Also mind the lights outside the window and the lyrics "on my lap till morning" means they've been doing it until morning. I cant fully explain but this was my interpretation from the mv. this song and video feel so genuine. idk how else to describe it, it’s really outstanding in the terms of sapphic representation. it’s not intensely passionate but at the same time its not all pure and innocent, the two stereotypes that so many examples of sapphic representation seem to be confined too. it feels like the definition of ‘the female gaze’, if it really exists
As a closeted Asian gay myself, this song has brought me some sense of validation cause LGBTQ+ representation in our media is very rare. I FELT SEEN. Her lyrics are that of a poet. I love how she perfectly captured how delicate and passionate love-making between two women can be without the usual aggressive fetishization we're normally offered.
This is THE BEST. The kind of representation that we NEED. More videos & songs like this please instead of the usual queerbaiting ones (caressing eo, fake kissing, etc for the male/female gaze). This is what happened when artist SINCERELY make music for LGBTQ+ people.
Absolutely beautiful. I hope you can come out to friends and family in your own time, but regardless you'll get to love who you love and that's the best ❤
Reading all the comments of queer girls in Asia feeling validated and represented fills my heart with so much pride and joy! What Byul did here and what Whein did before her with her own music video is really bold considering everything idols have to overcome when it comes to criticism and judgment
This is one poetic + sexy way to tell a passionate love making between two women without using explicit words. The level of the intimacy is so intense yet so gentle with soft voices of 2 women makes you imagine that's you and your lover making love. A pure eargasm imo.
If y'all want a confirmation if it's sapphic here's a few translation from an article on naver: 특히 문별은 직접 작사에 참여해 여성 간 사랑을 섬세하게 그려냈다 Translation: "Moonbyul took part in writing the lyrics of the song and delicately portrayed the love between women"
I was going to say "there's no heterosexual explanation for this", as a joke, but I'm so glad it's actually accurate! Kudos for MoonByul and Seori for creating this masterpiece. I'm sure that some people are going to interpret it as her 'hidden emotions' or "they're just friends" or whatever, but I'm going to take it as it was presented: a proper, wholesome lesbian music video.
There's no way to interpret this as "They're just friends", because Moonbyul herself has confirmed in her talk show that this is a song that depicts a wlw relationship😊
Underrated! Kpop fans really need to start appreciating actual queer songs instead of doing performative activism pretending their fave kpop artists are doing something they are not, Moonbyul is one of the few idols who has been explicit in her lyrics and she deserves more recognition for how brave that was!
I feel like international fans like me who genuinely loved music and vocals appreciate people like Moonbyul, I'm not a real KPOP fan myself today than back then but there few Kpop songs/artists that I liked but none compare to something MMM would offer, something so unique and different than Kpop in my opinion.
The fact that Moonbyul is a rapper who lost her confidence in singing back then and now you can see her comfortably singing low notes or even high notes for her cb's, collabs, or even OST! She definitely has a voice that will surely captivate you and make you fall in love with her deeper than before
this song is by far her best work yet, the production is so solid, the instrumental itself so well made with really sensual vocal chops and hooks, the laid back rhythm, and the lyrics.. THE LYRICS!!!! how do i begin to describe this poetry?? I'm so in love with everything about this song and how she made sure to let everyone know that it is about wlw sex. amazing. i could go on about this forever. I'm literally just waiting for the subs to be up so i can share this with EVERYONE.
@@adupls thank you!! it's hard for me to decipher some slangs sometimes. I love the song very much too, I appreciate Moonbyul a lot for representing our kind of love in such a sweet way ^_^
Fun Fact: On SMN Moonbyul said this version of Shutdown is not "RACY" enough 😳 and guess what there's a another version of it in 19+ and she also said mention that, "these kind of songs....I have more of them". I can't with this woman
So I agree that the lyrics are a bit risqué, but I think that’s what makes SHUTDOWN a statement song. In pop culture, be it western or Korean, LGBT romance is rarely represented. but with this song, and G999 which has the lyrical meaning of being different and from another planet, yet refusing to be called an alien, we see Moonbyul doing what many artists shy away from doing - to represent and normalize homosexuality in her music. This is further amplified by the use of the specific pronouns “SHE SAID” in shutdown. While G999 was an “awakening” song or the first introduction, SHUTDOWN depicts a honey moon phase, and takes a more adult turn with both the lyrics and message. Moonbyul has previously said she doesn’t like using specific pronouns in her songs because she wants to create relatable music. However, the fact that she DOES use pronouns in SHUTDOWN, and actually uses them to represent a lesbian relationship, is SO POWERFUL. There is clear sapphic poetry in those lyrics. You can clearly read them like a poem. And like you said, the accompanying video could have been equally sexual, however Moonbyul uses a normal and warm setting of a home. This NORMALIZES homosexual relationships, sending the message that same sex couples and “sex” in general need to be normalized in the conservative cultures of developing countries. Especially considering how gay marriages are still not legal in South Korea. NEVERTHELESS, I highly think that we shouldn’t use this song and it’s message to ask Moonbyul intrusive questions about her own sexuality or ASSUME anything. She can be whoever she wants and she doesn’t need to tell us. And we certainly shouldn’t assume that just because she wrote this song, it automatically makes her a lesbian herself. Like heterosexuality shouldn’t be forced on an idol, I think homosexuality should also not be assumed. However what we CAN take as a message is simply that Byul cares. She CARES enough to make a song and represent a minority group. She CARES enough to make the stand despite any consequences. She simply CARES. I think this song needs to be hyped about even more. It’s one of the most beautiful songs I’ve ever heard, and that’s saying something ❤️✨
I hope Moonbyul knows how much of a safe space she is for members of the LGBTQ community and sapphics especially. I love how this song normalizes sapphic sex and presents it in the most beautiful, intimate way. The climax of the song when Moonbyul is singing the chorus and Seori is doing her adlibs is absolute bliss and such an eargasm. This song is phenomenal vocally and the lyrics are pure poetry. I cannot wait for 6equence tomorrow!
@@krack-a-lacker i agree that we shouldn't put anyone on a pedestal. However, just because we're praising her for this doesn't mean we are automatically doing that. It's just admiration for her bravery, plain and simple. Also I don't think we have anything to be afraid of being disappointed in moonbyul (at least on this aspect in particular) as what she did here isn't just a one-time thing, she has consistently shown her support for the LGBTQ+ community over the years, e.g. writing a letter to fans on fancafe on three consecutive international coming out days, deliberately not writing pronouns into her lyrics, and openly showing admiration fir rainbow moomoos (the lgbtq+ faction of our fandom)
I couldn’t have said it better , trying not to be so dramatic , it's like they know all of us and at the same time they don't, whenever I listen to their songs I feel warmed and relaxed at the same time, they are wonderful , 😊
Just my personal opinion....I super love MAMAMOO but when it comes to solo projects I love MOONBYUL's comebacks/projects the most. @@gamayun0991 I think Solar has the most sales. Also fandom may be small but not nearly half the fans listen to Moonbyul's music. Also album sales are split with the company. Streams are what really help artists because they make money from each stream and it adds up fast the more streams they get. This is why Hwasa is the richest member. Wheein also does very well on Korean streaming charts and Solar's OSTs have been doing well too
This is such an important song. Moonbyul never uses pronouns on her songs, but she specifically specified "she" for this one, leaving no doubt on what this song is about. Korean media can't deny it. A s ding like this on such a homophobic country is huge. Please keep stre am ing and give this sing a lot of love.

