (colloquially known as the Azzurri). The mechanism of event was a team competition of singers and groups who clashed to win the victory. The historical venue of the broadcast was the Petruzzelli Theater in Bari , which hosted the event from 1982 to 1989 with the exception of 1984.
This is 5th edition of Azzurro and there were 6 teams in total. Each team consisted 5 singers or bands. Limahl's team had a name: Gazelles. Team members beside Limahl: team captain / host - Marta Flavi, Joe Cocker, Linda Wesley, Baltimora (band), Katrina and the Waves (band).
The team unfortunately got only 5th place (per 6 teams). However the competition was tight - the Winner (with Tracy Spencer "Run to Me" big hit in 1986 in Italy) got 1085 votes, so it was close (Dolphins won).
Limahl took part in several Italian singing competitions in 1986: Vota La Voce, FestivalBar, Azzurro (in all with same song: Love in Your Eyes).
