This is a wonderful interview! Elm is one of my favorite ECM releases and I was always in awe of "Snow Leopard," but it always felt very out of place on the LP. I am so ecstatic that Richard deeply discussed this topic. Thank you for sharing!

A great interview (or recollection!) and his passion and integrity shines through. One of the very good guys.

I met Beirach one night many years ago while trolling-around the lower West Village in NYC. He invited me up for an impromptu Piano Lesson! - Amazing!, as he is one of my Favorite Pianist, period!...a very odd Dude, though - at least back in 1992!

I studied with Richie back in the late 1970's - early '80s in NYC (as did so many others!) and it's great to hear these stories. It was an amazing scene back then. I hope he's ok.

What a great video, so much livelier than the usual ECM heritage stuff collapsing under the weight of its own poised significance. Nice to hear the gaffer getting dissed a bit instead of unfailingly praised too.

My brother Kevin turned me onto ECM and Sound Suggestions and it was mind blowing Jazz music...Eicher was a genius in those early days of ECM.. I recently heard some current ECM...the magic is gone. .sorry too say...a label needs that driving force to steer the ship....the ship ran aground ..great things come in waves. .

This has got to be one the best interviews I have ever viewed. I just returned from a tour of Russia 🇷🇺 with composer Dennis Rea
Dennis included Richies tune “Riddles” in our set.
I listened to Hubris 100’s of times while recording my first studio LP in Germany 🇩🇪 as a young American musician.
Thank you for your great work ....keep it up !!

Some statements of Richie re Manfred Eicher are very similar to what I've read in Eberhard Weber's Autobiography. If he (Manfred Eicher) doesn't like what you do (in the studio) you're gonna have a problem. Can't be nice all the time. But, as Richie says at the same time, he's a great producer though, if not the greatest with regard to the sound he created.

That's really sad. Good for Richie for sticking to his artistic guns.

Did Richies favorite version of Snow Leopard end on the album or did Manfred reject it?