This is the perfect blend of soft and gentle, yet intense and passionate. Seori's vocalisations in the last chorus though. I've heard this song a lot, but they keep sounding more impressive each time
I love everything about this song. The melody, the lyrics and the concept. I relate because well I’m a girl and I have a girlfriend 😂🌈. Byul never disappoints!
This is a song that would make Sappho proud. Poetic, sensual, tender, unapologetically sapphic lyrics with wonderful musical accompaniment, it's just beautiful. Bravo Moonbyul, bravo Seori!
I'm so damn proud of Byul and so excited for the release of this album. She's put her everything into this, even promoting it as much as she can which shouldn't even be her job... Let's do our best to support her and make this comeback a success!!! Also, the fact that they're singing to each other, like it's clearly a sapphic MV like there's no way around that... I'm just... Wow. Lemme just go look up the lyrics and freak out over that too, lmao.
Moonbyul’s voice is so calming when singing it gives totally different vibes when she’s rapping! She’s the main rapper but can easily become the main vocalist! She’s a multitalented handsome Queen And Seori’s voice is so beautiful and smoothing! This is the best collab ever!
This needs more views, it's literally beautiful. The lyrics are about two women intimately loving each other. The song has no tint of sexualization of wlw unlike other songs, it's pure love. TT
I really don't know how she's gonna top this masterpiece, like what can she possibly even do with the title track like she did everything here, her singing voice, rapping voice, lyrics, melodies, etc. EVERYTHING is immaculate
Came back here to say this song is a milestone in queer representation and I am so proud of Moonbyul for her growth as an artist. We desperately need musicians like her and Seori to make queer life visible and less intimidating. I hope in ten years time, life will be easier for LGBTQ+ people around the world and we will look back on this song fondly. I hope releasing music like this won't need to be an act of bravery anymore
Queer is a slur. Not every gay reclaimed it. Stop using it. It harms older gays who was traumatized by that word, but go ahead if you want to use it. You're basically just spitting in the face of the people who paved the way for us.
@@alvinsmith3894 it’s always the straight-with-extra-steps that Label themselves that, too. Anyway, people can call me queer, but only as an insult. People should be free to insult each other after all.

