Re: Gwyneth - it probably helped that she was so adrift ever since she was moved out of Clay/AE's orbit in early '94. She bartended at Pins, she worked as a mechanic in Trucker's garage (for research), she was in advertising, so, sure, why not have her work for the police? Makes as much sense as any of those other jobs. Re: Tess & Buck - the pairing is so weird because even when they were actually together on Loving, he seemed borderline disinterested in her, but at the same time I don't know what they would have done with him on The City if not pair him with Tess. Granted, it's been ages since I've seen anything but the first few episodes, but my recollection is that he never really had a story until they finally put him with Tess and she was diagnosed with cancer.