This is the song where we don't need two intimate women just to fit the lyrics, the stares and how they deliver the song is enough to make us feel their love. 🏳️🌈💯
as an asian queer individual myself, this mv brought me tears. Its quite rare to see our representation in asian media, and it made me more than happy to know my fav got our back, that she sees us (and possibly is a part of the community)
What I love the most is their positive portrayal of lesbian relationships 😊 so many songs/series/films make it such a negative experience so it's nice to just see a depiction of two people loving each other. We need more songs like this in K-Pop
moonbyul & seori’s voice goes so well together. i feel there’s another meaning behind the video (since the time i commented this there’s no subtitles yet lol) i hope they both collab again in the future :)
Look up the lyrics and translate some lines, thats what I did. From what I saw this is a very romantic song and the use of female pronouns are uh- suggestive😳

Moomoos i request you all to do some research on the song ,as you will discover some hidden meanings behind those lyrics... I am so proud and feel so lucky to be a moomoo .
The intimacy depicted in her lyrics is explicitly suggestive yet warm and sincere. I love how their voices complemented each other and just the overall artistry behind this song is amazing + the genuine sapphic representation here, ahhh my heart is full.
Just something about her voice that is so expressive regardless whether she is singing, rapping or talking. A whole song of Moonbyul's vocals and rap is just precious. Adding in Seori's vocals is just wow! Their vocals blend so well together. What a collab! ❤❤❤

My country is shit too and it's Asia country
As a closetted asian lesbian, same and i'm tired of that fetishization
Reading all the comments of queer girls in Asia feeling validated and represented fills my heart with so much pride and joy! What Byul did here and what Whein did before her with her own music video is really bold considering everything idols have to overcome when it comes to criticism and judgment
Also, the song is aesome and the lyrics are just pure gold
it's just a reminder of how awesome our queens are!
yes!
I'm just like you, an Asian Sapphic
What wheein did?
Byul’s vocals are so good on this. And her switch to the deep rapping is…ugh. And Seori’s “slow down, down, down” - chef’s kiss.
This is one poetic + sexy way to tell a passionate love making between two women without using explicit words. The level of the intimacy is so intense yet so gentle with soft voices of 2 women makes you imagine that's you and your lover making love. A pure eargasm imo.
The Seori expressions when she sings are insanely beautiful
Yes
If y'all want a confirmation if it's sapphic here's a few translation from an article on naver:
특히 문별은 직접 작사에 참여해 여성 간 사랑을 섬세하게 그려냈다
Translation:
"Moonbyul took part in writing the lyrics of the song and delicately portrayed the love between women"
😊

THIS 👏👏
I feel like international fans like me who genuinely loved music and vocals appreciate people like Moonbyul, I'm not a real KPOP fan myself today than back then but there few Kpop songs/artists that I liked but none compare to something MMM would offer, something so unique and different than Kpop in my opinion.
Could you give some recommendations of other queer korean bands/artists?
The way Seori sings “Shut down”...
And Moonbyul’s voice really suit this song, the rap part is 🔥
Strong agree!!
for real her voice really adds something special to the already lovely voice of our Moonstar
The fact that Moonbyul is a rapper who lost her confidence in singing back then and now you can see her comfortably singing low notes or even high notes for her cb's, collabs, or even OST! She definitely has a voice that will surely captivate you and make you fall in love with her deeper than before
frfr!
this song is by far her best work yet, the production is so solid, the instrumental itself so well made with really sensual vocal chops and hooks, the laid back rhythm, and the lyrics.. THE LYRICS!!!! how do i begin to describe this poetry?? I'm so in love with everything about this song and how she made sure to let everyone know that it is about wlw sex. amazing. i could go on about this forever. Fun Fact: On SMN Moonbyul said this version of Shutdown is not "RACY" enough 😳 and guess what there's a another version of it in 19+ and she also said mention that, "these kind of songs....I have more of them". I can't with this woman
Her duality make fans crazy.

@@shany0608 I will faint with that song
Well said, agree with everything you said👍🏼
Up this is so so important!! ♡
Really well said ❤👏
all of thiss
SO WELL SAID
I hope Moonbyul knows how much of a safe space she is for members of the LGBTQ community and sapphics especially.

[Verse 1: Moon Byul]
Set fire on my cold heart
It's okay if you break through me
Hug me in the dark night
More to your rhythm
Whisper to me when you close your eyes
Melt me in your short breath
I want to untie my tightly closed knot
Give it to me
This night is short
Oh, no worries
[Pre-Chorus: Moon Byul]
She said, you can ruin me
She said, tonight um, ah
[Chorus: Seori]
From head to toe
From head to toe
Hold my waist and stop there
Touch down, touch down
From head to toe
From head to toe
From your knees to the morning
Shutdown, shutdown
[Verse 2: Moon Byul]
Row a boat
Inside you, I'm an experienced boatman (Boatman)
If the water gets a bit stronger
It's going to get rough. (To get)
Passing through that mountain and crossing the bridge
I'll build a house that's like a painting
I'll draw you like Dali Van Picasso
A silhouette of a masterpiece
Our painting is ripening red
[Pre-Chorus: Moon Byul]
She said, you can ruin me (Yeah-eh, yeah)
She said, tonight um, ah
[Chorus: Seori]
From head to toe
From head to toe
Hold my waist and stop there
Touch down, touch down
From head to toe
From head to toe
From your knees to the morning
Shutdown, shutdown
[Bridge: Moon Byul, Seori]
Hug me without a break
Fill we meet, love it
Our relationship is getting hotter
Without a break, I'm
You and me tonight
Tell me, be the sea
I keep swimming deep every day baby (Baby, baby)
Baby, baby slow down, down, down
[Chorus: Moonbyul, Seori]
From head to toe (Huh, ah-ah)
From head to toe (La-la-la-la)
Hold my waist and stop there (Ooh-oh-ooh-ah)
Touch down, touch down
From head to toe (Oh, oh)
From head to toe (Ah-ah-ooh, yeah)
